any shop displays I've seen (yes you M&S) dont look like they are selling

personally I'd rather give my money away than but a union jack mug/various shite, but maybe thats just me

so is anyone up here buying into all the hype?

yes, I heard her mum having an animated conversation with the Head about the political situation back home in fact.

NovackNGood · 31/05/2012 14:31

Fanjo I am sure you cannot be unaware of the recent problems of Bosnia and the ethnic cleansing carried out by sectarian parts of society.

Actually bigoted does mean being prejudiced against others opinions and lack of tolerance to their views.

If you wanted to accuse me of being anti Scottish, which I most certainly am not, with no reason for that belief you should have accused me of being xenophobic.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 31/05/2012 14:33

Of course i am not unaware of them. Neither are the teachers at school. What is your issue here?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 31/05/2012 14:34

Should I have opposed the choice of flag in some weird protest

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 31/05/2012 14:34

or said "damn, DD has no yellow blue and white clothes I'd better buy some"..which i did.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 31/05/2012 14:40

Nope nope nope though my English colleague is sad about the lack of stuff happening. Don't even think DD's school is doing anything (other than shut), a course of action I'm entirely in agreement with. Looking forward to buy the cut price m&s biscuits tho - really like the tins the come in!

Puremince · 31/05/2012 14:45

Just back from the school "Garden Party." Out of the 60 or so kids and equal number of parents, lots were wearing normal clothes in red, white and blue, or fancy frocks, but I only spotted five pieces of Union Jack stuff - one dress, two hats, one hair band and a scarf. Plus the eats included a cake with Union Jacks on it and the Mr Kipling French fancies which they're redone in red, white and blue.
So general willingness to participate, but little evidence of rash spending on tat.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 31/05/2012 14:48

The rangers thing - there was a completely obsessed rangers fan where I used to work and she was a big fan of the English football team, would have applauded her if the sentiment behind it hadn't been sectarian!

One of my colleagues (Scottish) going to Hamden (and some of the London events).

My PILS live in SE and I'm in London today. It always strikes me that the royal family just feels more 'current' here but that dissapates the further you go from the south

Nevertooearlyforcake · 31/05/2012 14:50

Caerlaverock, is your house triangular?

fedupofnamechanging · 31/05/2012 14:50

DD's school had a prince and princess day. All the girls got to wear their party dresses and they made crowns in class. A nice way to mark the occasion, but not requiring much money to be spent on stuff that won't be used again.

Our neighbourhood is having a picnic in the park on Monday - again cheap, but lovely. hope the weather is good - it is looking a bit dodgy at the moment.

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 31/05/2012 14:51

royalist v anti-royalist argument aside...

'Brit-kat' must have had them all grinning in the marketing meeting, no? Grin britkat

For what its worth, I am on a Scottish island and we are having a series of events, no less. And I have splashed out on some paper cups, plastic bunting and balloons.

fedupofnamechanging · 31/05/2012 14:52

love the Brit-kat

TheSurgeonsMate · 31/05/2012 14:59

I've bought a jubilee tin of shortbread from M&S.

WilsonFrickett · 31/05/2012 15:01

So general willingness to participate, but little evidence of rash spending on tat Exactly that.

duckdodgers · 31/05/2012 15:09

Im planning on making red, white and blue cupcakes any excuse to make and eat cakes to celebrate.

Winterdyke · 31/05/2012 15:19

I read that as "Brit Kak" Grin

prettybird · 31/05/2012 15:19

To "prove" my Scottish credentials, I've just made a batch of tablet - but that's not for the Jubilee Celebrations, it's for presents. :)

squoosh · 31/05/2012 15:24

prettybird Scottish people I have learnt have the sweetest tooth in the whole wide world. Looking at tablet makes me feel a little bit diabetic Grin

JennyPiccolo · 31/05/2012 15:24

Is there something going on at Hampden?

JennyPiccolo · 31/05/2012 15:25

Yeah, i could mainline tablet. It has to be a light brown colour though, not a pasty beige.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 15:27

But could you eat tablet whilst simultaneously drinking Irn Bru? Your teeth wouldn't fall out so much as completely turn to dust.

Puremince · 31/05/2012 15:31

If you boil Irn Bru down to a syrup, it's incredibly sweet.

JennyPiccolo · 31/05/2012 15:39

You'd be brushing your teeth and you'd spit them out with the toothpaste.

JennyPiccolo · 31/05/2012 15:39

why would you boil irn-bru down to a syrup, you crazy woman?!

prettybird · 31/05/2012 15:40

Actually, if I'm honest, this is the second batch I've made today, as the first batch was indeed a wee bit pilly wally and didn't have the level of "bite" I wanted Blush

Giving it to people who've not necessarily had tablet before and wanted it to be a "good" batch! Grin
