to think that Derek Acorah is either mad or bad?

I've just seen that Derek Acorah is claiming to have been advised by the spirit world that Madeline McCann is no longer alive.

I have an open mind when it comes to psychics but I have heard in the past that Acorah has been discredited on numerous occasions.

To me, this is just a cruel thing to do. I have my own opinions about the tragedy of the disappearance of Madeline and I have often wondered whether her parents would prefer to know if she had sadly passed away, closure? Who knows what it is like to be in their position? But some bloke, claiming that 'Sam' told him she's dead is not closure, it's just cruel IMO.

If this had come from a well respected psychic, I think I might give it more credence (as I said Im open-minded), but it comes from a man who is widely considered a charleton.

Is he a bad man, who is using the grief of parents to make a few quid from the papers or is he crazy enough to think that this really was helpful?

pumpkin ppl like him do harm ppl's lives....they fish for info etc and cause untold grief to relatives left behind....sometimes these arseholes leave more questions for the grieved onesSad

perplexedpirate · 15/05/2012 22:24

Of course he's doing harm! He ( and all the others in his sordid little coven- don't me started on that Sally woman...Angry) is lying to people about being able to contact their dead loved ones -for money!
He is manipulating vulnerable people in the most disrespectful and mercenary way possible. It's fraud, pure and simple.
If you don't see what is wrong with what he does...well I despair, I really do.

You're playing devil's advocate aren't you pumpkin

Empusa · 15/05/2012 22:29

pumpkin Have you read my previous post? I suggest you do, it might make you reassess "doing no harm" and "bringing peace".

doormat I also haven't seen any proof on this thread

doormat · 15/05/2012 22:31

seeker check your snarly posts, ev1 to me has been sarcastic....i dont have loads, i only have 3 out of hundreds as i said in the beginning..the info is with the pi team....i resigned as it took up too much of my time ...i am more of a debunker like yourself.. i am not going to disclose to a narrow minded person like you who hasnt got a clue what i am on about..except maybe a few links to website on the internet....sorry seeker but i have noticed you come on threads and target you prey ....well unfortunately i am not going to be your whipping boy so get over it

pumpkinsweetie · 15/05/2012 22:31

Empusa-no i haven't i will take a look

doormat · 15/05/2012 22:34

empusa i gave 2 names to google... i will be asking mn to delete it for the families sake....i also stated that it was since refuted...poss because of derren brown

seeker · 15/05/2012 22:40

Ok- so you won't give the evidence because "I am too narrow minded to understand"

If the evidence is strong enough it will be convincing. Regardless of the narrowness of the mind considering it.

And I haven't singled you out. You are the only person on this thread who has said you have evidence that paranormal things have happened. All I did was ask for it.

perplexedpirate · 15/05/2012 22:41

It's not proof then is it, if it's been refuted. Hmm

Empusa · 15/05/2012 22:42

What perplexed said. (Appropriate nickname in the circumstances!)

seeker · 15/05/2012 22:47

Thisbis what DS Sloane, Head of the Merseyside murder team had to say.

"I wish to state, categorically, that as the Senior Investigating Officer on the Lyndsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.?

doormat · 15/05/2012 22:53

empusa seeker asked for a case which i gave.....

seeker i apologise profusely for my comment, i was out of order, i can only state that i have seen 3 cases of precognition or clairovoyant abilities....it was recorded by video, tape recorder and other equipment like temperature readings, energy vibrations et al....last i knew of it, it was going to be sent off to spr

MardyBra · 15/05/2012 22:53

doormat I know we have agreed to disagree, but seeker is right. You have given no evidence. Just an assertation that a medium got 3 cases correct out of hundreds. We don't know what those three cases are, so we can't make any judgements. I'm sorry but I missed taking down the names to google earlier. And I'm afraid the sceptics are unlikely to take your word for it.

As I also stated up thread, 3 cases out of "hundreds" are probably statistically coincidental.

Let's not resort to hurling insults though - I'd rather have a proper debate.

doormat · 15/05/2012 22:55

yes but seeker but it was refuted after derren brown...before then it was common knowledge he helped the police....

doormat · 15/05/2012 22:58

mardy of course and i have already profusely apologised to seeker for my posts but it wasnt without provocation ....i can only state what i have witnessed under controlled conditions....

MardyBra · 15/05/2012 22:59

Yes I saw that. Smile x post.

seeker · 15/05/2012 23:03

Mardybra- the two names doormat meant, I think, were Joe Power and Lyndsey Quy, a murder victim Power claims to have helped the police to find. Even though the Murder team categorically deny he was involved. And even though most of his pronouncements on the case dated from a time AFTER her murderer was convicted,

doormat · 15/05/2012 23:04

mardy i cant blame skeptics who cant take my word for it, i am a huge skeptic myself and come across tons of crap, spent my weekends in cold conditions, houses where they have felt something in the room (may i say since paranormal activity film has come out...seems to be en masse, and just stupid) because i am a skeptic... i dont believe it till i see it with my own eyes blah de blah ...so i do understand....

seeker · 15/05/2012 23:04

Doormat, what do you make of DS Sloan's statement?

seeker · 15/05/2012 23:07

Bearing in mind that DS Sloane's statement was made 2 years before Derren Brown proved Joe power to be a fraud?

FuckingSaggyOldClothCatPuss · 15/05/2012 23:11

Derek Akorah is a totally fake charlatan.
The total stranger who approached me in the petrol station in a strange town and told me all about my grandmother recently dying of cancer, including he fact that she was only 4ft2...I'm not so sure. Confused

doormat · 15/05/2012 23:14

considering it was 18 mths after the investigation closed what can i say....but sorry not alot of police forces in uk or abroad admit to using psychics in their investigations....

doormat · 15/05/2012 23:15

joe power was fraudulent before then seeker...

seeker · 15/05/2012 23:17

But didn't you give me his name to google as an example of how psychics often help the police? I am now officially baffled.

pumpkinsweetie · 15/05/2012 23:20

Its a big IF but what if he is truely phsycic , maybe he could be of help to the case and find clues to how she may have vanished.
Maybe after all these years have passed there could be hope, lets not forget there are some really good phsycics out there

MardyBra · 15/05/2012 23:24

"lets not forget there are some really good phsycics out there"

Erm - no.
