Staring tomorrow. Successfully did sober October last year and drank on November 1st and have done almost every day since.

Determined to make this my starting point again - anyone want to join here for mutual support?

Also any recommendations for podcasts to listen to for starting short bursts sober journeys welcome

@Thornrose I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that regarding going out for walks. I've been known to put moisturiser on my face - I never put make up on top of moisturiser and I wouldn't go out without make up !
Had a tough day too but I didn't think about drinking because I know from experience, it wouldn't change the day and it would just make tomorrow harder

It's good to know I do learn.
I'm in bed with my dog, a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows, some biscuits and I'm putting today behind me.
Keep going, folks- you're all doing really well.

Wow! I’m not looking to give up, just a reset. Do you live with someone that does drink?

Sorry was that in reply to me? If so, I do yes 😊

PeacheyPeach · 04/10/2023 00:55

Another day done folks 😃

Amdone123 · 04/10/2023 06:30

Yep, day 4. Going well here really. I think the miserable weather is to my advantage as it definitely lends itself to hot chocolate rather than you - know - what.
I don't envisage today being a problem. Lots to do, and being on this thread is a great help.

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/10/2023 07:16

Morning all. Slept so well last night. Day 5 ahead of me.😁1800 calories saved so far!

Thornrose · 04/10/2023 07:52

@Amdone123 whatever works 😉

Hump day, feeling very positive today. I'm sleeping really well and struggling to wake up with the alarm!

Going to walk to work today and leave the car at home. Sprint past those shops!

We've got this...

Thefacethatlaunchedathousandchips · 04/10/2023 16:04

Hello 👋

Day 4 (almost) done and I am very glad to be over the hump this week.

Counting down the days till half term (I only work term time).

Feeling OK but I've got a bit of a cold and probably some pms, so not in the best of moods and I'm craving sweets. Not unusual when I'm a bit under the weather

againmaeve · 04/10/2023 16:27

Going okay here - the first real test will be Friday...

Amdone123 · 04/10/2023 17:15

@Thefacethatlaunchedathousandchips I had a family sized aero after lunch - I sent my son for it. They do come in useful.
Hope you're feeling better soon.
@againmaeve I'm wobbling really. Weekend will be a test for me, too. It's a confidence thing with me. I don't have any physical cravings though I do miss it, sometimes. I know it's rubbish for me though.
Day 4 over, so I am doing OK.
I really want to see it through.

InOtherWords · 04/10/2023 18:55

DH has just surprised me with dinner reservations for tonight .... 😬 . Was expecting to have to wait till the weekend till my first proper test.
Here goes....

PeacheyPeach · 04/10/2023 19:39

Hey all 🤗
Wow I've got a wicked headache today, think it may be all the toxins making their way out!? Anyone else feel like this, actually feels like a hangover headache 😞

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/10/2023 19:44

Good luck @InOtherWords this is when 0% can help. Anyone recommend a good AF wine? Beers are pretty good.
Day 5 done here and I feel really good. Skin looks less tired and I’m sure I’m less bloated. I’ve always been slim but over the last year I’ve put on about 10lbs. Only change is menopause and increase in drinking. I eat really healthily and should t put on weight on my diet but had some kind of mental block about alcohol calories. But realising that actually without the booze I may lose weight. 😀Here’s hoping!

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/10/2023 19:57

Hope your headache lifts @PeacheyPeach

Thornrose · 04/10/2023 21:03

@PeacheyPeach yep, horrible detox headache for me too. I feel quite irritable and a bit anxious too.

But it's making me all the more determined.

PeacheyPeach · 04/10/2023 22:23

@43ontherocksporfavor Ive never drank Af wine but I think the AF freixenet is meant to be really nice
@Thornrose sorry to hear you're feeling the same as me, 😢 I'm hoping that it's gone by tomorrow

PeacheyPeach · 04/10/2023 22:25

@InOtherWords how did you get on, did you have a nice dinner ??
It's funny I can go out for lunch and would never dream of having a drink I always order sparkling water, but have a completely different mind set for evening meals 😄

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/10/2023 22:49

Thanks @PeacheyPeach

InOtherWords · 04/10/2023 22:55

I'm back, had a very lovely evening and managed to not drink the delicious wine DH was having! (Knowing I was going to have to come back here and update helped, so thank you)

The AF choice was rubbish: lager or soft drinks, so I had rather dull elderflower. Isn't it funny that if I'm drinking wine I'm always thirsty, but was able to make a single soft drink last most of the evening 😬.

42 I've tried all the AF wines over the past couple of years and they are all disgusting. Red ones taste like squash and white are sickly sweet. I don't mind a 0% lager, or one of the 0% fizzes.

Day 4 done ✅

That should have been 43 sorry - am on the app and can't edit or switch back to see usernames.

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/10/2023 08:01

Well done @InOtherWords you were very strong 💪🏻.
I like fizz so thanks , will investigate. Just like to have a back-up. Part of my enjoyment of drinking is the ritual, the glass, the grown up drink. For example I can easily say no to a plastic cup of wine, just doesn’t appeal.
Could not sleep last night, had to take a Nytol herbal. Love the feeling when it kicks in.

InOtherWords · 05/10/2023 08:52

Thanks @43ontherocksporfavor
Nosecco is quite nice (in relative terms 😄) and cheaper than Prosecco.

I like the enjoyment of pouring an entire still drink from a bottle. For some reason having to pour cordial and then add water to it annoys me 😆 .
I'm on a quest to find such a drink and have been for a while.

Happy Thursday everyone.

PeacheyPeach · 05/10/2023 14:53

Hi everyone hope your all ok 💖
@43ontherocksporfavor I know what you mean about a nice glass of something over a plastic cup!
We got bought some garden plates and plastic glasses a few years ago and I've never used the glasses, I can't stand the feeling!!!
But a nice glass with ice and Tonic water is a good alternative as well, feels like an adult drink I think!

LostThestral · 05/10/2023 14:57

Day 11 for me, during the week is easy but weekends I find really really hard.

Need a nice alcohol free wine - Nosecco tastes too perfumey for my taste

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/10/2023 16:10

A few options to try thanks.
6 days done after tonight and the thought of Friday is looming. Felt my first twitch about Friday/end of busy week/ reward wine feeling. Luckily I’m out for a meal with friends who will drive tomorrow otherwise I could be in danger…

Thornrose · 05/10/2023 20:44

I'm going to struggle at the weekend. It's that feeling of "reward." But...I'm determined not to fail.

This thread is really helping me hold myself accountable.
