I have had enough of Phillip sodding Schofield and his apologist attitude towards Jimmy Savile

Angry

Last week, it was saying how sorry he felt for JS's family to the VICTIMS of JS fgs, basically saying that he knew the layout of the dressing rooms at the BBC and he can't imagine that happening and no-one seeing and now, just, he said "But that's what television and radio was like in those days"

Errr, no Phil. Rape/molestation has ALWAYS been wrong, you daft twat. Yes, they were sexist times but there is a world of difference between sexual assaults on underage girls and sexist banter/inequality in the workplace.

And you have young daughters IIRC, Phillip. Shame on you.

Coleen Nolan won't critise the Pip, she will want to keep her slot on TM.

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 13:37

She's left TM, hasn't she?

To the person who said they can only think of one children's tv presenter who has died - i can think of another one.

PS was neverr a good presenter anyway, Gordon the Gopher was far more entertaining

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 13:39

I don't think some people realise that in the late 60's and into the 70's DJs were the next best thing to a rock star. People on tv and radio had a lot of power and clout. It's not like nowadays where anyone can become a celebrity for doing fuck all.

Someone like Esther or Paul G would have got nowhere trying to do something about it. Esther because she's a woman and very likely Paul G bcause he's gay, IYSWIM.

THERhubarb · 08/10/2012 13:40

Freudian, how do you know Roman Polanski abused young girls before his marriage? Is there concrete evidence?

Yes Polanski had a shit childhood, just read his wiki entry Shock
But then we all know that some abusers of children were themselves abused as children. It doesn't defend their actions. The choices you make as an adult are free choices made with adult minds and adult reasoning and you should be held to account for those choices.

I've found this thread very educational (had been totally unaware of the Scofield comments before I read it ]SadAngry) but please.

The latter part of this thread is just becoming a witch-hunt. FFS. This is no different to troll-hunting, and could get MN into far greater trouble. Please please stop wracking your minds for 'dead children's presenters' and then offering them up for consideration. It's a stupid thing to do and based on nothing more than heresay. Jimmy Saville - well yes, the accusations are now out there and it's all pretty horrible. Sad NOBODY else has had similar allegations made against them AFAIK. To bring random BBC presenters into this discussion is just pointless at this stage, and a pretty crap thing to do.

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 13:44

Reading my post back I meant that people who are of a younger age than me might not understand the power of djs/tv personalities in those days. I wasn't making excuses for them.

MaryZed · 08/10/2012 13:50

I know what you meant cocole.

It was a bit like our mothers' generation being brought up to believe that the word of a doctor/lawyer was like the word of God - to be believed and obeyed always.

Back then (not an excuse), JS would have been on a par with the pope - infallable.

Thankfully things are changing, in the Catholic Church, in the BBC and hopefully in society. Sadly, too late for many victims.

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 13:53

Yes, thanks mary.

THERhubarb · 08/10/2012 13:54

Reshape, there are only a couple of posters doing that and to be fair, no-one is paying them much attention.

Gary Glitter and Freddie Starr's names are already out there so there's no legal issues surrounding that apart from to say that Starr denies all allegations against him and Glitter, well he's already a convicted paedophile.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 08/10/2012 14:00

concrete evidence Hmm young girls were shared about directors/casting agents in hollywood he has always been open about his love of young girls

if he had not made such good films and if he was not such a good director he would not get the support he does. so for many his excuse is that he is genius who is troubled Hmm

ReshapeWhileDamp · 08/10/2012 14:02

Yes, I know, Rhubarb. Smile Still a daft thing to do IMO.

THERhubarb · 08/10/2012 14:05

Sorry Freudian, I don't mean to be obtuse and I'm certainly not defending him as you can see from my earlier posts. But I can't find anything that accuses him of these crimes before his marriage to Tate.

He may well have been guilty of this and let's face it, whatever he did before his marriage he's certainly guilty of underage sex and abuse now so it's probably irrelevant. I was just under the impression that his leaning towards young girls was after the murder of his wife. I didn't realise he was always like that.

Not that it matters so perhaps this is a conversation best left.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 08/10/2012 14:08

Reshape I mentioned the initials of the now deceased children's tv presenter, but I did say I wasn't suggesting it was him. It was just he was the only one I could think of. If it was him, I'd be surprised; I have heard rumours about him being difficult to work with, but nothing of this nature.

However, I think it's natural that people would want to know who the actual person was - not least because, as we've seen with JS, lots of his victims have only come out when this became public. This other man may have abused many children who so far have been to afraid to come forward.

MrsjREwing · 08/10/2012 14:09

I remember the "casuality" episode Kate Winslet did, she played a gf who was unaware her bf turned out to be a peado to his little sister, Kates character took to A&E.

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 14:18

I was horrified by the open letter supporting Roman Ploanski.

One of the signers was Woody Allen Hmm

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 08/10/2012 14:45

What shirl bups and rhubarb have said with fucking knobs on.

Bloody 'Pip' Schofield. I am stagerred at his lack of empathy. he should be bloody ashamed of himself.

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 14:48

He isn't though. Anyone pulling him up on it on Twatter has been deleted. Twat.

OP posts:
MaryZed · 08/10/2012 14:49

Yeah, Woody Allen Hmm

His behaviour with his daughter was unforgivable on so many levels.

THERhubarb · 08/10/2012 14:50

Not so on Facebook bupcakes, on the This Morning page which is presumably maintained by the team.
