... to be tired of the Goady Fuckers?

MmeLindor · 31/01/2013 10:00

Is it just me or has there been an increase in goady thread derailing in the last couple of weeks? It seems even the most innocuous of threads are being deliberately diverted by posters who only post offensive or ridiculous comments then refuse to back down.

Here's what I use MN for:

Fun
Support
Advice
Chat
Activism and feminism
Bloggers chat
Politics

Not to have arguments with Goady Fuckers who are sitting at home delighted to have got us all off topic.

A lot of threads I've been on in the past few days have been taken completely off topic or detailed. Have we been invaded MNHQ or is it the work of a couple of fuckwits individuals?

Who wants to join me in an Anti Goady Fucker Campaign?

I vote that when someone tries to derail a thread that we all ignore and do a mass report to MNHQ. They are fed up hearing from me in the past weeks.

ah yes, yesterdays thread certainly opened my eyes a bit. If the poster who named me would like to PM me to discuss how I have upset her so much, she is welcome to, but I was very upset about it. and tbh, it doesnt help to know that it was a goady fucker who started the thread, its not nice to be called a bully, if not directly, especially when the accusation is unfounded.

Aww Trampy.
I m sorry you are upset.
It is easy for people just to throw accusations out. It doesn't mean that there is an ounce of truth or that anyone else agrees.

To be honest some people are such shitheads I would be upset if they thought I was great.

TrampyPants · 01/02/2013 11:24

I was heartened by the amount of people who told her to cop on to herself, tbh.

normally I think to myself "what would do?" then do the opposite. but Ive been on MN a long time and spent much of it on TTC, MC and IF boards, I'd hate to have all that wiped out because someone has taken a dislike to me because I disagree with her.

manicbmc · 01/02/2013 11:28

Can't believe I missed a knicker troll. Grin

Can you lot stop being so engaging and entertaining for 5 minutes, please? I have a cake burning baking and it requires attention.

Pagwatch · 01/02/2013 11:30

Nah, it doesn't work like that. Smile

People note kindness and support more than they note negative stuff.

If you ask me to name posters that have been kind or supportive to me I could give you a list. Ask me to name people I have argued with and I can't really recall.
I could name a few posters that annoy me but thats just the way we all are.

No one is going to think 'ooh random grudgy poster named Trampy. She must be a cow'
People are more sensible than that.

IamtheZombie · 01/02/2013 11:31

Trampy, please don't waste any energy being upset by that particular poster. She's not worth it.

You, on the other hand, are a jewel.

MmeLindor · 01/02/2013 11:33

Pagwatch is right. I could list LOADS of really lovely posters, who have given me great advice and support over the years. I can hardly remember the names of the ones I was arguing with yesterday (and most of that was perfectly civil)

Trampy - you are a fab poster and worth a million times more than the GF who was so objectionable last night

thanks all There does seem to be an increase in GF's over outright trolls. its as if trolls have caught onto themselves and changed tactic. often staying just inside the guidelines.

well done all you dryers.

MmeLindor · 04/02/2013 10:13

Right. Just bumping this to stress that when I talked about the Goady Fuckers, I was not talking about someone who disagrees with another poster on a thread, even if they do so vehemently.

A Goady Fucker

  • is a troll
  • is a namechanger who NChed to troll the thread
  • is not interested in the actual topic of the thread
  • posts to derail the thread, to prevent discussion of the topic

It has come to my attention that some are using the term GF when another poster disagrees with them. This is not what I meant.

GF are particularly present on FWR board, where they seek to divert interesting discussions about feminism with ridiculous / offensive comments.

We need to be able to have a discussion, even a heated one, without posters being accused of being GFs (as long as we all stay within the guidelines).

LtEveDallas · 04/02/2013 10:20

Good morning MmeL. Would you add to that list someone who is unecessarily aggressive/argumentative, or posts seemingly innocent, but passive agressive comments?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/02/2013 10:24

The derailing part is something seeing more and more, and that combined with being intensely aggressive is a fucking shocker Angry You think what is the matter with folk?! I stay in woolly matters maybe.

MmeLindor · 04/02/2013 10:26

Morning LtEve

No, I wouldn't - some people are argumentative, and some are passive aggressive. If that is their posting style, then I would not say that they are GFs.

The intent is the issue - are they posting against another poster because they disagree with them, or are they posting to derail the thread.

The act of 'goading' is a separate thing - when posters goad others to be offensive and aggressive in the hope that they get deleted or banned. This can be done by 'regular' posters, and is sometimes confused with heated disagreement.

I think if you disagree with someone and argue with them, you have to accept that you will not agree in the end. Just because they defend their opinion does not make them a GF

I have just lurked on a thread in aibu (since deleted) which was spawning a row about certain aibu regulars who aggressively and/or obtusely give their opinion on many threads. I wonder if that could be a form of goading.

I certainly am going to report more - I usually ignore twat posts, but perhaps that is not the way to go.

Sad.

GetOrf · 04/02/2013 10:32

x posts with mmel.

LtEveDallas · 04/02/2013 10:34

Ahh, a differentiation (ate a dictionary this morning!) between being goading and being a Goady Fucker. I think I get that.

See, in that case, the recently deleted thread had 3 or 4 Goady Fuckers on it (no posting history and posting inflammatory and agressive posts against one particular poster) and 2 posters that were Goading (posting history but posted directly agressive posts and a passive agressive "My how the mighty have fallen this week")

Would that make sense?
