Katie on CBeebies

BootyMum · 29/07/2011 15:20

I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old. We spend far too much of our days with CBeebies on, either watching a particular show or it just being on in the background

Have come to realise over a period of time that I cannot bear the presenter Katie. My God she is irritating with her OTT fake cheeriness/wackiness, smug smile and patronising manner. Her "I can cook" song with it's "slippy dippy soap" makes me want to ram said soap in her face!

I read another poster describing her as being like the school's head girl gurning at you from the corner of your living room. Absolutely.

I obviously have no life because this is what is getting my goat this Friday afternoon.

AIBU?

Love love love Andy and Sid and their number raps!

Not keen on Katy, pretty annoying and yes head girl, bossy- like!

I'm in total agreement with that dreadful Sarah Jane! Never liked the woman, so irritating and screechy, and getting worse!

BootyMum · 04/08/2011 13:36

I don't know why it is that all the male CBeebies presenters seem relaxed and natural whilst female ones like Katie and Sarah Jane seem rigid, over-emoting and fake [imo]...

Is it something about how men in our culture are positively encouraged to be playful and funny [and thus seem relaxed and natural whilst acting in this way] but the women become somewhat shrill and bossy [or Katie and Sarah Jane at least, I do actually think Cerrie comes across quite naturally but is maybe a bit overshadowed by the bigger personalities, fake or otherwise. Oh and Gladys Emanuelle obviously].

Does anyone have a sociological/feminist/cultural perspective or understanding of this? [Just the discussion for a rainy Thursday afternoon Grin]

I mean that Gladys Emanuelle is obviously wonderful in every way Grin

Wow I was shocked in reading some of these messages about the lovely Katie- I certainly don't think she needs a good scrub- how mean!! Jealousy springs to mind......

poggle · 27/07/2012 09:27

I don't know just what an earlier poster said about Cerrie, but if it is the fact that he finds her disability 'creepy' so what? If he wrote that she should not be on TV because of it that was out of order.

My father lost his left leg above the knee before I was born, so I went to the prosthetics dept's of hospitals in Portsmouth and Stanmore from an early age; some of the things I saw did give me the 'creeps' and probably still would; this does not make me bad, it is just an instinctive / natural reaction to deformity.

By coincidence, my boy (2) does not like Cerrie; however, I suspect it is her Cheshire Cat smile and eyes that do it, he reacts the same way to Ed Balls, The Joker and a Japanese cartoon character called Baikin man.

BikeRunSki · 27/07/2012 09:49

DS adores Katie and is going to marry her when he is a grown up. I imagine we'll have carrot and courgette muffins afterwards.

gallifrey · 27/07/2012 09:49

nobody in the world is as annoying as bloody Sarah Jane!

StrandedOnThePodium · 27/07/2012 09:50

Katie is the absolute spitting image of DD's keyworker. It's quite scary sometimes

GwendolineMaryLacey · 27/07/2012 09:58

Right...

Cerrie is fab
Alex is pointless
Andy needs a haircut (or did the last time I saw him)
Sid is just mmmmmmm. More nakedy swimming bits please :o
Katy is bearable in very small doses.
Nisha gets on my tits when she yells 'Yay' at the end of her silly song because it hasn't got a proper tune.
Chris and Pui are the mutts

Don't know who Sarah Jane is.

Sorted :)

pinkdelight · 27/07/2012 10:14

Katy's craven ambition shines through. I Can Cook was clearly just a stepping stone to full-on presenting. Maybe this is how it is nowadays, but I yearn for the days of Johnny Morris etc where he had a genuine passion for the subjects he presented to kids about. Now it's like, what would be good for my career? Cooking? Animals? Gardening? Any old shit as long as I get the gig.

Also, on the subject of Katy and cooking, isn't she way too skinny - head too big for body-wise? Cerrie is skinny but in proportion whereas Katy looks like she's keeping her weight down so she doesn't look fat on telly, rampant careerism again. Does my head in. Why can't kids see more normal sized people on telly? Once again, it's down to Justin to be the older/bigger rep and it's not enough.

PeppermintPasty · 27/07/2012 10:30

Mr Maker has recently started to give me the creeps, he looks a bit sinister and stares at the camera in a weird way. So does Ceri , weird staring loons.

Aunty Mabel has taught my DS lots better than I ever could about all sorts of useful stuff making teapots and sewing knickers she rocks.

But Sid and Andy singing all the number songs are the best, I know all the words

PeppermintPasty · 27/07/2012 10:32

Is it really Pui not Poi? I want to say Pie now. [thick emoticon]

MagicDougal · 27/07/2012 10:34

OMG!!!! Thank goodness this is an old thread. I couldn't work out why it was saying that the 29th July was a Friday when I know it's Sunday as it's my son's birthday!!!

Thought I'd gone a bit mad and was going to have to explain to everyone why we were celebrating his birthday on the wrong day!!!!!!!!

I think I need to go and lay down in for a while!!!

KenLeeeeeee · 27/07/2012 10:35

Katie makes me put my sweary hat on and start shouting the C-word everywhere.

I love Justin. I get almost as excited when Something Special comes on as 3yo dd does.

Most children's tv presenters bring me out in hives to be honest.

KenLeeeeeee · 27/07/2012 10:37

Raaaaaaa. Forgot to check thread date. To whomever thinks a disability is "creepy", that is a disgraceful attitude and I loathe the word 'deformity'.

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 27/07/2012 11:14

I hate Katy-can't-cook. With a passion. I hate being patronised, especially by someone who sings like a strangled cat.

Sid and Andy are grreeaat. The guy that used to be on with Cerri is not so. I find Cerri, Sarah-Jane and most of the other women try far too hard - Pui just about gets the level right. Sid and Andy seem to be having genuine fun - the others not so much.

I can't watch Chris because all I see is his eyebrows. They should have their own show Grin

Mr Bloom is nice to look at, but I'd have to gag him Wink And probably tie his arms down, all that hoiking of his braces is too much.

I think Ceebies should be constant Number raps. The season songs are shite now.

Justin irritates me, immensely. The fact he's so worthy makes it more irriating, because I don't feel I can critise quite so much (DC1 used to call him "thattwatJustin" - no idea where he got that from Blush )

And Pui topless Shock

findingellywelly · 27/07/2012 13:12

poggle you are a twat

estellelml · 22/06/2016 12:30

Cant stand Nisha. Hoe they replace her soon or I'll get a permanant migrant listening to her voice n seeing her face daily makes me feeling sick. No problem wt other presenters.

FeckinCrutches · 22/06/2016 12:32

Estelle this thread is 5 years old. Why on earth would you resurrect a thread just to bitch about someone?

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 22/06/2016 12:33

Unfortunate Freudian slip in your zombie thread revival, there, estelle
