Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tired mum, Elmo, AF, HE, Cheesey and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

Blush I mis-read your post CY and thought you were gettin kinky with your DH Grin

Teaandcakeplease · 09/11/2010 21:58

There's a hullabaloo going on about whether creationism should be taught in schools anymore in the UK. I confess I find this laughable when top scientists are starting to think maybe there wasn't a big bang. Because really however it began it's all theory really isn't it? I have a faith and like to believe this amazing planet was made by God but Science doesn't have all the answers, it really doesn't. But trying not to get too embroiled in that thread Grin I'm not articulate enough really...

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2010 22:01

Yeah, those religion threads never get anywhere. I believe in God and Science both and that's good enough for me. :)

LOL mumcentre, I don't post those sorts of things! :o

Mumcentreplus · 09/11/2010 22:01

hahaha TeaandCake me too love, me too Grin

Mumcentreplus · 09/11/2010 22:02

Uh huh..LOL..

Teaandcakeplease · 09/11/2010 22:09

Me too Cheerful. Love Science but have a faith, confusing eh? Anyway all the anti religion people are appearing out of the woodwork, as someone mentioned how evolution isn't fact. So time to give up on that thread I think, as it'll probably get worse on there yet Smile

Interesting. I don't usually read the religion threads as it is hard not to get involved, but I find the schools stuff interesting as it seems quite different to here. Where I live there is absolutely no religion in public schools, and hasn't been for decades. Parents do have the option of paying their education taxes to a separate Catholic school board and their children attend Catholic schools with Catholic education (regardless of whether or not they are Catholic). There are no other faith schools except for very small, totally unfunded private schools, and they're quite rare. However, since Education is administered provincially, most of the provinces have totally different rules and systems!

gomummygo · 09/11/2010 23:30

Unsolicited advice to all: definitely hide other thread now if you haven't already.

Teaandcakeplease · 09/11/2010 23:32

Faith schools are more bias on teaching of course. Normal schools just talk about all faiths in RE lessons only. That thread may confuse you me thinks as it's gone a bit haywire Grin

Must go to bed, it's 11.30pm here Shock

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 10/11/2010 14:43

It's the same here, gomummy. We have quite a few religious schools but they are all private and all cost a lot of money. All public schools are secular.

gomummygo · 10/11/2010 15:47

I'd wondered that Cheerful. Do you also have the RE (assuming Religious Education) that Tea referred to? We don't, and I think that it would be such a good idea.

CheerfulYank · 10/11/2010 15:59

We don't either, and I think we should as well. So many of the US's citizens are so, forgive the term, ignorant about what other religions and cultures actually believe, and I think an RE course would go a long way toward relieving some prejudice.

gomummygo · 10/11/2010 17:57

I agree Cheerful. In addition to increasing tolerance through education, I just think it has to be a positive thing to have a basic understanding of at least the major world religions, given that they are such a powerful motivating force in the world. Imo of course.

On another educational note - are Montessori schools everywhere? What does everyone think of them? I quite like some of the concepts but they are insanely expensive here...

Teaandcakeplease · 10/11/2010 18:49

Christian schools here get Government funding btw, you do not have to pay. Of course there are private CofE schools too though. We also have Montessori's here and they're expensive but I love their concepts.

OP posts:
elmofan · 10/11/2010 18:49

DD went to a Montessori school gomummy & she loved it . It is very expensive here too , cost us ?80 per week for 5 mornings 9.15am -12.30pm.

gomummygo · 10/11/2010 20:39

That's interesting, Tea, and makes some other threads I've seen make more sense actually (could never really understand why anyone would be upset by the very existence of faith schools if they weren't using them, but makes more sense if they are funding them and don't believe/agree with concept).

Elmo that must have been great for DD! :)

Hiya tea Smile

Dreadful weather here today , gales are up to 140km an hour Shock

I survived an AIBU thread earlier lol .
Whats everyone up to today then ?

Teaandcakeplease · 11/11/2010 15:58

DS is being such a nightmare today and has ripped 3 books, fought with his sister by taking her things and laughing, pulled all the DVD/ Videos off the shelf, opened my drawers in the kitchen and pulled everything out and generally being completely boisterous. I think he has cabin fever but I need to clean up and cook dinner. I have some girls coming over tonight and need to sort the place out, so I've set up the playpen for my DS, which he hasn't been in for 8-9 months now Shock Although he doesn't seem to be minding being in there, so I suppose I should get off mumsnet and start cleaning Blush
