Just that really. Trying to stop drinking during the week as the summer comes to a close but......just what do I have in the evening to look forward to? I HATE baths btw. Hit me with some of your best suggestions to break this cycle please

A Nosecco (the alcohol free Prosecco)

start watching a series and only watch 1 episode per night

a hot chocolate

buy some very expensive or delicious chocolates you wouldn’t normally and have 2/3 a night

what was a treat to you before you were old enough to drink?

ShaunaSadeki · 26/08/2025 20:36

Would you replace with another drink? Or are you thinking of a ritual/activity? I like Goodrays CBD drinks in a lovely glass with ice. They relax me and still feel like that end of day treat

Ally256 · 26/08/2025 20:36

There are so many nice non-alcoholic drinks now! I bulk buy cans like Dash water, kombucha etc and have one cold out the fridge once the kids are in bed. Cracking the can feels like a nice treat!

mathanxiety · 26/08/2025 20:39

Fizzy water.
Reading.
Crochet.

scrivette · 26/08/2025 20:40

A decent, creamy hot chocolate and a book.

CoffeeWithHer · 26/08/2025 20:41

I’ve been having a nightly TRIP drink and I’ve now filled the fridge with all the flavors 😅

If you’re looking to fill your time, maybe start a skincare routine/ face yoga regime? I should take my own advice [rubs flakey mascara off my lashes as I type]

A nightly walk around the block? Gets the steps up and gets my head out the snack drawer!

Lottapianos · 26/08/2025 20:42

All great suggestions. I would add - don't expect any of them to be THE SAME as your glass of wine. You'll only be disappointed. Focus instead on how good you will feel with a clear head and a good night's sleep under your belt in the morning.

MyDeepAquaMentor · 26/08/2025 20:42

Im loving these responses thank you!! I've never heard of CBD drinks and Dask water so ill definitely be looking into those. Hot chocolate and my own stash of special treat chocolate also sounds like a winner!

Lime cordial with fizzy water and ice

Rubicon lychee fizzy drink

Gameofmoans81 · 26/08/2025 20:45

I’ve found sentia spirit gives me the relaxing feel of a glass of wine - whether that’s all in my head or not I don’t know but it works! It’s expensive but worth my health I think. after years and years of drinking daily this is the first thing that has stopped me

AMemoryCalledEmpire · 26/08/2025 20:45

+1 for fizzy water and a good TV series

DoRayMeMeMe · 26/08/2025 20:46

Nojito,
Gone and Tonic (Fancy tonic with something refreshing: cucumber , mint, lime or lemon zest)

doubleshotcappuccino · 26/08/2025 20:48

Liquorice tea - sounds gross but is bliss ! Sometimes the one with peppermint whatever is on offer I’m not fancy x

MyDeepAquaMentor · 26/08/2025 20:48

Ok, im so looking forward to the clear head feeling in the morning already. Ill go shopping for a few of these ideas tomorrow. Must also look up a few good series on netflix. In fact everyone has been talking about YellowStone, ill get on that.

I've got a can of alcohol free G&T tonight with loads of ice. It's really good.

Sleepness · 26/08/2025 20:49

For years I was anti the alcohol free substitutes, thinking what's the point, but this summer I have discovered Lidl alcohol free beer and it's actually really good, and does have that same initial feeling as settling down with a real drink.

If it's about a distraction or something to replace the drink, have you ever wanted to learn something? Crochet, drawing, piano, calligraphy?

VerbenaGirl · 26/08/2025 20:49

LA Brewery Citrus Hops Kombucher or Hotel Chocolat dark hot chocolate when it’s chilly. Both give the same ahhh as a glass of wine.

pinkbackground · 26/08/2025 20:50

Nosecco
alcohol free lager

Growlybear83 · 26/08/2025 20:56

My nightly treat is a curly wurly. I look forward to it from mid afternoon every day 😆😆

Growlybear83 · 26/08/2025 20:58

My husband stopped drinking a couple of years ago and he really likes the McGuigans alcohol free wine. I like some of the brands of bitter that he buys and can’t tell some of them from real beer. Alcohol free Guinness is quite nice too.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 26/08/2025 20:58

I have had a recommendation for a drink called Mother Root - it's basically a ginger drink. You have it like a spirit mixed with tonic water or sparkling water or those Dash drinks.

However, it's about £30 a bottle so I found out there's a drink I can make quite simply, called Ginger Switchel - it's on BBC Good Food I think.
It's ginger root chopped up, steeped with water, ACV, lemon juice, and honey or similar, blended, strained, stored in Kellner jar or similar.
Really nice as nightly drink with sparkling water over ice.

limetrees32 · 26/08/2025 21:09

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere that sounds fab!
When I first stopped drinking alcohol I quite often drank bottles of Supermalt.

Bit weird maybe. But I liked it.

waltzingparrot · 26/08/2025 21:11

I'm loving the Thatchers zero cider.

bookwormcrazy · 26/08/2025 21:12

I second Goodray CBD drinks. They have some lovely flavours and will quite happily have a couple of those instead of a couple of glasses of wine.

Sheldonslovechild · 26/08/2025 21:14

I've also quit during the week (only 2 weeks ago) but I'm having a alcohol free beer and occupying myself with doing some diamond art. I've never been into crafty stuff but it's amazing at allowing my anxiety full head to have a break.
