New thread for those of us attempting Dry January.

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 13/01/2022 22:12

IJustLovePirates that's almost precisely what I'm going for, so pleased to hear it's actually the basis for one of the books Smile
Saturday night will be date night (no going out for us, as previously mentioned) so will enjoy some drinks. Other nights will be dry unless I've got something on, eg couple of beers with the football, glass of wine if I meet a friend, etc but v moderate.

Was interviewing until 9pm tonight: would normally LOVE a G&T after that but found the idea quite off-putting, which is a whole new experience for me Grin but a positive one.

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 13/01/2022 22:24
@Ijustneedtosleep21 good for you for taking the plunge. Do you mind me asking what they've put you on?
I went on some on anti-depressants after my breakdown, full dose, citalopram. Went to half dose in the summer (as time went on, plus they buggered my sleep) and hoping to come off them this year.
It will take a few weeks for them to get into your system, but everything crossed for you they make a difference. Very good timing with DJ!
I'm on Sertraline, gave me an awful bad stomach the first day but seems to be ok so far 3 days in on half a tablet a day.

I have previously taken citalopram after I had a bad accident and develops depression. I weaned off after 6 months by just taking half the dose for a while then quarter and I felt fine once I had stopped x

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 13/01/2022 22:25

Day 11 ✅ need to try and stop the sugar binges though. I have done a lot more exercise and walking with my new energy/non grogginess

JaquiRussell · 13/01/2022 22:38

I too thought my skin was looking really good this week. Taken my make off every night, added my night cream etc. But today horrid dry skin on my nose, feel like a peeling snake. Gutting.
Day 14 tomorrow, feeling proud but luckily not had any social events yet. So able to do this in secret which I think feels easier 🤷🏻‍♀️

PromisesMeanNothingSue · 14/01/2022 07:25

Checking in on new thread. Day 75 for me.

IJustLovePirates · 14/01/2022 07:44

@MyGhastIsFlabbered

I'm sure we can middle through February together whether we're fully AF or just moderating...and please stay *@trydry22*
I think that’s a lovely idea that we all stick together, but worried that those of us who would be moderating might be a bad influence on those going completely AF in Feb?

Im a bit tense. It’s 6.40pm for me on a Friday and OH is drinking. Might be an early night and some hot chocolate.

NorthernChinchilla · 14/01/2022 08:08

I find that the weather affects my skin; I know when it's the first day of proper autumn as my lips start peeling. So I reckon everyone suddenly getting bad skin is down to it suddenly turning cold (and if you're all Australian MNetters then ignore me Grin)

Hopefully the Sertraline will settle into your system Sleep; weirdly I projectile vomited the first day of Citalopram too... hopefully I'll find weaning off easy like you.

We're perilously close to the halfway mark now folks, a real achievement Smile

MajorityofThree · 14/01/2022 09:01

Two weeks if today goes well and I've no reason to think it won't. Two weeks in and I think the main benefit is sleep (huge) and no 3am waking. I'm much calmer about everything too.
Hoping to get to end of Jan and then just stick to Saturdays but we'll see.
Covid has reared its head in the house but only one of us positive so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way

DeedIDo · 14/01/2022 09:27

Day 14. Keeping busy. Sleep finally starting to improve consistently.

Day out tomorrow and pub lunch with my DDs.

pointythings · 14/01/2022 09:42

Caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror this morning and the Christmas indulgence face is gone - rocking the cheekbones again.

I've got a monster headache though, so will LFT later today.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 14/01/2022 09:55

@IJustLovePirates I think last year we all carried on together whether totally AF or just moderating. I think the main thing is to be considerate of others so saying you've had a drink is fine...saying how lovely it was etc etc maybe not so much?

That sounds good. Everyone’s so lovely here and I’m planning on being AF most nights anyway :)

Pikaso · 14/01/2022 10:02

Loving being alcohol free. Took the dog out for a frosty morning walk (can’t usually do this on a Friday due to hangover!) and now get ready for gym. 8000 steps done today already ☺️

MakeUsACuppa · 14/01/2022 11:26

Day 14 for me and it's ready first time I've done DJ where I'm just not bothered by it.

I feel so much better the belly fat is going, my skin not only looks but feels much better - might even go for Dry Feb but no promises!

Love this thread very motivational

I managed to get Corona cero from other Tesco. With a slice of lime and cooled down it tastes very good. Definitive yes from me!

CrumpetswithMarmite · 14/01/2022 13:12

Happy Friday/weekend everyone! Checking in for Day 14. Had a good long conversation with OH last night on all the benefits and how much better I feel and that is also helping us on the relationship. I think I had been so stuck in a cycle of lows/being irritable with him from the alcohol for a long while.

I've realised an additional goal for me is to get to the point where I'm not having to decide/think about alcohol everyday! That's been the biggest thing I noticed so far is I feel physically and mentally so much better BUT it crosses my mind daily to have a drink! I want to crack that. Not sure how long it will take... does anyone know/have experience??

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/01/2022 13:18

Happy Friday! This is usually the night when I miss having a glass of wine, but it's momentary; the urge passes. Nearly at the half way point!

H1Drangea · 14/01/2022 13:56

Day 14 , and I’ve lost 4lb!
Skin still very dry so I’m slathering on cream and will use factor 50 when I go for a walk later as the sun is out today
@IsFuzzyBeagMise I’m with you , there’s an urge , a want for a glass of wine , but I can get past that 5 minutes and I’m ok

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/01/2022 13:58

Stay strong @H1Drangea! Well done on the weight loss.

SantaMonicaPier · 14/01/2022 14:14

I've bought a some AF vodka so trying that tonight. Lost 2kg so far!

SantaMonicaPier · 14/01/2022 14:14

But I am exercising and low carbing too I should add!!

KatieBenz · 14/01/2022 17:25

So I’m back on the wagon today after yesterday’s blip.
Im just trying an af Sauvignon blanc. It doesn’t taste like wine but it’s ok. Not too sweet and quite aromatic. I may buy it again. Any recommendations for an af red? We’ve got roast beef on Sunday and I can’t imagine a roast without some sort of wine.

StarryNightSparkles · 14/01/2022 18:36

Evening all 👋😊 day 13 af for me today. Had a bit of a moment yesterday. finished work and popped to the shop then before I knew it, I was in my car with 3 ! Bottles of wine 😭 got home and kept busy had some elderflower and white grape juice. Could go a glass of red wine tonight to get through it going to do housework and then have a pamper bath. My mood feels flat these past few days think it's the January post Christmas/NY blues.

Good luck to everyone for the weekend. You fantastic bunch 💖💐

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 14/01/2022 18:43

I'm having a Heineken Zero that I found at the back of the cupboard from last January. Best before date November '21. Not too much out of date, I hope Grin
