I've had enough. My wine consumption has gone to 2 bottles a night. I'm so sad and lonely but I need to stop. I've tried AA and hated it. It's the only thing that stops my mind but I know it will kill me.

Just need some support really, I have to do this or I know I will die :(

@Muppet11 keep going your doing so well. I've been taking a break from my phone and the Internet as that was what I would do when I was sat on the sofa drinking. I've planted some bulbs today and cooked a roast dinner. I did have a wobble and thought a glass of wine would be nice after dinner but it passed. I'm enjoying a horlicks in bed now.

Well done you!

Think I will buy some Horlicks today.

Slept okish, found it hard to nod off so read my book.

Going to see my mum today. Thank you all again, this thread is really helping.

Well done OP! I’m proud of you, and I don’t even know you. You’ve got courage, and you’re doing this.

you’ve had a lot of good advice in here so I won’t add any more. I just wanted to say, well done to you.

Well what a day!

My DH drinks a lot too, he moans at my drinking but think he secretly likes it because then he can.

We had a bit of an argument today and on his way home he asked if I wanted anything. I asked for a couple of things to eat and he said "is that it?"
when I replied "yes thank you" he kept saying "are you sure?"

I said yes I was sure.

When I went to the fridge in the garage (where we keep the drinks) he had bought a bottle of white wine ( which he doesn't drink) and a huge case of beers.

I picked out a nice Tripp CBD drink and ignored the alcohol!!!!

Tucked up in bed with a new book.

I know the danger zone will be in a few days when I'm feeling better. But really want to push through.

Thank you all so much for your support, it's really helping.

My brother in law was also alcohol dependent despite being a senior firefighter and it was my sister people referred to as the alcoholic. One time I went to stay with them and within hours of being in the house I could see what was going on. I kicked up a right fuss and called him all the cowards under the sun for hiding behind my sister. I even said do you hide behind other firefighters on the way I to a burning building. My sister died of cancer a few years ago and was still drinking at the time of her death. My brother in law had by that time not drank for about 3 years.

I hated him once I saw what was going on. He’d even say she was a worse alcoholic than him because she drank wine whereas he drank spirits. And he’d enable her in order to make himself look better. It was a horrible thing to see in action and I hope she’s haunting him.

That is so sad, I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️

He will drink in secret and he can hold his drink better. He used to wind me up when we were drinking and say nasty things. I would then explode and he would be "ah she's drunk too much!"

I don't do that anymore and I have gone several long spells not drinking. I don't think he has ever managed over 1 week.

I would binge eat every time I drank so I went on Mounjaro and have lost 100 lbs but ALSO stopped drinking it worked to control alcohol cravings as well. So grateful

Weepixie · 15/09/2025 14:27

@Muppet11 - all the very best to you going forward one day at a time. One hour at a time if need be. I’ve just spent a year on Mounjaro for my own addiction - food. It was difficult but I got there and I’m now weaning myself of the medication

Would something like Mounjaro help you with your cravings. I’ve heard it can be used for alcohol dependency as well as lots of other things.

Wishing you all the very best. 💐

Hohofortherobbers · 15/09/2025 18:38

Hope youre doing OK @Muppet11. When 's the interview, Wednesday?

My BMI is too low to get Mounjaro unfortunately.

All good thanks. Just got home from my mums and made a cup of Horlicks.

Yes, Wednesday, I already have so much anxiety but I will go. Another reason not to drink as I want to be fresh and clear headed.

Good on you 👏 enjoy your Horlicks. 😘

Icecreamhelps · 15/09/2025 21:55

Hi @Muppet11 I've been to my mums again. Spent the evening with her drinking tea and playing cards. It's been a long time since we've done that. I have a difficult relationship with my mum. She has schizo-affective disorder so we both been through a lot of trauma. I'm ashamed to admit I blocked a lot out by drinking, and my mum wasn't compliant with her meds so as you can imagine it was a bit of a shit storm. My mum is stable now and taking her medication and I'm no longer wallowing at the bottom of a wine bottle. It was just such a lovely evening no TV or social media. I'm in bed with my horlicks too, I've started taking magnesium bisglycinate not sure if it's a placebo but my sleep is better and the anxiety is lifting. I read about your DH putting wine in the fridge after you told him your plan to stop! My ex DH would encourage me to drink for his own ends. I'm not saying you should leave, however I do think you deserve support and not sabotage. All the best with your interview on Wednesday.

Hohofortherobbers · 15/09/2025 22:29

I take magnesium glycinate to improve my sleep too. You should try it @Muppet11
Apparently its important to get the glycinate version, the bog standard magnesium supplement isn't meant to be as effective.
It can loosen the bowels a bit though Blush

SliceofTosst · 15/09/2025 22:46

Well done OP. Another hangover free fresh morning ahead. Hopefully a better sleep.

dotdotdotdash · 15/09/2025 23:02

Just a quick well done from me OP for another sober day. Some of the anxiety will be down to the drinking and will lift.

Appalonia · 15/09/2025 23:14

Annie Grace is currently doing a live 5 day Autumn reset challenge on Facebook.
With replays you can watch for a while. It only started today so it's not too late to join. I think it would really help you, There's lot of pp struggling with the same thing and a lot of support there.

summitfever · 15/09/2025 23:37

Big £3 tub of magnesium and zinc from home bargains knocks me clean out!

I'm so sorry about your relationship with your mum. That must have been very hard. Glad that things are improving, no wonder you would drink.
I had another weird night, crazy dreams. I set my alarm but slept through it.
I have ordered some magnesium so hopefully that will help.

Yes, the relationship with my DH is very complicated but not something I can address at the moment . At least I can see what he is doing now so that's a start.

Well done on making a good start. Good luck with your interview. Re the train fares you could look at it that the money you would have spent on alcohol is paying them and you are working for money for other things. Hopefully this is the job to get your confidence back.

I had a look today and it said that registration is closed. But will sign up for the next one.

I have ordered a book from SMART recovery and will look into all the other wonderful suggestions on here.

Interview is tomorrow, I'm so worried because of my sleeping and I have booked a blow dry for tomorrow morning so hoping I can get up in time 😬.

Worried about later in the week as I'm feeling so much better. That's when the danger time is, when I think "oh I can just have a few drinks".

Going to try and keep myself busy and take it day by day. Not thinking that this is forever but today I will not drink. I think this last bout of drinking really frightened me because it took such a hold. I realise there are two paths ahead and the drinking path terrifies me.

Sorry for the ramble and thank you all again for your support. @Icecreamhelps you are doing so well ❤️

My danger zone was always Friday night. I used Goodrays cbd drinks as a sub, I see you have similar. Have you any family that have small kids you could offer to babysit? Designated driver for something? Just make sure your evenings are filled/busy and you’ll soon see AF nights are so much more restful and nice 😊

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/09/2025 12:43

Remind yourself that the reason you're feeling so much better is BECAUSE you haven't been drinking and the moment you do, you'll have slid down the snake right back to square one. Is that drink really worth it??

Hellogoodbyehowdoyoudo · 16/09/2025 13:04

You are doing amazing. What day are you on now?

You are far stronger than you think.

Hohofortherobbers · 16/09/2025 13:49

The first weekend was tough for me. But the craving only lasted a couple of hours for me. Between 5pm-7pm I kept v busy and distracted. Shower, in PJs so I can't go to the shops. Lovely drink of something special, like elderflower and sparkling water so it feels like a treat. AF Heineken 0% is good too if you like lager. You'll be over the worst by 7pm I bet. Hold firm.
Good luck for tomorrow. Don't worry about not sleeping well tonight, you'll perform better tomorrow just by being sober the night before, regardless of number of hours sleep you get

Yes that's a great idea regarding train fares, that will help keeping me off the wine. Thank you
