To let my almost 3yo sleep 10pm - 8am?

Does anyone else have these sleeping hours for their small children?

Probably not on MN!

He has a 30 minute nap at nursery, and doesn't seem tired, but I do have to wake him up in the mornings...

Dd (15 mo) goes down between 7 and 730, she couldn't last longer. If she sleeps through shewakes sometime between 0530 and 7.

These timings work for us as DH works 0745 to 415, meaning we'd all be awake from when hr gets up at 0645 anyway, and he gets time with her in the eve too.

Apologies havaen't read the entire thread.

Don't see any issue with putting your DC to bed later if that is what suits you.

The one thing I would say is if you are having to wake your DS then he hasn't had enough sleep, it would be better if he woke naturally so I would probably put him to be a bit earlier so that he could wake naturally.

DS (age 2 and a bit) does 9 - 7:30/8am most of the time. I'm happy enough with that. There seems to be an obsession with 7-7 and I used to get really worked up about DS not getting 12 hours at night and got stressed about it. But have learned that he will sleep as much as he needs to and don't get stressed now.

I haven't read through all the thread either, but I don't see anything wrong with your routine as long as it suits you and your child. My DS wouldn't settle much before midnight until he was 1, but by the time he was 3, he usually went to sleep between 8 and 9 p.m., woke up between 8 and 8.30 a.m. and had an hour's (sometimes an hour and a half) nap every afternoon until he was almost 4. However, if we were on holiday or out late for a special occasion, he would always sleep 11 or 13 hours from the time he went to bed. So, we could have him out with us on holiday in Spain until midnight or 1 a.m. and he would sleep in until 11 a.m. How brilliant was that! :)
So carry on with your routine for as long as it suits you both, but you may need to think about adjusting it gradually nearer the time your DC starts school, as 10 p.m. is too late for most Reception-aged children.
