Lots of great suggestions here (I have subscriptions for Trip and Dash).

A word of warning re things like hot chocolate tho...I went sober for 100 days this year, starting on 1st January. I swapped wine for luxury hot chocolates, or chocolate and sweet stuff as my almost-nightly treat...and am now pre-diabetic! I hadn't gained any weight, and thought I was being much more healthy...I'm sure you lot aren't as stupid as me though 🤣

Well here we are 2 weeks later and I did have a few drinks last weekend but managed to abstain during the two weeks. Its funny, as much as drinking alcohol seemed to be a habit, not drinking during the week is slowly becoming the norm. I feel so much more on the ball while at my job.....feels like I was only operating at 30% previously. The clarity is changing how little effort it takes me to perform in my job. All round the benefits have far out weighed the relaxation I achieved from the nightly wine. Thanks everyone for all your wonderful suggestions....they are keeping me going 🫖

Rub gin around the rim of a nice glass and fill with tonic, ice and lime. You get the vibe of a G&T.

Greysowhat · 04/09/2025 20:10

Some edibles !

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/09/2025 20:15

I see you've had success, here a few more suggestions:

I've just bought new one - Miue in red and white - both lovely. G Spot drinks - I love the ginger one. And for a special occasion cocktail, Wild Idol, Coastal Pentire, Rhubarb and Raspberry tonic and mint/ice. Gorgeous.

I recommend the Trip drinks, I subscribe and get them on offer. Delivered 1x a month. Works out cheaper too.

I also recommend Dr Stuart's Teas - Liver Detox, valerian plus (I get vivid dreams though!) and Tranquility.

Trip drinks are brilliant as they actually relax you because of the CBD. And taste lovely and are a treat. Pretty in fridge too!

Yep.. another massive vote for Trip. Any flavour is nice but I especially like the basil and mint one. One or two cans usually.
Waitrose have them on offer often or you can subscribe for discounts.
I went booze free Jan- July and I swear Trip was my saviour!
(Fell off the wagon on August holiday but have started back on its been a few days now).
Good luck!

Fair play to you, falling off but dusting yourself down and getting on it again, amazing. Well done you 👏

Well-done- this is great.
I absolutely found the same - not just with work but just being on top of 'life' generally- more present calmer with kids, more positive outlook. Unfortunately for me I really have to completely cut out as if I drink at the weekend I will just end up drinking in the week. But if you can just keep it to weekends moving forwards that is great!

I think it's easy to do.
I ate a huge amount of sweet stuff and chocolate when I gave up drinking. Have you managed to cut it down/out now? I worry I'll do the same giving up again... !

Newsenmum · 04/09/2025 21:23

Do you like herbal teas? A really nice one and some dark chocolate (although that may keep you awake, so depends what you like).

thelovelyview · 04/09/2025 21:41

Just stop drinking for 3 weeks and you’ll forget all about it.

Rainbowdays123 · 04/09/2025 21:43

Seedlip and tonic is my go to

I had my bloods done in March and my HBa1C was 43, so only one point over the threshold for pre-diabetes, but was put on the National NHS Diabetes Prevention course. So I've been attending fortnightly in-person sessions and getting weighed (my BMI is 27). Most of the course is really basic stuff I already knew. Now dropping to monthly sessions until Feb, when they'll re-do my bloods. I've only lost 2kgs since April but it's my fault as not trying very hard (suffered a bereavement over the summer which has hit hard, so been comfort eating). Will get back on track soon, though it's hard to quit alcohol and my sweet treats at the same time...

mamagogo1 · 04/09/2025 21:49

I like a mug of the chamomile, vanilla and licorice tea from pukka

Xiaoxiong · 04/09/2025 21:55

We have a huge selection of all sorts of Chinese and herbal teas in the cupboard, and choose a different one to try most nights - one teabag in a 2 cup pot between me and DH is just right.

My husband stopped drinking a couple of years ago and he really likes the McGuigans alcohol free wine. I like some of the brands of bitter that he buys and can’t tell some of them from real beer. Alcohol free Guinness is quite nice too.

Yes I second the zero Guinness

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/09/2025 22:03

I used to drink sparkling wine every weekend and it was a problem for me. I went cold turkey and drank Perrier instead. It was difficult, a few hiccups, but I conquered it. Wishing you luck.

eta: no pun intended! 😂

TheGreatWesternShrew · 04/09/2025 22:03

I drink my favourite soft drinks. At the moment it’s South American lemonade - basically fresh, still lemonade made extremely sour. Fantastic
