My kids are now all at school , and im going slightly (more than usual )bonkers !

So i want one of those dolls .Ideally i would get one that "matched" my children in colouring ... blonde blue eyed little cherub like darlings.

DH thinks ive went mad .
DD2 IS ROLLING HER EYES
Dd3 says just borrow one of dd4`s dollys and play with that.
The boys want to know if im getting a doll , can they get a new toy too.
DD1 thinks ive lost the plot and is looking very scared ...(she due pfb in dec )

should i get one?

yabu

hang on till christmas and spoil your grandchild instead

VoldemortsNipple · 23/09/2010 18:12

Being a stepnan has got to be better than playing dress up with a doll surely.

If you want to start a collection though, fair enough, they are no scarier than those porcelain dolls that people collect.

KurriKurri · 23/09/2010 18:17

I think they are scarier than porcelain dolls, they are just dolls, no one would mistake them for anything else, reborn dolls are trying to look like a real baby.

And think how weird it will look when DSD is pushing her new baby around in a pram and you are with her pushing your doll.

reallywoundup · 23/09/2010 18:26

take up knitting instead, or join the WI- anything but playing with a freaky doll Grin

OR

Get a baby annabel- far cheaper and slightly less scary.

Pixel · 23/09/2010 18:52

My friend has one (it was bought for her - don't ask) and it is quite creepy, far too realistic. However she has a bit of a sick sense of humour and enjoys using it to freak people out. For instance she leaves it in the car seat (her stepdaughters like playing with it so sometimes take it out) and just chucks a blanket over it and walks off Grin.

Sorry, 'it' is a boy but I can't call it 'he' for some reason. Hmm

droves · 23/09/2010 19:17

lol , Grin .

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/09/2010 19:21

Nah, I think you've went mad too.

Grin

They are creepy and nasty and NOT REAL.

verytellytubby · 23/09/2010 19:34

They are so creepy. That programme was weird. Remind me of Chucky.

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2010 19:48

Honestly, that's just how it starts. You think it's quite cute, harmless, why not?

Then you name it because calling it it seems wrong.

Then you give the thing a middle name too because the mood strikes you.

Then you worry that it, sorry, Jezebel's clothes are looking a bit grubby and you should get a spare set. But then what if the spares become grubby. It's easier just to buy it, er, Jezebel Minx an entire wardrobe.

And Jezebel Minx can't sleep in a box, that's a bit odd. A little moses basket will do. But then if you're clearing out the loft, you may as well use the cot for it Jezebel. You know, while there's still wear in it.

Before you know it, you're rocking the mutant baby to sleep and shushing guests in case they wake her. Your social life is planned round it. You buy a second.

Just stop now. Take up flower arranging or photography or medieval reenactment. Now, before it's too late.

missmoopy · 23/09/2010 19:55

Hideous things. Really, don't do it.

juneybean · 23/09/2010 19:57

YANBU, if you want one, get one. They are a collectible item aimed at mature people not children.

HeftyNorks · 23/09/2010 20:00

If you want one then get one. I have to say that I don't especially like them but to have one which could represent my lovely little boy as a baby is tempting at tinmes (especially as he is now at age 7 in full on answering back mode Grin).

missmoopy · 23/09/2010 20:04

showofhands, that is my favourite MN post EVER.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/09/2010 20:05

Grin ShowOfHands.

The evil person inside me would like to have one just so I could leave it in view, in the car or take it out shopping at the supermarket and drop it in full view of others Grin

You want a hobby and to collect something, what about a big huge victorian type dollshouse, you can furnish it all out and put little carpets in, that would be quite cool..

Quite like that idea myself but it would probably cut into my drinking/clubbing money!

RamblingRosa · 23/09/2010 20:08

I thought the OP was joking but maybe not Confused

Has anyone ever seen someone in real life with one of those dolls? I remember seeing that programme and being totally creeped out by it. I sometimes notice them on Eastenders (cheaper/quieter/easier than getting a baby actor I guess?) and think how weird they look. So lifelike yet so unlifelike at the same time. Shudder.

wishfullme · 23/09/2010 20:10

get one if you want one! ive got one for my daughter for xmas and its very cute! all my family likes it and wants it! as long as you dont think its a baby then ur not going mad! lots of people have them!

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2010 20:14

Look, have you seen these?

RamblingRosa · 23/09/2010 20:17
ilovesprouts · 23/09/2010 20:18

they are really creepy you need to get out more Grin

deemented · 23/09/2010 20:19

They are fucking grim.

Remind me far too much of holding a lifeless baby.

loopyloops · 23/09/2010 20:20

please be joking, or a troll.

TotorosOcarina · 23/09/2010 20:22

snowofhands - actually nearly pmsl reading that.

personally they freak me out, like something out of a horror film! Although yep agreed would be worth it just to leave in car on hot day or drop in supermarket haha
