Just to say, do we all remember ourselves at 15?
I was getting into pubs at that age until Marion's mum read her diary and got us hauled out by the police.
But apart from that, I thought I was so grown up.
And then a few years later I realised how young I was.
But I imagine if I'd had a cool musician teacher who showed an interest in me I'd have been beyond flattered, it's such a vulnerable age.
This is a bloke that has been married a year and left his wife for this kid.
A 30 year old teacher who takes advantage of a teenage crush is not a paedophile.
But he is just as bad.

well yes there was an eventual outcome, but rather like Megan's case the details were not revealed due to his age. He was from Holland, was a pretty vulnerable wit ha very fractured family background, and told a friend he was running away but friend did nothing to identify him.

I know he is not a paedophile, what he has done is all kinds of wrong, wrong on every level, not arguing about that whatsoever.

However, there was a gang of eight men sentenced in Derby yesterday for having sex with girls aged 13-15. They were labelled as paedophiles on the local news and in the Daily Mail (I know I shouldn't look was looking at the celeb bit). Are they really paedophiles, or are they sex offenders as the girls may have gone through puberty?

No they are probably not paedophiles but the papers tend to play fast and loose with the accuracy of their reporting. They are certainly predatory much in the same way someone who targeted vulnerable adults perhaps with SN would be, but likely not paedophiles.

Does depend a little on profile of victims though as some 13 year olds may be prepubescent. Though that would be unusual these days.

Just to clarify a few points that I have seen on here:

He is not a paedophile.

He has no children.

He had only worked at the school for 3 years (at most) and had not lived in the are before that.

His record at his previous school was excellent.

None of the above is condoning his actions. He is at best selfish, stupid and self destructive and at worst predatory, callous and abusive.

What I do find shocking having followed the case closely (for obvious reasons) is how many people have referred to similar cases amongst friends and colleagues in posts/forum discussions. It seems it is a massive widespread problem.

German forest boy has apparently done a bunk again. Germany presented him with a 20k bill for hospitality. He rang his step mum up in holland and said he was coming home, left Germany and hasn't been seen since.

I accept everything you say except 'He is not a paedophile'. You do not know this just as much as we don't. However his actions lead me to believe different.

In the eyes of the law, if he has sex with her, he is a sex offender and will have to go onto the sex offender's register. They may be convinced they are in love but, seriously, if they had any sense at all they would have waited until she was past the age of consent.
Looks like he was under investigation and about to lose his job so maybe that's why they ran away? Whatever, his previous good character means nothing if he can't take his duty of care towards his pupils seriously.

And when I think back to being 15 I definitely wasn't thinking about having a relationship with anyone, let alone someone twice my age. I didn't think I was sophisticated either. Not every teenage girl is like that.

Ohnomyfoot- do you not assume that everyone is not a paedophile unless there is evidence to the contrary? Or is it that you dont understand what a paedophile is? Or even more scarily is your default setting that all men ate paedophiles unless you have evidence to the contrary!
