Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, teaandcake, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

Aw that sounded like a lovely day Elmo, gla you are enjoying the weather as well Smile I did read it was supposed to get cold here again next, fingers crossed they are wrong.

Gomummy I am ok thanks, I just seem to be so busy lately, sometimes my head wants to explode

gomummygo · 31/03/2012 23:26

Hello ladies, can I rant a bit please? It's minor but I'm annoyed!

Ok, so every couple of months I get together for a long lunch with some people I used to work with. Since we have no child care, DS comes with me. He is used to formal situations (has been to many meetings, formal dinners in his tiny suit, etc.) and conducts himself very appropriately, much to the shock of the concerned looking patrons at other tables. Grin (Disclaimer: I would NOT go if I was ever concerned about his behaviour in these situations!)

Since leaving work, these lunches are the kind of thing that I really have to save up for. Tbh, I will often sell something on ebay so that I can go without it impacting our family budget, which has changed a lot recently.

So at our most recent get together, I was sitting in the middle of the long table with DS on one side of me and a former employee on the other. We had just finished our entrees and were awaiting coffees and dessert. The restaurant owner knows DS and had come out to chat with him so I let him get on with it, whilst I was having a discussion with the person on the other side of me. At the same time, a (new) waitress was beside the owner in their conversation.

Coffees and desserts arrive, including DS' fruit salad. Waitress returns to the kitchen and brings another FULL ENTREE for DS, the same as the one he had just had. He dives in whilst I am asking where that came from and why? Waitress said "he ordered it!" I looked at her, as though she was going to be joking, she wasn't. By the time I get out that I didn't order it and he is not old enough to order things freely for himself, she waves a hand and says "well, he's eaten some of it now so I can't take it back..." and walks away.

I am, putting it mildly, annoyed by this. I became more annoyed upon receiving the bill, which was v. expensive now with the extra entree. However, just as we were about to pay, something rather terrible came up with another of the people I was sitting with and it seemed not the time to start arguing about my bill with the waitress. So I said nothing (not like me) and paid.

If you are still reading this mammoth post, it's an AIBU! AIBU to be annoyed? Or should I have been listening to DS' every word when he was talking with the owner and his waitress? Should a waitress take an order from him without consulting me?

GrandmasRedCar · 31/03/2012 23:30

Hello, I'm new. I have hot cross buns to offer, although they're crap because they didn't rise enough. But I'll still pass them round quite happily. May I sit on the bench for a spell before I go to bed?

GrandmasRedCar · 31/03/2012 23:33

Oh YANBU gomummygo. I'd have been raging and ruined everyone's night. Shitty of her to put you in that position at all.

gomummygo · 31/03/2012 23:34

Welcome GrandmasRedCar! Have a seat. I feel your pain as my bread did not rise properly this morning as it was not warm enough in the house!

gomummygo · 31/03/2012 23:42

x-post, sorry!

Thanks, I'd normally have been raging as well. One of our group got a phone call with really bad news just as we were all about to pay our bills, it just seemed not the time for me to start a "discussion" with the waitress, iykwim? But I'm also the type of person who seethes about things afterwards if I don't say something about stuff like that...so here I am, a day and a half later! Blush

doubleentendre · 01/04/2012 08:35

I can't find the thread in AIBU however YANBU but perhaps the waitress was ignorant of the nuances of young children and what is inappropriate. You do not take an order off a 4 year old for goodness sake, not without asking the mum.

Teaandcakeplease · 01/04/2012 08:36

Woops that was me as DE Blush I forgot to change my name back again after another post.

gomummygo · 01/04/2012 14:17

Thanks Tea, I was wondering who that was! :) No, I didn't post an AIBU, just wanted to ask you ladies if AWBU as I was really annoyed. I shall be far more careful in the future!

valiumredhead · 01/04/2012 15:09

FFS just go a parking fine - Happy April Fool's Day Hmm

Teaandcakeplease · 01/04/2012 15:24

Oh no Valium Sad What happened?

valiumredhead · 01/04/2012 15:27

Parked in a disabled bay in John Lewis but NCP have taken over and apparently now even if you have a blue badge you need a ticket AS WELL. £35 fine. SOOOOOOOOOOO cross!

Tiredmumno1 · 02/04/2012 13:41

Oh Valium Sad that's not good, were there any new signs to say the rules had changed?

valiumredhead · 02/04/2012 13:45

There was a sign but it was SO high up unless you knew were to look you missed it - as did all the other cars as they also had tickets. Ffs!

I have appealed but won't wold my breath

Gorgeous day here today :)

Tiredmumno1 · 02/04/2012 14:17

Glad you have appealed Valium, they should have made it clearer that there were changes grrrr sneaky gits

It is lovely out there isn't it Smile although it says we are getting sleet on Wednesday so enjoy it just in case

gomummygo · 02/04/2012 22:08

Envy all you lovely weather people. It is snowing here today and snowed yesterday. Not cold though thankfully.

I am so anxious for tulips! Or crocuses! The Canada geese are starting to return, so hopefully spring will be on the way in the not-so-distant future.

Tiredmumno1 · 03/04/2012 14:44

Sorry to hear the weather is still horrid for ya Gomummy, although the flowers sound pretty, would love to see piccys when they are all out in bloom

I can't believe you still have snow, it so weird. Is it like this every year?

gomummygo · 03/04/2012 18:34

Yes, April is always unpredictable. Have had snow on my birthday (May) before but it doesn't stay of course. Not cold though. Will take pics for you if the flowers ever come!

So what do you all do for Easter?

gomummygo · 05/04/2012 02:53

Heeeeelp! I have just found out that I am having many more guests (18) for Easter than I was expecting (9)!! It was supposed to be a v. v. v. formal dinner, everything that I had planned I cannot accomplish that for so many, it won't even fit in the oven! I need your ideas - favourite apps, entrees, desserts, anything! I have to do an emergency run to the butcher and grocery store in the morning, anything that you can suggest would be greatly appreciated! Arghhhh!

I know it is late night as it is already almost 10pm here, I will check in in the morning before I leave in the hopes that any of you have suggestions for me!

valiumredhead · 05/04/2012 09:08

Oh Good Lord go! Shock

I'm nipping in to say Happy Easter as we are away for the long weekend - see you next week and don't eat stuff yourselves silly too much chocolate Wink x

Tiredmumno1 · 05/04/2012 12:02
