What on earth went through his head when he decided to do this?! The poor woman has taken all her social networks down out of humiliation I presume. link

Crazy.

This story was never going to be two inches in the local press.

edam · 27/09/2012 14:44

She was 14 when the relationship started earlier this year. 14!

It's not about going 'willingly', it's about a teacher abusing his position of trust - something that is a specific offence when the target is a pupil under 18, I believe.

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/09/2012 14:45

I loved the Harry Potter books.
Ds gave me all the films for ChristmasGrin.
I also have a lot of time for JK.
She is a very wealthy woman, who still manages to live her life quietly, and makes sure her children get no publicity.
And she still has her feet on the ground despite that wealth, and hasn't changed her political views or priorities when she became a millionaire.

agree 100% Maryz

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/09/2012 15:06

Blush yup wrong thread.
Don't you just hate it when that happens.
Anyway, back to the subject in hand, do the people who think this is receiving too much press coverage, do you actually have teenage daughters? Would you be quite happy for your 15 year old to run off with her teacher, and just leave them to it Hmm.
I only have a teenage son but can't imagine some predatory teacher encouraging him to run off with them.

My heart goes out to Megan, poor daft thing. Reality may not have intruded on the romantic idyll yet, but it certainly will. And she will be very isolated when it does.

What a weak, self-indulgent twerp that teacher is.

flippinada · 27/09/2012 15:20

I could say a lot on this issue but MaryZ has said it all so eloquently that I don't need to.

I don't believe there's a single person on here who would be so blase if this happened to their child or a child they cared about.

Whatever happens, I hope Megan is safe and well. Her parents must be going through torture right now.

thewashfairy · 27/09/2012 15:22

Maryz you are so incredibly right on all accounts! I have a 15yo DD and you have described her to a T. All 'growned up' one minute, playing Mario Cart on the DS the next. Mature as she seems at times I would worry myself sick if she was in this kind of situation. She will be looking up to him as her 'leader' in this whole sorry sage because he is a) the adult
b) her teacher.
What if she regrets the whole situation and is desperate to get home, but he doesn't want to as he knows what's waiting for him.
Would she be strong enough to be able to persuade him it's been enough?
Would he 'allow' her to go back?

I just hope they are found safe and sound soon for everyone's sake

ViviPru · 27/09/2012 15:27

There is a European arrest warrant. Relating to an offence of child abduction. If they are found in any European country, he can be arrested and she can be taken into protection.....

My heart goes out to his parents. They must be devastated. Very brave of them to appear and make the appeal imo.

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/09/2012 15:29

I agree flippinada.
And i don't believe for a minute that the French would do nothing if their own teenage children were in this situation.
Comparing it to someone cheating on their wife is quite insulting to all the loving French parents out there.

ViviPru · 27/09/2012 15:30

My god his poor mother...
