to think DD is too young for Teen posters

So DH got DS got his Beano comic the other day and DD (7) got 'Go Girl' (she liked the look of the tat free gift which was a notebook/stickers and whatnot). It also seemed to be fairly innocuous - some younger stuff - kittens and ponies and a bit of older stuff - fashion and pop stars.

Now she wants to put the poster up on her wall - One Direction. She vaguely knows who they are but it just feels a bit 'old' for me.

DH says it's harmless and I am not sure why I feel so strongly that i don't want her to - I am not usually uptight at all.

So I have told DH and DD that I will put it to the Mumsnet Jury

I think my dd was 8 when she first had one direction on her wall, she is nearly 10 now and one direction posters have started to take over her room, I think they are pretty harmless but I am probably in the minority!

I agree with your DH, it seems pretty harmless to me, I'm sure I had pictures of Jason Donovan (showing my age there ) on the wall at that age.

My friends dd has a One Direction duvet cover. She got it for her 8th birthday.

I think its ok, my dd has had JLS posters up since she was 8.

Mine are both cute fluffy animal girls rather than teen idols. One of their friends did have a few posters up at one point, but everyone else laughed at her so she took them down again.

One Direction is fairly innocuous. I'd worry if it was Rihanna.

No. She is too young. Mine is nine in two weeks and has a Sylvannian Families poster on her wall she is very immature though

I don't see a problem, it's not playboy or anything though some of their lyrics are a little close to the line for me

I think its fine. I can't abide them but DD2 is 6 and has various posters up.

As irritating and seemingly all powerful as they are, I doubt they will be able to corrupt her through a photo on her wall.

I can't see a problem, ds2 is 9 and not interested in posters on walls. He has a pretty big collection of CDs though and has for the last few years.

My 7 year old has a three One Direction posters up on her wall and she shares with her 5 year old sister. They are a band or a group as they don't play any instruments as my husband is at pains to point out (he doesn't count Nialls guitar strumming)

I would rather my dds listening to music and made up dances, played around etc than not. My dds love music, so did I when I was young and unfortunately was at the mercy of my Mums taste! Posters are just an extension of that.

My dd almost 7 has 1D posters up, meh I don't see the problem she also has muppets up. What is the problem for you I don't understand how is she to young, to young for what?

OP I think like you...it's indicative of a shift in children towards things that are for older girls.

Tell her she can't as it will ruin the paintwork.

You can't really control whether a child will have a crush or not. I remember being 7 and having a crush on the boy who lived down the road because he did really good wheelies on his BMX. It didn't take anything away from my innocence.

No. She's too young. Would you want you DS to have posters of girls in his room? Or would it seem weird because he's a young boy who should be looking at The Beano? That question's to your DH by the way because I know what your answer is :D.
