To let my almost 3yo sleep 10pm - 8am?

Does anyone else have these sleeping hours for their small children?

Probably not on MN!

He has a 30 minute nap at nursery, and doesn't seem tired, but I do have to wake him up in the mornings...

NinkyNonker · 10/11/2011 21:46

Sounds lovely, yawn.

squeakytoy · 10/11/2011 21:46

I used to sleep from 8pm to 8am as a kid that age.. sounds quite normal to me.

DamnBamboo · 10/11/2011 21:46

Fucking fantastic.

Lucky you.

johnthepong · 10/11/2011 21:48

no way! I need my 3 yr old in bed by 7 so I have some down time. He sleeps 12 hours a night and is always tired by bedtime. Couldnt imagine anything worse than having him clambering over me whilst I do important jobs in the evening like mn

LadyBeckenham · 10/11/2011 21:48

Mine does about 8am - 7.30pm; Is that not normal Confused

LadyBeckenham · 10/11/2011 21:48

Arrrgh 8pm-7.30am obviously!

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 10/11/2011 21:49

My son used to go to bed at 7pm and get up at 9am. Was bloody brilliant, it was!!! Grin

Knackeredmother · 10/11/2011 21:49

Me me me!!!!!
I thought I was the only one! My 2 (4 and 23 months) didnt wake up until 10am yesterday! It's great for lie ins but killing us as we get no time alone and struggle to get stuff done at night.
However, I'm a night owl andy dd has been the same since birth. However, we are starting a clampdown as we feel like freaks!
It's good to know we are not alone!

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 10/11/2011 21:50

I say use to, he still does at nearly 4! We all like a lie in!

Cherriesarelovely · 10/11/2011 21:50

I would hate to have my dd up and about all evening and would always rather she woke earlier and went to bed earlier but it is up to you.

tarantula · 10/11/2011 21:51

We went for a 9 to 9 routine ......but generally ended up as a 9 to 7.30/8 routine. It worked really well for us and I got to see dd lots when I got in from work and dp got some peace and quiet in the mornings.

MarianneM · 10/11/2011 21:51

We do! DD1 has never had the British style 7pm bedtime, but we used to get her to go to sleep by 8.30pm when she was smaller, she is now very nearly 3. Now...oh dear, she and DD2 finish their bath by about 8pm, then stories, then DD2 (16 months) falls asleep around 9pm (until 7ish) and DD2 messes around...it is now 9.50 and I hope she will be asleep soon... I really wish she would settle earlier, but it is usually around 9.30-10pm when DD1 falls asleep. And she sleeps until about 8am, unless it is very quiet in the morning, in which case she sleeps later than that.

Both DDs nap for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Sirzy · 10/11/2011 21:52

I agree cherries!

I am a big fan of earlier bedtimes for young children.

Tis up to you. But I do like to have an evening, and once it's dark there isn't much to do indoors with a toddler in the evening I don't think DD would settle for wine and Masterchef on the sofa

But then mine go to bed at 7-8 and wake up at 6 (yawn) so maybe I'm missing a trick!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 10/11/2011 21:53

YANBU.

DS1 goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up somewhere between 7 and 8am. Now if only his baby brother would follow his example....

Knackeredmother · 10/11/2011 21:53

Should also add my dd is wide awake now, dh is fast asleep and I'm trying everything to get her to sleep so I can go to bed. However she has NEVER in 4 years slept before 10pm even if we get her up at 6.30am.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/11/2011 21:54

sorry what is bizarre about 10-8? Is it because 10 is unusual in the UK?

academyblues · 10/11/2011 21:57

Yes, in the UK children tend to go to bed earlier than, for example, in mainland Europe.

7pm seems pretty standard time for pre-school children here.

MarianneM · 10/11/2011 21:58

Franca - British people tend to put their children to bed at 6 or 7pm.

worraliberty · 10/11/2011 22:00

I've never put any of my 3 kids to bed before 8pm

I couldn't imagine putting them to bed at 6pm...they'd never have seen their Dad for a start.

GsyGacheFiend · 10/11/2011 22:00

My 3yo DS usually does 12 hrs from 7/7.30ish. He used to go to bed later but once he started preschool it was a lot easier to get him to bed earlier as he was tired out. Even on days he's not at preschool he still tends to get up at the same time. I figure it's good practice for when he starts school.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 10/11/2011 22:00

10 is very unusual.

We get Hmm looks for being out with ours at 7pm on a Saturday. A lot of Brits are incredibly uptight and judgey about early bedtimes for children.

AbbyAbsinthe · 10/11/2011 22:00

Oooh I couldn't be having a toddler up until that time of night. I would rather early to bed, early to rise - I need adult time of an evening.
