Mumsnet Names

Just wondering really, how long have you had your mumsnet name?
How did you choose it?
Do you get upset or angry if someone else has a similar name to yours or posters sometimes mistake you for another poster.

Do you feel that you "own" your name and no one should have one that sounds the same.
Do you blush if your name gets googled? Grin

Also are some names more stand out then others? And what happens when a few posters have the same type of name, Eg

Mummyone mommy1 sort of thing

its nice of you to think of me that way bitter

onadietcokebreak · 06/03/2011 01:41

My name is pants but I was drinking a diet coke at time of registering!

Do sometimes use abbreviations of it

onadietcokebreak · 06/03/2011 01:42

And an advanced search showed that dietcoke was a troll so that's names nit available!

Jacksmania · 06/03/2011 02:18

I've had the original version of my name since 2008 when I joined. I know it was lame but I'd just had my PFB and couldn't think of any other name :o
Galwaygirl renamed me by typo on Southsea's thread and I liked it so much I changed it :o

I actually get a big giggle out of sweary or clever names like bupcakesandcunting and caininthepunt. Was thinking of changing to something cunt-containing on bupcakes' thread but I think the lovely group I hang out with on the Tea Room thread would have had some difficulty with a name like that, they're not a sweary lot unlike me.

fireblademum · 06/03/2011 10:06

I was a lurker for a while. Discovered the site while I was pg and had pre eclampsia, it was a huge help. I mulled over names for aaages - months. And was mo closer to choosing one when I saw a thread I really. Wanted to post on because it was a rant relating to the area I was working in at the time ( playground design ) so pulled this name out of the air. Keep intending to change it but its growing on me i think it sums me up. I'm a mum with a sports bike. I like to think I'm 'allowed' the m word cos of the motorbike reference. Not mumsy!

CoffeeGoneColdAgain · 06/03/2011 11:38

Mine is farly obvious I'd say! I never get to drink mine when its hot!

Rabat · 06/03/2011 11:52

I've had a few...

(just because I have moments of sanity when I realise what a lot of time I waste on here and delete my membership).

This current one was simply chosen at random from the map near my desk. My previous one was a book title, again a glance away from my computer screen.

Trillian · 06/03/2011 15:25

I have to confess Mr and Mrs Mcmillan (or mum and dad) had a bit of a moment when I was born, neither having read Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy Grin hence Trillian. There is another Trillian around but I don't mind. I don't post very often though and have been mistaken for the other poster, I think that has caused her some upset Sad

thumbwitch · 06/03/2011 15:30

I have always been this name or some seasonal variant of it. I like it, and there are a lot of other 'witches around on the board, which is fine.
I do get confused when I post on a thread with e.g. travellingwilbury and someone then refers to "TW" in their post - could be me or t'other one, confusing.

I would be sad to lose my name. I shall endeavour not to do so.

Mamaz0n · 06/03/2011 15:35

I started off with Fattiemumma back in 2003. But 2shoes kept nagging at me to change it. Then after having to call pillockof the community and use the sentance "Hi pillock its fatty" i decided that 2shoes was maybe right.

I started a thread asking for offerings and someone gave me mamazon. I loved it.

I then became Gigantaur for a while before i deregged entirely earlier this year.
I came back on about a week ago and as Mamazon has always been my true ID i tried to reclaim it, though obviously i can't so i am now Mamaz0n.

OracleInaCoracle · 06/03/2011 15:42

mamazon, when I flounced de-regged a few years back I emailed mnhq to ask for lissielou back, they very kindly let me.

I love my name. I was theladyofthegreenkirtle for a while, but I will always be lissie. lissie was the nn that my gramps gave me. lizzylou and i have had convo's about having such simillar names but its never an issue. we dont tend to frequent the same threads. there was a lissieloo on conception and I pmed her asking if she would mind namechanging. felt a bit bad but its just a bit too close iykwim

ilythia · 06/03/2011 15:44

I have had mine since I had to retire my last name after I went into hidingWink

All my names (including my trollery ones) are to do with television programmes. I like to be consistent.

There was a big MN unused name auction a few years back which was fun. I think it was for charideee.

RunAwayWife · 06/03/2011 15:46

My mother is getting internet so I might have to name change Grin

RunAwayWife · 06/03/2011 15:47

I remember that, do you think MN would do another one????

Mamaz0n · 06/03/2011 15:50

Lissie - i am sure that they would if i begged enough asked. But actaully i am still Mamazon and everyone knows who i am. It just makes it more difficult for people to do a search on me to shit stir. which is never a bad thing

FabbyChic · 06/03/2011 15:52

I have not changed mine and it matches my eBay id.

I won't be changing it either, even though I have made an ass of myself on some occasions with my quick to respond answers and not reading the rest of the thread.

I'm not perfect and see no reason to hide if I make a cock up.

Trillian · 06/03/2011 15:52

How long does a name have to be unused for before it can be sold off?

trice · 06/03/2011 15:53

I have had three or four names. I changed when I was recognised IRL. I like this one because it is short and perky.

OracleInaCoracle · 06/03/2011 15:54

It just makes it more difficult for people to do a search on me to shit stir. which is never a bad thing

thats a v good point!

NinkyNonker · 06/03/2011 16:16

I've been on here for about 18 months, changed name about 4 mo ago. Tis a nickname my DH calls me sometimes.
