Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

Still can't believe 6 months of snow Shock

Impressed at your car repairs GoMummy. All this talk of ice hockey and skiing, my word, sounds like a different planet to chilly old Hertfordshire Smile

Nice to see you Elmo Smile Quiet here today, didn't do much apart from a small supermarket shop and deal with various toddler shenanigans, I'm not being very consistent with the DCs right now I don't think, nor as firm as I should be. Just feel emotionally wrung out and tired all the time Blush

Yesterday was nice, I took the DCs to a steam fair and popped in on one of my brothers for a cuppa. Friday night I went to the local firework display and got totally soaked through, as did the DCs, the rain was so heavy it leaked through their zips on their all in one waterproofs Grin DS didn't enjoy it at all. DD did until she was too cold and damp. Next year I shall be more prepared I think, so we can all enjoy it better.

GoMummy your package arrived and I gave it to my brother and his wife. You're very very sweet and lovely!

Listening to noisy fireworks outside whilst typing.

Hi Elmo, I was wondering where you'd got to! :)

Sounds good except for the yucky weather tea. What's a steam fair?

Gomummy we don't have mountains; there are a few places with ski hills but they're really expensive. I do like cross country skiing a lot though, and snowshoeing. :) Am actually going to have a good look on the computer right now, I need a new winter coat desperately.

Teaandcakeplease · 07/11/2010 21:36

It's just a fair powered by Traction Steam Engines, the rides are restored ones from many many years ago. Lovely.

CheerfulYank · 07/11/2010 21:48

Oh, I'm jealous, DS would love that!

Teaandcakeplease · 07/11/2010 21:50

The candy floss is one of DD's favourites as is the Carousel/ Gallopers

OP posts:
Teaandcakeplease · 07/11/2010 21:51

The candy floss you eat. The carousel you ride. Just realised my previous post may be confusing.

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 07/11/2010 21:55

Carousels we have, but I don't know about candy floss! Is it cotton candy? :) I will google and be back.

CheerfulYank · 07/11/2010 21:56

Yup, it's the same! :)

Teaandcakeplease · 07/11/2010 21:58

Mmmmm yummy! So gooooooooood Smile

I'm off to make some toast I think, I've been larking about on mumsnet since 6.15 pm when my DCs went to bed Shock How on Earth can I spend so long on here?

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 07/11/2010 22:06

I'm the same way. Mmmm, toast! I think I'll go home and make some too. I've been watching DVDs of the first season of All Creatures Great and Small, which just begs for toast and tea. :o

Tiredmumno1 · 07/11/2010 22:30

gomummygo · 07/11/2010 23:18

Yay Tea, I hope it made it in time to still be useful! :) Oooh DS would love the steam fair. Never heard of one but he would be so excited that he'd be absolutely shaking!

Welcome back Elmo, was wondering where you'd got to!

Cheerful I love All Creatures Great and Small! Was my first set of real novels as a child too, I'd get absolutely immersed in them.

Glad you are well Tiredmum, what have you been up to? You must be getting a bit round by now, lovely. Few things nicer than watching the bump grow. :)

Well I've got my vehicle fixed, had to get some parts though, so had to take DH's car to town for them, what a miserable snowy drive. I will be beginning my countdown to spring tomorrow I think, lol!

Tiredmumno1 · 07/11/2010 23:31

Awww thanks tea i always miss you lot

Gomummy, bump is growing, i forget i cant do things at normal pace now, especially not chasing the boys round the field. Ds1 keeps wanting me to play footie, and go in goal, i keep having to explain why i cant Grin

Havent been doing to much, we sorted the garden last week, took the gazebo down, picked the leaves up, just a general tidy up, ready for winter.

What have you been up to?

gomummygo · 07/11/2010 23:49

LOL @ DS wanting you to play in goal, Tiredmum!

We already have winter here it seems, have spent lots of time hunkered down baking & cooking up a storm, waiting for this snow to melt (which it isn't). Have also almost finished all of my Christmas shopping & prep. (Yes I am one of those! Grin)

Have you been working on a list of names for us yet?

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 00:58

:o at tiredmum the bump-y goalie! And yes do tell us when you have a name list! We missed you.

I love the books gomummy! I didn't even know it was a series until I was looking up the novels on Wikipedia one day. I ordered them from the library immediately. :) I am making winter preperations too, DH got two deer hunting so I sense a cold season filled with venison and potato stew ahead of us!

Hi tea! How're things at your end? I was just thinking about you earlier; I saw that old Emerson quote "What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us," and it reminded me of you, since you're one strong lady! :)

gomummygo · 09/11/2010 02:02

Oh the books are excellent Cheerful, I even had the little case Blush! I made a venison roast tonight, and congrats to your DH on his success, btw. My DH does not hunt but we trade my baking with some "neighbors" (they are almost an hour drive away and I know most don't consider that neighbors, lol!) for some venison and moose when they have success!

Lovely quote. Does suit you, Tea. Everyone feeling up to par in your household once again?

Grin
CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 16:06

Oooh, I just posted something in AIBU and it appears I am BU...glad I have the bench to turn to!

Will be back in a bit

elmofan · 09/11/2010 17:59

Hello I'm back Smile

Having a rough few days , first the PC crashed as we had a virus that i needed help to get it removed , then my bloody washing machine broke down in mid cycle with the dc's school uniforms trapped inside . Had to get a plumber in yesterday morning to replace the pump .
Have posted on your thread cheerful you are not being AIBU .

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 18:17

Thank you elmo! :) I think I could have gone about it in a better way, but I stand by my decision; the behaviour was not ok. Thanks for posting! :)

Ugh, our washer broke over the summer and it was hell until we fixed it. I never realized how much I used it before! :)

Am Envy of your Herriot book case gomummy! My dad always read the books to us when we were little and I was sooo thrilled to find the DVDs. Series 2 is on its way to me as we speak! :) (Er...type!)

gomummygo · 09/11/2010 18:28

Have (belated) posted on your thread Cheerful, but forgot to put in it YANBU! :)

Ugh Elmo that sounds like no fun. Why does the washing machine only break halfway through a cycle? Hmm

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 18:29

Thanks gomummy and tea for your lovely posts! I knew I could count on the Bench :)

Teaandcakeplease · 09/11/2010 18:51

Everyone is well again here - for now. Think DD may be getting a cold.

Cheerful when my marriage was disintegrating and I was coping with 2 toddlers under age 3, I was far worse and went off like a nuclear missle on rude behaviour and was very fierce with DD. I also struggle when I am due on, my PMT makes me like a bear with a sore head and I am far more likely to go bananas at one or other of them, depending on whose being dreadful. I'd really like to be more like Mary Poppins sometimes. However now the dust has settled and H and I have worked out an amicable co-parenting relationship and now I'm on Anti Depressants I am finding things easier. I find it too easy to have the urge to smack her bottom sometimes, just because it was what I was used to as a child. There are other ways though and I try and use those. I sometimes think I'm the only mum on mumsnet who has smacked her DD's bottom in the past Blush

OP posts:
gomummygo · 09/11/2010 20:20

Aw Tea, don't feel Blush, you aren't the first and I'm sure you won't be the last to have ever done so. Your DC are so v. fortunate that you have handled the situation so well!

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 21:53

Oh honey! I have spanked DS once and felt so incredibly horrible! I have raised my hand to do it quite a few times before because it's so ingrained in me. I use it as a teaching opportunity though and say, "No, I will not spank you. Hitting is not ok even when we are angry." I'm sure you are a lovely mum! (And that Mary Poppins was actually quite firm :)

Ds is sitting by me and is entranced with the smileys. So this is for him Angry That is his favorite for some reason.
Oh and he wants me to add Grin
