To think size 10 is slim?

I realise it depends on how tall someone is, I'm 5'8" and a size 10 which in my head is a slim combination but when I look in the mirror I look quite chunky, it is driving me insane as I can't work out whether a 10 isn't actually that slim or whether it's some kind of weird dysmorphia where I look bigger than I am. Can I just add I am not fishing, just wanted some opinions and wondered if anyone else has a similar thing

I am 5 foot 4 and a size 8 trousers and size 10 top.

I am toned so would say I am slim.

At 5'8'' and size 10, I would imagine you to be slim. You may have quite muscley limbs if you are sporty and that might give you a slightly chuncky appearance (as opposed to looking "willowy").

noddyholder · 31/05/2011 15:51

I think its skinny!

Liliana1 · 31/05/2011 15:51

I would love to be a size 10! I'm only 5'5'' and was a 10 when I got married - felt and looked tiny and loads of people said how small I looked. Usually about a 12 / 14 so didn't lose loads and loads of weight but really did make a difference. So yes I think 10 is healthily slim

Don't know about body dysmorphia so can't help there I'm afraid

MissVerinder · 31/05/2011 15:51

I'm going to biscuit you, but in a nice way.
Biscuit
It is slim.

Liliana1 · 31/05/2011 15:52

Mmmm biscuits! Maybe that's why I'm no longer a 10 Grin

MissPenteuth · 31/05/2011 15:54

Size 10 is slim, especially at 5'8". I'd say a similar thing about myself though; I'm only 5'4" but am a size 8/10 and still feel I look a bit fat at times. In my case I think it's because I'm still bigger and less toned than I was pre-pregnancy.

monstersX2 · 31/05/2011 15:54

I'm 5'9 and size 14, i don't see myself as fat but would like to be a little smaller/toned. I would imagine you to be pretty slim going by your stats. But for comparison my mum is 5'3 and size 10, sometimes she looks a little too thin. Depends on your bones, muscles etc i suppose.

Sizes vary massively between different shops and styles, so 'size 10' doesn't really mean much in absolute terms. Still I'd guess you must be fairly slim!

MrsSnow · 31/05/2011 15:55

Size 10 is slim. The problem is not with you, the problem is with society saying that various celebs "are a curvy size 8", "is now perfectly toned size 6" etc. Society has changed and therefore these changed expectations are bound to have an effect on women and even men.

BulletWithAName · 31/05/2011 15:56

At 5' 8 it most definitely is.

icooksocks · 31/05/2011 15:56

I'm 5ft 8 and when I look back at pictures of me at a size 10 many moons ago I was definitely slim. So you definietly are slim.

nickelbabe · 31/05/2011 15:56

yes, size 10 is slim.
especially as you are 5'8".
size 12 would be slim, too, on someone your height.

icooksocks · 31/05/2011 15:56

apparantly I can't spell definitely though Blush

tulip27 · 31/05/2011 15:58

need to work out your bmi so to be conclusive in my answer I need your weight .

I'm 9 stone 9 pounds.

I have just been in one of those changing rooms with mirrors all around today and caught sight of myself in undies, I was shocked how chunky I looked.

I guess 'selbs do tend to be a lot thinner nowadays and it is mostly them who we see in their bikinis and undies so maybe that's why?

Depends on the shop of course - I have a bit of an arse on me, and huge thighs, but an M & S size 10 skirt will still hang off me, whereas I'd probably struggle to fit into a New Look size 14. But then I'm only 5'4", at 5'8" you're extremely unlikely to look as dumpy as I do.

It's difficult not to do it as it's not really a concious thing, god I'm 31 years old and still worrying about the same things I was when I was 14, will it ever end?!?!

OP posts:
NieuweBuurvrouw · 31/05/2011 16:08

Am with dittany on this one.

In any case, there are few places as unflattering (physically andpsychologically) as changing rooms with all round mirrors. The lighting is usually atrocious and the mirrors flawed. The whole experience seems designed to make one feel exposed and inferior.

joogle · 31/05/2011 16:09

Yes Kate Middleton looks very very thin, it makes me cringe a bit to see someone that thin but then again it could just be her natural shape Blush

Yes you are slim and yes you have bdd. Stop reading mags and watching music vids.

tulip27 · 31/05/2011 16:12

Yes your slim(bmi 23). I agree that society makes size 10 seem big. I'm 5ft 9 and 9 stone and a size 10. I do understand where you are coming from as I don't feel slim when I look in the mirror anymore and perhaps that is because we compare ourseleves to people we see in the media.

YesterdaysPants · 31/05/2011 16:13

You're a perfect size, loads of women would kill for your figure Envy

Perhaps exercising to tone up, and eating healthily will make you feel healthy and fit? Look after your skin, that kind of stuff?

I agree with you about super-skinny celebrities though.

Fwiw I'm a size ten but v chunky of thigh, but I'm only 5' 6". I used to be a 12 all through uni 10 years ago, sizes have definitely got bigger.
