any shop displays I've seen (yes you M&S) dont look like they are selling

personally I'd rather give my money away than but a union jack mug/various shite, but maybe thats just me

so is anyone up here buying into all the hype?

No way not me. Same with Olympics stuff, John Lewis is full of it.

Groovee · 31/05/2012 11:10

I'm a brownie leader and we're doing some jubilee bunting and flags. The only person I saw was in George Street in Edinburgh, this old woman was wearing a union jack raincoat which a few minutes later we saw in Primark.

Apparently my kids are to wear red white and blue tomorrow

lattelov3r · 31/05/2012 11:10

nope between that and the olympics i really couldnt give one

Lac365 · 31/05/2012 11:10

DD's gran bought her a flag.
She has a Jubilee party on Tuesday so was going to buy some tat for her to wear/take.

Not into the hype but like a party and jealous that I don't get the holidays!

Glitterkitten24 · 31/05/2012 11:12

Nope, was just saying that yesterday to my friend! The shops are so full of jubilee stuff but I can't imagine anyone I know buying any of it.
Itll all be on sale for 50p on Tuesday!

NettoSuperstar · 31/05/2012 11:13

I'm English but I live in Scotland.
There's a Jubilee Fete on Saturday but that's probably because it's a Navy Estate.

Glitterkitten24 · 31/05/2012 11:13

Even the kids I know who are having jubilee parties at school ect are wearing normal red/white/blue loathes rather than buying union jack stuff that you are unlikely to wear again.

prettybird · 31/05/2012 11:14

Me neither.

Also don't know anyone who has bought tickets for the Olympics football games at Hampden.

PacificDogwood · 31/05/2012 11:15

Nope.

But I am not British Grin.

Local school did a Torch Walk through the village today - that was fun! Cardboard torches they'd made and t-shirts they'd decorated to represent different countries.

fallingandlaughing · 31/05/2012 11:15

No, no and no.

I noticed the displays in M&s look completely untouched.

A chance for some cut price biscuits in a week or two!

AlbertoFrog · 31/05/2012 11:16

Bought two boxes of limited edition union jack nappies. They were vastly reduced in tesco.

DH highly amused they're going to be pissed in!

everythingtodo · 31/05/2012 11:16

Eh no - it's all rather daft and a waste of money , and just a bit weird!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/05/2012 11:17

I was tempted to buy a jubilee mug to piss off DP. But no the shelves are groaning with jubilee (and Olympic) tat.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 11:17

Nope, don't know anyone who's bought anything or is having a Jubliee celebration. Apparently there are only 100 parties planned in Scotland as opposed to 9500 in England and Wales.

Some of the M&S merch is cute, they have a particularly nice biscuit tin, but there's no way I'd ever buy it.

Thanks for the extra day off though your Maj!

everythingtodo · 31/05/2012 11:17

I do have football tickets at Hamden- well dh does...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/05/2012 11:17

Not my shelves! I meant Asda

SusanneLinder · 31/05/2012 11:19

Nope. Not the slightest bit interested in the Jubilee or the Olympics. Will go and see the torch next week tho.

I will take an interest in the Commonwealth tho, as one of the events is like half a mile from my house.

I keep seeing adverts in Thomas Cook for trips to see things like Womens Volleyball :o. I was so excited by that.

LadyBeagleEyes · 31/05/2012 11:20

I'm going to buy some limited edition red, white and blue M & Ms.

everythingtodo · 31/05/2012 11:22

The weirdest thing i saw was a fresh sponge cake with union jack icing in m&s at least TWO months ago....wtf! Cant belive they sold any.

Really surprised the stores havent regionised their stock - its the wrong flag and we're just not going to buy it is, i think the majority view point here!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 31/05/2012 11:26

This thread shows exactly the reason why I would never live in Scotland, despite having many much loved family members up there.

soozybee1 · 31/05/2012 11:29

It's just the Union flag new. It's only the Union Jack when it's flown at sea

DogEared · 31/05/2012 11:31

I'm in Wales and the only ones I know who are celebrating are people who have moved here from England.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 11:32

But just think Outraged you'd get all the Union Jack victoria sandwiches to yourself!
