Just that really. Trying to stop drinking during the week as the summer comes to a close but......just what do I have in the evening to look forward to? I HATE baths btw. Hit me with some of your best suggestions to break this cycle please

I second mother root. It has cider vinegar in it as well. motherroot.com/

MyDeepAquaMentor · 26/08/2025 23:10

Thanks everyone. Had a massive Starbucks (homemade) hot chocolate, a couple of squares of fruit and nut and episode 1 of YellowStone....looking forward to wakening with clarity tomorrow. Im definitely looking into another few of those suggestions too. Thanks again 😴

Dash water - grapefruit is really nice and a pack of quavers!

The zero rose in Sainsbury’s is actulky quite easy to drink and I can sit and have a few glasses and feel like I’ve had my wine.. I’m not a fan of trip, I tried mother root, tried a few zero beers, but I’d say grab some wines.

they are also £3.50 not upwards of £8+ so you’ll also be savings.

Ok, im so looking forward to the clear head feeling in the morning already. Ill go shopping for a few of these ideas tomorrow. Must also look up a few good series on netflix. In fact everyone has been talking about YellowStone, ill get on that.

Apple TV you can get a free trial, slow horses, ted lasso and the Moring show are all great distractions. And good luck I’ve been pretty much booze free since the end of June. I’ve had maybe 6 wines at the pub since then and fell so much better and lost weight.

I like the Nescafé Mocha sachets. They don't have hardly any caffeine in but are satisfying enough that I don't want anything else afterwards.

Walkerzoo · 26/08/2025 23:47

These sound yummy. Going to follow this thread

Would you replace with another drink? Or are you thinking of a ritual/activity? I like Goodrays CBD drinks in a lovely glass with ice. They relax me and still feel like that end of day treat

I was going to say, a can of Trip.

All great suggestions. I would add - don't expect any of them to be THE SAME as your glass of wine. You'll only be disappointed. Focus instead on how good you will feel with a clear head and a good night's sleep under your belt in the morning.

I agree with this. I have started trying out various alcohol free drinks as my alcohol consumption was creeping up rather uncomfortably. I am also experiencing pain in my hands which I'm not sure if gout or arthritis, seeing the gp next week so will hopefully find out more then.

Anyway, some nice drinks that don't make me feel like I am missing out, and I am loving the clear head every morning.

I will say I don't know if these are suitable for anyone who has serious issues with alcohol and I apologise if they aren't

Fevertree zero alcohol spritz are very nice over ice with a slice of orange
Clean Co Rhubarb non gin, but that has mixed reviews online.
Gordons pink alcohol free pink gin. Very close to their alcoholic version.
Martini vibrante and floreale. I prefer the latter one but Sainsburys don't sell it so I have the former. It's nice to use in a non alcoholic negroni, or as a non gin and tonic with a slice of orange.
Now 'wines', I've only just started trying them again. I had one years ago and it was awful! But Kylies pink fizz is delicious and one I'm planning on getting for Christmas celebrating. I've ordered her white fizz one but not tried it yet.
Mcguigans zero rose is very nice too.
Other white 'wines' have not hit the mark for me. I love Chardonnay and the ones I've tried are a bit too acidic. I have some low or zero red too, Sainsburys I think, which I've yet to try.

DH and my dd really rate Inches zero alcohol cider.

Yet to try is the Tanquary zero gin but have heard good things.

Trip drinks are brilliant as they actually relax you because of the CBD. And taste lovely and are a treat. Pretty in fridge too!

MsSmartShoes · 27/08/2025 02:05

Apple juice with sparking water in a wine glass.

Mumofyellows · 27/08/2025 04:21

Lime and Soda water with ice.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/08/2025 04:36

I second/third/fourth Trip drinks.
Alcohol free Gordon's G&T in a can tastes like the real thing so does Becks Blue.
Sipsmith drinks are good too, though perhaps too good as I felt rather merry after a few - most likely the placebo effect.
Fruit juice & sparkling water is nice too.
Or proper Coke in a champagne flute with ice & lemon does a trick.

Edited to add: personally I think Nosecco tastes disgusting
And watch a good series on Netflix, Amazon Prime or similar.
I've just finished 'Why Women Kill' free on U
Now watching 'Wednesday' on Netflix

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/08/2025 05:57

LA Brewery Kombucha.

PrincessofLiechtenstein · 27/08/2025 14:24

The Free Spirit drinks are also good. I enjoyed the nightcap one before bed as it has herbs in it make you sleepy and tastes quite grown up.

Something like giving yourself an at home facial. Painting nails/toe nails to occupy hands. Take up knitting/crossstich/sewing

thebigyearahead · 27/08/2025 14:35

I love Tanquery alcohol free gin, made up as a G&T

Trotula · 27/08/2025 14:58

Ive been where you are and thought I would really miss my glass of wine or G&T before dinner but it turns out it’s the down time before dinner that I need!
Ginger beer with a wedge of fresh lime
Belvoir or Bottlegreen cordial esp ginger with sparkling water
Fruit juice with sparkling water esp pink grapefruit
Alcohol free lager or beer - always order this in a pub as I enjoy the taste and am not that much of a connoisseur to even notice the difference
Not keen on the AF versions of wine Prosecco or gin and almost made me want the real thing!
Bitter lemon
Serve drinks in a nice glass and garnish with ice and mint or fruit etc.
Another advantage of no alcohol is not craving the crisps, nuts and snacks that go so well together.
Ive also found eating slightly earlier works better too and having some fruit or a few squares of chocolate after eating helps!
Good luck!

StiffAsAVicar · 27/08/2025 15:22

Each night I REALLY look forward to a big glass of this white grape & peach drink from Sainsbury’s mixed with sparkling water and lots of ice 🧊 it’s Heavenly 🤤

It has fantastic reviews, many people saying it’s the best squash they’ve had and I wholeheartedly agree 😁

What do I replace my nightly glass of wine with?
ClassicalQueen · 27/08/2025 15:26

I find either a nice hot drink or something like an appletiser feels just as good. 8 months sober here.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 27/08/2025 15:28

Decaf coffee. I always find coffee a cosy treat, so would savour this as much as alcohol.

Or, a good non-alcohol beer.

Finding the union of a TV series called 'Why women kill' on a thread with this topic mildly amusing.

mugglewump · 27/08/2025 15:34

I drink herbal and fruit teas. Non alcoholic versions of drinks always make me feel like I am missing something! I also like a lime and soda, and also mint and lime cordial.

GiddyDog · 27/08/2025 15:37

@Growlybear83 which Mcguigans does he get? I bought one of their alcohol free white wines and it smelled exactly like a fresh newborn pooey nappy. I couldn't even bring myself to taste it and it went down the sink! Wondering if the red is better.
