I have had enough of Phillip sodding Schofield and his apologist attitude towards Jimmy Savile

Angry

Last week, it was saying how sorry he felt for JS's family to the VICTIMS of JS fgs, basically saying that he knew the layout of the dressing rooms at the BBC and he can't imagine that happening and no-one seeing and now, just, he said "But that's what television and radio was like in those days"

Errr, no Phil. Rape/molestation has ALWAYS been wrong, you daft twat. Yes, they were sexist times but there is a world of difference between sexual assaults on underage girls and sexist banter/inequality in the workplace.

And you have young daughters IIRC, Phillip. Shame on you.

Sympathy isn't a finite resourse.

I feel sorry for Mark Bridger's family. However I wouldn't say that to April Jone's parents.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 08/10/2012 11:14

i agree if all these victims were young boys we would not be hearing well that what it was like then, dirty old men could get away with it crap. because they could not so openly get away with it becasue the abuse of boys/young men has always been seen as that abuse of girls/young women it was excused

we only have to see how the public responded to Megan Stammer's and her teacher, if she were a boy there would be an outcry as she is a girl well some girls are very manipulative, they are in love, silly man tempted by a liolita crap that i read over and over again and sadly on here too

that is not to say abuse of boys was always dealth with we just regognised that it was abuse not something some silly dirty men do and its just the way it is

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 08/10/2012 11:14

Exactly Viva.

squoosh · 08/10/2012 11:15

Will such a day ever come????

MaryZed · 08/10/2012 11:16

I would feel sorry for the families of all rapists and murderers, and indeed all criminals when they aren't involved in or supportive of the criminal behaviour.

Feeling sorry for them doesn't mean I don't feel very sorry for (and angry about) the victims of rape/murder etc.

THERhubarb · 08/10/2012 11:16

His family have leapt to his defence, however abuse on that scale does not go unnoticed. His family may have known something, perhaps he did even abuse members of his own extended family? But it's been hushed up as much as the BBC have covered up the scale and extent of his abuse.

I am actually heartened by some brave journalists who have come forward to say that they knew of the rumours but did nothing and now bitterly regret it. They too have talked of the culture at the time, of how people just laughed it off but they do not offer this up as an excuse of their own refusal to act.

They now have to live with the knowledge that they may have been able to prevent further abuse and therefore further victims. But at least they have been brave enough to admit their failings and accept responsibility.

I wonder why Schofield is so protective of JS? Could he have things on his mind? After all, he worked at the BBC too. Perhaps his own conscience is pricking him?

squoosh · 08/10/2012 11:17

Exactly Viva. I feel sympathy for Mark Badger's family, must be horrific for them at the moment. But as you say, I would not say such a thing to the mother of the child he allegedly abducted and murdered. That would be an act of staggering insensitivity.

perfumedlife · 08/10/2012 11:18

That you would think it hard for the siblings/parents of abusers goes without saying, or should. Why state it, in the face of these awful allegations, and as PS said, Saville can't answer/be charged so there isn't even conclusive proof that the families deserve sympathy. He can't have it both ways.

flyoverthegoldenhill · 08/10/2012 11:18

squoosh here ....I'll lend you my remote. No Pip on my telly. Its great !

Well he's not on my tv screen either if I can help it, but sometimes I'm idly flicking between channels and he's bloody there looking oh so pleased with himself. I shriek, leap to my feet and run from the room.

MrsHardigan · 08/10/2012 11:20

I think if he spent the whole of the bloody interview discussing how awful it must be, then, yeah, that'd be insensitive and out of order. I don't think mentioning it in passing is going to cause lasting discomfort and emotional trauma and for all everyone having a bitch-fit at me knows, the victims might feel the exact same way!

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 11:20

"I wonder why Schofield is so protective of JS? Could he have things on his mind? After all, he worked at the BBC too. Perhaps his own conscience is pricking him?"

I too have wondered this.

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 11:21

No, he spent the whole interview asking why they didn't report it before now and other such bollocks.

The only one that handled it with any degree of sympathy was Holly.

ShirleyRots · 08/10/2012 11:22

A bitch fit? Hmm

I'm just disagreeing with you, sorry about that presh.

squoosh · 08/10/2012 11:23

Very odd if that is his only preoccupation. Very odd.

MrsjREwing · 08/10/2012 11:24

Holly was lovely.

PS took over, I thought the same, something going on for the fence sitter over this issue.

Another one who gets on my goat is Mathew Wright. The other day he was banging on about it being wrong to allow trial by television and these women were making allegations on TV and not through the proper channels.

Wasn't it he who dropped John Lesley's name right in to the public from his show? Confused

ProbablyDoingTheWrongThing · 08/10/2012 11:26

I can feel sympathy for the families.......my brother and sister went through utter hell when their stepfather was in the local paper for sexually assaulting another young boy, sadly the people who gave them stick ( teachers, children and parents in a secondary school ) didn't realise that they too were being / had been abused and were lying awake at night not only with the taunts going through their head but too scared to go to sleep for fear of what they would wake up to.

A few years later it was the turn of me and my sister to be abused, we haven't spoken out ( yet ) but 25 years on we're seeking help to move forward. I'm also the family member of an abuser tho ( it was my father who abused my brother and sister ) do I not deserve sympathy ? I've had to carry that stigma my entire life, everyone in our small town knew about it......in fact when my brother and sis took it to court a few years the local rag published the address he was living at at the time ( my mums house ) despite him not living there for over 20 years Confused So we suffered again.

So I can feel sympathy towards the innocent family of any abuser, for all we know he could also have abused family members who haven't come forward yet.

However, Phillip Schofield saying that in front of his victims is fucking appaling, the only people they should be thinking of right now is themselves.

These people PS and MW seen to want to focus on BBC, what about hospitals, childrens homes, schools that it went on in?

Sparklingbrook · 08/10/2012 11:27

Janet Ellis was on TWS this morning and they asked her if she was aware of anything re all this when she worked at the BBC. She said it was before her time so no. She is 57, PS is 50 so I can't imagine he would have known anything.

ScarahStratton · 08/10/2012 11:27

PS is a twat, never seen the attraction of him.
