Sister In Law from Hell

Hi, Just venting but my SIL is driving me mad - she and her husband own a business which seems to make her think she is the busiest most important person in the world (which she is not she spends 50% of the year in france) but yet despite all the money and time to go to france she hasn't been to see her nephew who is now 11months old - well actually she popped in for an hour on her way to france about 9 months ago. This is the latest in a long long line of similiar self-important behaviour and I have reached my breaking point. Situation is made worse because DH not v good at challenging her so I have said - look if you want to accomodate your sister (by going for a £400 2 annual leave days trip to Ireland) that's fine but dont expect me to go - is there really a reason she can't come to us and make the effort everyone else has to make - ie a pre-arranged trip not just popping by 'on her way to somewhere else- husband trying to imply I am being selfish but I really am not - any views

OP posts:

What? My post saying the OP is BU and a little odd gets deleted but other posts saying the OP is probably sock-puppeting and that she's a little spoilt madam etc are allowed to stand?

Someone please explain that me.

OP, it is my personal opinion that you are being unreasonable and quite odd to think that your SIL is "from hell" because she doesn't prioritize your child... however, it's my personal opinion, and wasn't meant as an attack. Obviously someone else did...

aurynne · 29/02/2012 21:42

Actually, this person sounds suspiciously similar to the one that berates another SIL for "being childless" and refuses to give her their second-hand unwanted laptop. Anyone else made the connection?

Salmotrutta · 29/02/2012 22:04

The OP reminds me of a poster ages ago who wanted her SIL to be more enthusiastic about the poster's plans for a weekend house party to celebrate her anniversary.
It was a very long story but the poster flounced in the end 'cos everyone disagreed with her and felt sorry for the SIL.

maddening · 29/02/2012 22:27

I don't think she sounds like a sil from hell - maybe not the best sil ever or even slightly pants at being a sil in your eyes but there are far worse out there - just put it down to one of those relationships that didn't go anywhere and don't waste any more of your time worrying about it

aurynne · 29/02/2012 23:11

Yes Salmotrutta, I do remember that one too!

runningwilde · 01/03/2012 06:28

All these deleted messages - methinks the op is going through this thread and desperately reporting as many posts as she can?!

Your behaviour is coming across as quite deranged

I'm not surprised your sil stays so far away, your whole attitude and the way you come across is very unpleasant

DaffodilsAhoy · 01/03/2012 06:37

Maybe if OP gave the baby a name or even a gender SIL might be more inclined to visit it.

WinkyWinkola · 01/03/2012 09:42

In the op, she says it's a boy.

lisaro · 01/03/2012 15:50

Is it a full moon?

DaffodilsAhoy · 02/03/2012 07:06

Oops yes, it's just the subsequent descriptions of her DS as 'the baby' I find irritating. Sounds like a midwife on OBEM.

CupOfBrownJoy · 02/03/2012 07:30

I didn't "get" this the first time you posted it....

With bells on, LQ.

OP - I also fail to see how it is not inconvenient to interrupt a journey from Ireland to France to see a baby. You can fly there direct from Dublin you know.

Jacksmania · 02/03/2012 15:49

If my comment calling the OP odd gets deleted and LeQueen's comment saying she's mad as a box of frogs spot on is allowed to stand I am going to be really pissed off.

I have PMT and a dangerously large purse to wield, don't you know! :o
