here

Changes to system WRT worker hours

have a thread in chat and don;t want a debate, or at least won't participate iun one as petrified as we will now certianly lose our home and not up to taking flak. But if it affects you, you need to know.

Tianc no he should not get benefits but he is more ill than his brother who has been on IB for 10 years. so it is v odd.

bytheMoonlight · 11/11/2011 19:53
Hmm
elliejjtiny · 11/11/2011 19:54

It wouldn't be pleasant to live off dh's wage alone but it would be possible if he stopped paying into his pension and I walked the dc's to school and preschool instead of getting the bus.

usualsuspect · 11/11/2011 19:56

does his brother have a big fuck off TV ?

Marne · 11/11/2011 19:56

Dawndonna - i like your post (wish there was a like button), dd1 has AS and i hope one day she will change the world, after all Albert Einstein was on the spectrum, you never know when of our children could discover a cure for cancer (dd1 plans on finding a way to predict an earthquake) Smile. The world would be a sad place with out children and adults with sn's.

Lookattheears · 11/11/2011 19:56

Can I ask those who are so vehemently opposed to these changes, what they would do.

The welfare bill alone costs more per annum than we bring in income tax in this country. It is a monster and it is utterly and completely unsustainable. it needs to be tackled.

Come on, tell me how we do it.

usualsuspect · 11/11/2011 19:59

maybe target the tax evaders?

TheRealTillyMinto · 11/11/2011 19:59

usual - no but he has a 10k stereo!

he inherted 22k recently & 10k before that on a dodgy insurance scam.

Lookattheears · 11/11/2011 19:59

It wouldn't be pleasant to live off dh's wage alone but it would be possible if he stopped paying into his pension and I walked the dc's to school and preschool instead of getting the bus.

But the fact is, that's not a scenario you have to face because the rest of us will be bankrolling you and all your children at the expense of their own life choices, for many.

Alouisee · 11/11/2011 20:01

Re DLA, ds2 had Leukaemia he was diagnosed at age 3 and on treatment for over three years.

A social worker came to find us in the hospital and told me that three months after diagnosis we could claim some type of Dla which would enable us to have a blue badge. I read through the form and I could not have filled it in with a clear conscience. I could have done with the blue badge for all those late night visits to hospital and all those clinic visits and hospital stays. But honestly I was just looking after my son, if I'd been in need of extra money I would have filled in the form.

All i needed when my son was Ill was good medical treatment which we got most of the time I honestly don't believe it's necessary in lots of cases. The blue badge would have made the biggest difference but without the dla I couldn't have one.

bytheMoonlight · 11/11/2011 20:01

How about we leave the disbaled/careers/hard working parents alone?

And concentrate on the long term unemployed who just refuse to work?

How about we tackle the tax avoidence and stop wasting millions (eg ex prime ministers expenses) and put money into the welfare state so it's not on it's knees?

Alouisee · 11/11/2011 20:02

Even the tax evaders effectively create huge tax receipts. Philip Green might not pay uk tax but look at the tax his employees pay, not to mention the rents and business rates that he covers!

Lookattheears · 11/11/2011 20:03

maybe target the tax evaders?

A move which I would 100% support.
But that, sadly, would make a tiny dent in the welfare bill that currently runs at over 100 billion quid a year.

23balloons · 11/11/2011 20:04

Surely this is not just about families with SN children or parents with health problems though is it? I would say the majority of the country have neither yet I know many mothers at ds's school who are simply choosing not to work because they don't actually want to. They freely admit this & ds is in year 6 so not 4 or 5 yrs old.
I know they get ctc because their partner/husband is not on a high wage but they prefer to do the school run then shop/watch tv etc while the kids are at school rather than work. should they really be receiving these benefits, I don't think they should. One mother said she would be prepared to work 3 days a week term time only & school hours, otherwise she wasn't interested. I think these are the people who should have the benefits cut, not people caring for disabled children.

usualsuspect · 11/11/2011 20:05

yes but he still avoids tax ,millions of pounds of tax

It annoys me that the rich are allowed to get away with it ,but the poor and vulnerable are targeted and held responsible for all the countries problems

bytheMoonlight · 11/11/2011 20:06

Or we could just justify the tax avoidance Hmm

WinterIsComing · 11/11/2011 20:08

Leave it as it is perhaps. And give people who have the initiative to be self-employed time to create their own opportunities, eventually employ others and pay tax, rather than force them onto JSA indefinitely because their businesses don't take off in the first year or two in a recession.

This is all very short-sighted. I can see many previously honest families "splitting up" and DH's moving back in with their parents.

The childcare element of tax credits even though it is insufficient for lone parents to live with will cost the government MORE than income support when more people are working for minimum wage and paying out for childcare because they are expected to take a job 90 minutes away. It will all cost a fortune.

Lookattheears · 11/11/2011 20:10

*yes but he still avoids tax ,millions of pounds of tax

It annoys me that the rich are allowed to get away with it ,but the poor and vulnerable are targeted and held responsible for all the countries problems*

I agree.

But it is still a drop in the ocean compared with the horror that is the welfare bill. So what do we do?Just keep paying and keep paying it and watch thousands of good, healthy people live wasted lives on welfare because they are so trapped by it?

Or do we try to do something about it?

bytheMoonlight · 11/11/2011 20:12

There isn't the jobs or the hours of employment for this to work Lookattheears so this isn't 'doing something about it?'

Alouisee · 11/11/2011 20:12

He lives in Monaco, he pays tax there. Perhaps we should become a tax haven? Dubai manages not to collect any taxes but is still comparatively generous to its indigenous population.

SparklyRedShoes · 11/11/2011 20:13

Hate the bloody Tories. Who the hell voted for them anyway?

Oh Yeah,

No one.

Dawndonna · 11/11/2011 20:14

What really pisses me off is that Peachy put the thread up because she was concerned about people in a difficult situation and she was scared. So many people just jump to spout the same old rubbish: "I know benefit scrounging scum", "I know someone fiddling" "You shouldn't have kids if you can't afford it".

God, have you all had an empathy by-pass? Sod off you lot, people have already died because of the benefit changes, if someone is scared give them a bloody break and spout your crap on the DM website.

SparklyRedShoes · 11/11/2011 20:18

I echo the sentiments of Dawndonna. Would those with daily mail sympathies and no empathy please. sod. orf.Smile

WinterIsComing · 11/11/2011 20:19

Oh I know who "voted" for them. My young SIL and all her friends who believed in Nick Clegg and that he would be the champion of students. Poor SIL, she was gutted.

Anyway. Solutions:

Make businesses pay a living wage related to inflation so that there is no need for tax credits. It worked for my baby-boomer parents.

And turn Buckingham Palace, Balmoral et al into affordable housing units. That'll happen Grin

Alouisee · 11/11/2011 20:21

DawnDonna also thinks that Marie Stopes was an evil woman.

Logical? No!
