ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Ooh reeeeally that sounds great. Everything I know, I learnt from fiction, which is obviously a bit of a flaw given that by definition what I read was not true. Any particular book to start with?

Let's go somewhere on the raft, Unruly, any suggestions?

Hiii Pogle!!

...Rain, you say? YES. Rain. LOTS AND LOTS of rain. Better get finished on this big boaty thing and start rounding up the pesky beasts.

Well done! Have an olive branch, with olives on naturally. :)

Can we go to Zanzibar?

...I wish I could stay Richard Arden forever...

CJCregg · 01/02/2011 21:34

Treacle, I had great fun googling that one Grin

Poor Dickie, sounds like you're running out of luck ...

Well, the problem is she makes you feel special, and then you find yourself agreeing with some of her views. It was only when I got a bit older and got some perspective that I realised how dangerous she might be ...

steamedtreaclesponge · 01/02/2011 22:14

Gosh, there are a lot of them, aren't there! It's a brilliant book though, definitely one of my favourites. Have some ancestral silver as a prize.

Still NI on yours... is she a queen?

AIBU to go to Wales?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 02/02/2011 09:16

Um, is she working for the Magisterium?

Wales, treacle? YANBU.

...Or are you? :o

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/02/2011 13:24

Oh heavens, might she be scottish,CJ? In fact might you (all) be scottish?? if so,I never thought being Famous for Sex was a reasonable ambition to offer a girl - you should def.stand up to her...

YANBU,Treacle - Wales is nice.Unless you are planning on taking it over at swordpoint I suppose.(Then it would still be nice but you would be BU!)

CJCregg · 02/02/2011 13:47

And look what good it did me, Pogle - I ended up a nun!

Well done - have a portrait of the blessed and misunderstood Benito Mussolini (if you want it).

Pogleswood · 02/02/2011 14:01

Thanks - what a lovely picture! Tell you what,I won't be selfish,I'll hang it up here on the raft so that everyone can enjoy it Grin

steamedtreaclesponge · 02/02/2011 14:15

...It is nice - I was born there. And I have been given permission to go with the emissary...

totally lost at sea with all of yours Confused

Pogleswood · 02/02/2011 14:20

Emissary? That's no help!
Is cheese involved at all?

CJCregg · 02/02/2011 14:22

Btw, Pogle, I forgot to say - how lovely to have you back Grin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 02/02/2011 14:24

I have no ideas about Wales, and what's worse, no ideas for AIBUs. As you might be able to tell I have a rubbish memory for books and feel the plundering of the bible/mythology/fairy tales might be getting wearing :o

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/02/2011 14:36

Do please keep on plundering the bible, mythology and fairy tales,Elephants - then I might have a chance of solving the odd one!

It's nice to be back, CJ!

steamedtreaclesponge · 02/02/2011 15:10

hooray! we are a gang once more!

Mmm thanks for the cheese and biscuits Pogle

...it's good to get out of the monastary once in a while...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/02/2011 03:38

Oh dear, everyone seems to have wandered off.

Have cheated googled pondered the monastery aspect but no luck there sadly.

AIBU to be shocked at their flirtatious behaviour?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 07/02/2011 09:11

Are they putting on a play, Elephants? Or hanging out for husbands? Or are they already married?

...and it'll be nice to go on the road with Brother Mark, I haven't seen him in a while...

Pogleswood · 07/02/2011 18:35

I'm wondering if you might be Brother Cadfael(which certainly sounds welsh) Treacle?
But I am handicapped by never having read the books or even watched the TV series....

MCP,and from Elephants too,please.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/02/2011 19:46

Helloooo :)

...No they're not putting on a play, and they're too young to get married really, but nevertheless they're behaving in a very silly manner about these boys they don't even know...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 08/02/2011 11:34

Good guessing, Pogle! I am Cadfael! Have a cassock for your prize.

Elephants, are you thinking of starting up a society to suppress that kind of behaviour?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 08/02/2011 17:57

Why treacle, yes! Yes I am. However did you know? :)

Honourary membership of the Society for the Suppression of Unladylike Conduct is yours.

Am now thinking how funny it would be if MN renamed the feminism section after that. That would puzzle the trolls :)

CJCregg · 09/02/2011 16:40

That took me back, Elephants! Haven't read that book for years. I still have my childhood copy, bound in red leather, sitting on DD's bookshelf waiting for her to reach the right age. Though I do wonder if it will have the same appeal to her, obsessed as she is with lip gloss, nail varnish and The Sarah Jane Adventures Hmm.

AIBU to want to win a race?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/02/2011 01:50

:) CJ, I suddenly had the urge to read it the other day, was amazed at how short it was. Obviously haven't read it since 200 pages looked like War & Peace.

Hope your DD does like it, I was a nail varnish collector and still sailed seamlessly through Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and straight into Sense and Sensibility :o

Are you beshelled? Or big eared?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 10/02/2011 08:36

I still read all the Katy books occasionally - actually, I only discovered last year that there are another two after What Katy Did - great excitement!

CJ, will you be in a boat? Or on a horse?

AIBU to want this girl to like me?

Pogleswood · 10/02/2011 11:53

Is there some incredible prize if you win,CJ?
Hmmm,Treacle - why would she not like you?Being liked seems quite a reasonable aim...

MCP! Smile

CJCregg · 11/02/2011 16:12

No, there's no prize. Just the satisfaction of knowing I've won the bet. And proving I'm just as capable of driving as him.
