... to be tired of the Goady Fuckers?

MmeLindor · 31/01/2013 10:00

Is it just me or has there been an increase in goady thread derailing in the last couple of weeks? It seems even the most innocuous of threads are being deliberately diverted by posters who only post offensive or ridiculous comments then refuse to back down.

Here's what I use MN for:

Fun
Support
Advice
Chat
Activism and feminism
Bloggers chat
Politics

Not to have arguments with Goady Fuckers who are sitting at home delighted to have got us all off topic.

A lot of threads I've been on in the past few days have been taken completely off topic or detailed. Have we been invaded MNHQ or is it the work of a couple of fuckwits individuals?

Who wants to join me in an Anti Goady Fucker Campaign?

I vote that when someone tries to derail a thread that we all ignore and do a mass report to MNHQ. They are fed up hearing from me in the past weeks.

Right then, thanks for raising this MmeLindor

To all of you

Any fucker poster you think might be goading?
Please please please report to us.

It takes about 1.5 secs to report a thread.

It makes not a jot of difference who reports (i.e. we don't get sick of folk reporting) but please do it.

We may not get back to you straight away and obviously goading may take a bit longer to look into as opposed to whether a post contains a personal attack but if we don't know about it we certainly can't do anything to stop it.

You don't need to type an essay in the comments box - we don't mind acronyms or just "hmm" or "goading?" or "Wtf?!"

Or you can tell us a joke in the comments box if you like.

Hope this helps.
Thanks as ever
Peace and Love
OliviaMN

@MmeLindor

Sorry for adding to your workload, Olivia.

I think tell a joke reports is a great idea. I will get DS to help me. Sure MNHQ would love his poo-willy-bum jokes.

Oh god.
Can open. Worms Everywhere.

Morning.

Just wanted to add a couple of thing to OliviaMN's sterling post earlier in this thread...

The beginning of the year is, in our experience, a time when Mumsnet gets lots of new members - hurrah for that!

The vast, vast majority of them are utterly nice and normal, and here to join the debate/have a good chinwag/share and support. And we'd hope folks would clasp them all warmly to the collective Mumsnet bosom.

Unfortunately, some of the newbies - and we're talking a mere handful here, not dozens and dozens - do come with less, erm, community-minded intentions. Specifically, to goad, cause trouble, spin ludicrous trolly tales or, as last night, offer to buy our used knickers

They're usually relatively easy to spot and, once we're made aware of them at MNHQ, we do despatch them to the Land of the Banned PDQ.

However, there are other apparently goady posters who aren't so easy to fathom out. They may not be new, for example, and they may have posted quite reasonably before.

In these cases, our policy is (generally) to keep an eye on their further posts - and maybe drop them a 'head tilt'-type mail from HQ. If they really are out to goad - and not just having an unfortunately feisty day - it soon become very apparent.

We appreciate that this waiting-out approach may be frustrating but we do think it's fairest, all things considered.

But where you can all really help is by reporting all goadiness or apparent goadiness to us. It's tremendously helpful, really it is. Even if we don't take action immediately (or don't appear to Wink), the reports help us build up a Picture of Goadiness. And next time that same poster is reported for goading, we have "history" to work with, iyswim.

So, please please report. We do reply to every mail (although there's sometimes a delay when the gin runs out).

And please don't let the goady few spoil the general all-round fabness of Mumsnet for you - or anybody else.

Remember, nothing will spoil a goader's day more than a tumbleweed response to their attempts to make you all fight...

HelenMumsnet · 01/02/2013 10:23

@MmeLindor

I missed the chance to sell my used knickers?

Well. Damn.

Shall we forward you his details?

HelenMumsnet · 01/02/2013 10:36

@HesterBurnitall

It's interesting you say a handful, Helen. Over the years I've become convinced that most trolling is down to just a few trolls, it's just that they put a lot of effort into doing it. As in the real world, the majority of posters are good folk and pretty much how they appear to be online.

Indeed.
