Women who let their hair go grey

CJ2010 · 13/09/2012 10:36

I don't understand why women, except the very old, say age 70 plus do not cover their grey hair?

I know a couple of women who have just turned 40 who are letting their grey come through and are just leaving it. It makes them
look so much older and washed out. I don't understand it really. I appreciate that some women are into the 'natural' look and are not fussed with make up and hair dye but I think by not having colour on your hair you age yourself dramatically.

Grey hair looks so wrong on younger women. AIBU?

Yabu

I have dyed my hair since i was 15 and now at 34 can longer dye it as it will all fall out so unfortunately my grey hairs coming thru have to stay grey

whyme2 · 13/09/2012 10:39

The M&S advert has a lovely looking grey haired lady. Each to their own, I colour mine.

I think it's nice to see someone who allows themself to age naturally, especially if they look happy and healthy. Much better than poorly-dyed hair ruined by chemical treatments.

YABU

How is this your problem, who made you the judge of how people should look?

I'm over 40 with grey starting and have NO intention of covering it, dying hair, regrowth, roots showing, leaving it coloured until your 75 when suddenly grey is ok... no thanks. If I am grey by 50, then so be it.

YOu are so wrong on so many levels.

WowOoo · 13/09/2012 10:40

Oh, please.
I don't understand people like you either.

Ephiny · 13/09/2012 10:41

Maybe some women don't mind looking older? Or don't mind enough to bother dyeing their hair.

Why do you care what other people do with their own hair?

SomersetONeil · 13/09/2012 10:41

I'm in the southern hemisphere btw, before anyone gets concerned about my lush tendencies... Hmm

Here we go....

Nancy66 · 13/09/2012 10:42

It can look really chic and elegant.

it's much easier to go grey if you're blonde because the grey shows less and is easily covered - if you're dark then even if you colour it the grey roots will be showing in a fortnight. It does become very high maintenance.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/09/2012 10:42

some people's scalps get very sensitised to hair dye after years of use, and they have to stop using it. I can see this happening to me as I have had greys since I was 11 so that is many years of dying.

TunipTheVegemal · 13/09/2012 10:42

No OP you're wrong, grey hair is much cooler.

I am going grey (40) and wouldn't dream of dyeing it Smile

rockandahardplace2012 · 13/09/2012 10:42

I do personally think grey hair is very aging. But each to their own, if they dont want to cover it. Who cares?

CJ2010 · 13/09/2012 10:42

I do respect personal choice but I don't understand why a relatively young woman would allow herself to go grey.

Hair colour is a simple anti ageing tool. It's easy to do, cheap, non invasive and doesn't require surgery.

Why do some women want to be grey? I don't get it.

I choose to colour my hair. Hair dyes can be very harsh and dangerous, it's probably a much healthier choice not to use hair dye. I don't care what other people choose to do with their hair.

Do you think younger men should be covering their grey hair too?
