To think all men are basically pervs?

Hi there

Felt compelled to ask this as just lately I have really been seeing men in a different light when in social settings. Perhaps I am just getting old and grumpy or reading something that isn't there.

I have been to a few parties recently and have been really conscious of men eyeing up very young almost tartily dressed teenagers. These girls were dressed very glamorously but waay too old for their age. I saw a couple of girls probably aged 16/17 and a couple over 18's, but not by much.

What I found worrying was middle aged men blatently eyeing them up and more worrying men in my group of friends/family. Men old enough to be their dad's. Not necessarily gawping but craftily staring when they could. Now I'm talking not just about a pretty girl but proper tarted up, hot pants the lot.

It made me feel quite sick to see middle aged men perving like this, so am I being unreasonable here to think even nice guys are secret pervs and although they may not be happy with their daughters dressed up like that, they will happily ogle others?

Thankyou Sardine, I like that, its much better than ick.

Malificence · 02/03/2012 18:17

Surely most moderately intellingent and mature men are capable of appreciating a young woman's beauty without mentally undressing her or drooling onto the floor - if not then how on earth do they manage around their daughters, neices, sisters or grandchildren?

Malificence · 02/03/2012 18:20

Yes, strangely enough he's also one of those liars who doesn't use porn either. Wink

I'm so naive and deluded, he's been able to hide his true neanderthal self from me for nigh on 30 years.

Any woman worried about their hubby lusting after a young female should encourage him to engage one in conversation. Watch his expression crumble in the face of sheer, unending drivel. Sentences appear to be punctuated with the word 'like' instead of commas or full stops. If some of them dress provocatively, it's because they are vacuous clones of their heroine, the mighty Jordan, and they have no hope of attracting somebody any other way Grin

NotaDisneyMum · 02/03/2012 19:30

Is the suggestion that before an adult admires a body they find attractive they should check the face attached to said body and make an assessment of the age of the body's owner?

What's wrong with admiring something (discreetly) that you find attractive? Assuming that it doesn't lead to action, where's the harm?
I admire the bodies men & women of all ages for a variety of reasons - some with envy, some with awe and some with lust Wink That doesn't mean that I admire, or even consider, them as a person in that moment in time - the visual stimulus is their body's appearance, not their overall presence.

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 19:31

This is about leering and staring, notadisneymum.

And I would say if a girl or a boy is in school uniform it is pretty obvious that they are quite young.

DebbieD78 · 02/03/2012 19:33

How do you define "leering" anyway? Do they have to be acting like Sid James or is merely looking enough?

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 19:44

You don't know what leering is?

I guess for me it's when it makes people and/or the leered at person uncomfortable.

Do you really not know the difference between being leered at and being looked at?

TiggyD · 02/03/2012 19:44

A man might sometimes notice a lady has a particularly nice bottom, attractive legs, cheerful bazooms, or erotic ears. That's natural. It's when they take the bits and keep them in the freezer that it starts to get worrying. They've taken it too far.

It might also be a problem with older ladies who have let themselves go to seed. If they let themselves go all saggy and baggy and start wearing 'mum jumpers' and comfortable legwear, their partners will obviously start looking at less hideous people. The over 40s need to get back to wearing hotpants and low cut tops. There are plenty of good recipes you can do with mutton, it's just takes longer to prepare.

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 19:49

TBH it's been a relief when I've been in a not-getting-leered -it phase!

Being visibly pregnant was marvellous.

NotaDisneyMum · 02/03/2012 19:53

sardine the OP hasn't suggested that the girls being looked at were uncomfortable with it though - or that she made it clear to the gentlemen doing the looking that she was uncomfortable with their behaviour either - what one person considers a discrete look, another may consider 'perv'ing'.

LoL at keeping bits in the freezer - classic Grin

Honeydragon · 02/03/2012 19:56

Oh TiggyD I do so love you even though your penis smells of lavender

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 19:59

I see men leering at schoolgirls quite a lot, as an example, and it make me feel uncomfortable.

I think that is fair enough.

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 20:00

In what world do people think that a person would come on the internet to complain about men discretely looking at women?

Clues in the OP are things like "obviously eyeing them up".

I am all for an admiring glance, a discrete look, a smile at someone you think it attractive.
I am not all for old geezers leering at teenagers.

NotaDisneyMum · 02/03/2012 20:29

It's subjective though - The men doing the eying up might have considered their behaviour to be discrete, and OP may have been the only guest paying attention Wink

A colleague objected to the way a perv man was looking at me; I thought his attention was perfectly friendly and acceptable, but she was outraged on my behalf! Wink

Whatmeworry · 02/03/2012 21:03

He wasn't leering at her :o

Maybe that is where the OP is coming from too?

MoreBeta · 02/03/2012 21:29

Aah...I think I see we are getting to the bottom of it now.

Its how the woman feels about the man that is looking at her that matters. If he is young and attractive and she feels flattered then its not leering. If he is middle aged and she is not flattered well thats leering.
