Staring tomorrow. Successfully did sober October last year and drank on November 1st and have done almost every day since.

Determined to make this my starting point again - anyone want to join here for mutual support?

Also any recommendations for podcasts to listen to for starting short bursts sober journeys welcome

@Amdone123 I hear you. This is tougher than I thought and opened my eyes.

I hope you find the support you need.

PeacheyPeach · 08/10/2023 14:27

@Amdone123 please don't beat yourself up about it, it is a hard habit to break, and even just having a few days can be a good reset for you 😍

For me although my sleep is still off it's been good to wake up not having that slight nauseous feeling or with a banging head that I always have on a Sunday 😩

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/10/2023 18:53

A whole weekend done. Are we all still hanging in, it’s a bit quiet on here!

madmumofteens · 08/10/2023 19:46

Yay managed a night out last night but went home after the meal as one of my friends kept badgering me to just have a drink and proceeded to tell everyone I wasn't drinking as if I had the plague or something!! Put me off going out she was same last time I went out and chose not to drink 🥺 anyone else have this?

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/10/2023 20:18

Well done @madmumofteens. Haven’t had this but I would think it’s about how she feels about her drinking. I feel quite strong now a whole weekend is under my belt. This week will be fine but will get more AF options for next weekend.

madmumofteens · 08/10/2023 20:32

Thank you @43ontherocksporfavor** you could be right just it's hard enough as it is!! I was drinking Peroni zero and I like thatchers zero cider and nozecco is quite pleasant too!! Hey good luck to everyone this week that's £8 in my money tin for this week I will treat myself at the end of the month 😊

Edited

I've been sobre since the end of December. I think m and s do the best af options.

PeacheyPeach · 08/10/2023 21:14

Hey all
8 days today, made up with myself!! For those of you who've actually gone out and socialized aswell how amazing are you, I've been a bit of a hermit but needed to get this first week out of the way!
@madmumofteens sometimes people can be really annoying can't they! I mean why does it end up becoming such a big deal that you aren't having a drink, it upsets me to think that maybe I've been like this in the past with friends who aren't having a drink 😔 all shocked and fuming that they aren't having a drink with me.
Do you think it's just this country were we put so much emphasis on drinking to have a good time?

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/10/2023 21:25

I agree. It’s so part of the culture and I do enjoy it. Been a bit of a revelation that I’ve willingly gone into pubs and not had a proper drink. Thanks for M&S recommendations, will try.

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/10/2023 21:26

@coodawoodashooda how do you feel after so long?

againmaeve · 08/10/2023 21:52

Well done everyone. I got through the weekend including a sunny pub garden visit today.

Thornrose · 09/10/2023 08:00

Wow, we've done well. And yes, especially those brave enough to go out.

Like @PeacheyPeach I've been a hermit just to get through.

One week done...whoop whoop.

43ontherocksporfavor · 09/10/2023 18:29

Day 10 done! 😀

InOtherWords · 09/10/2023 19:03

Does anyone have any suggestions for a non-fizzy AF drink that can be drunk at room temperature? I've tried letting my elderflower cordial "get warm" but it's not quite the same!
(Basically looking for something I can open and pour instead of red wine.)

43ontherocksporfavor · 09/10/2023 19:22

Could you mull some AF red wine? Might taste better with some spices added .

PeacheyPeach · 09/10/2023 19:59

Hey all hope you're having a good Monday 😊
Another day down we are awesome 👍
I can't think of any still AF drinks that aren't just the usual lager, wines etc @InOtherWords but maybe @43ontherocksporfavor suggestion of making a mulled AF red wine might work, I'm sure there are organic style drinks on the market now though

InOtherWords · 09/10/2023 22:29

Thanks @43ontherocksporfavor but I'm not a massive mulled wine fan. I'll have to get my thinking cap on.

Day 9 ✔️

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/10/2023 21:26

@coodawoodashooda how do you feel after so long?

I feel fine. Its given me the opportunity to see different parts of my life that need addressed. I didn't touch any af drinks until about April. Now I'll happily enjoy af wine or a free g and t. I like the wine glass moment. I had planned on drinking again in December but don't expect to. I love never worrying about driving. I also love going to bed earlier. The house is the most decluttered it has ever been. I'm a single parent with young kids. I definitely feel as though this is a better way for all of us. For now anyway

Thornrose · 10/10/2023 07:50

Second week and I can already feel my mindset changing. No cravings, way less time ruminating about wine!

After this 4 weeks I'm going to stop drinking completely when home alone and week days. So social drinking only, which was never an issue as I don't like getting drunk when I'm out ironically!

This was the reset I badly needed so thanks everyone.

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/10/2023 07:59

That’s great @coodawoodashooda . I feel the same @Thornrose . Not really thinking about it this week. Loving all the things @coodawoodashooda said too. Not sure what I want the end game to be. DH and I do enjoy a drink at home together at the weekend. Used to only drink F, S and S. Maybe cut that back even further to pick just 1 or 2 of those days or just keep to occasions. Day 11.

againmaeve · 10/10/2023 08:03

I am not sure what I want the end game to be either but know I want to use this as a major reset - for health and financial reasons. Have a good day all.

I haven't heard anyone say that but I think it too. I hate drinking when I'm out. Just seems like a difficult hassle.

PeacheyPeach · 10/10/2023 15:31

Hi all, 9 days today, longest ive been AF for a good while, feeling good 😊
For me personally I've really needed this reset, and I feel so much better for not drinking.
I really hope that I can stick to only drinking in social settings ( and that's if I fancy it, it doesn't have to be a given that I need to drink on evenings out!)
But I really want to knock the drinking in the house on the head,

Thornrose · 10/10/2023 17:45

9 days for me too @PeacheyPeach 😁

@coodawoodashooda I can't totally rekax into drinking when out as I'm thinking about getting home etc. I feel more self conscious about appearing drunk too I guess.

Is anyone else feeling really tired? My whole body feels tired but sort of in a nice way, relaxed almost.

I'm going to bed early and sleeping right through and still struggling to wake up.

Could be a coincidence of course.

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/10/2023 18:32

I’m feeling good, not tired really @Thornrose but I am sleeping really well. Definitely seeing skin improvement. I look better first thing in the morning and definitely feel my stomach flattening. Long may it continue.
