New thread for those of us attempting Dry January.

@guineapigs thinking seriously there is no way I will do DF, it's my birthday, and if by some miracle we get there, we are skiing 12-19th...red wine is a pre-requisite in snow, it's the law

Onewildandpreciouslife · 12/01/2022 14:46

Day 12 here. I’m finding it slightly irritating how much better I feel!

The mental and physical improvement have been so marked that it just underlines how bad it was before (but I know not everyone is the same), and the realisation that this may need to be a long term thing. But I seem to have an inner toddler stamping their feet and whining “but I liiike wiiine!”.

So for now I’m taking it one day at a time and concentrating on getting those 31 yellow squares and will deal with February when it happens! I might try to get to half term, but I’m not committing to that yet.

JaquiRussell · 12/01/2022 16:19

I will be doing February, and making it a full Dry-uary.
I am trying to make it seem less daunting by breaking my stoppage into sections, so Dry-uary will then turn into Sober Spring. Sober Summer, Alcohol Free Autumn, etc. But one day at a time...

CrumpetswithMarmite · 12/01/2022 16:36

Wahoo for new thread!! Just arrived at the gym to ensure I can sail through witching hour. Day 12 still dry. Well done everyone and again so glad to have this thread and to hear how everyone is doing SmileSmileSmile

For now I'm focused on Jan but could be tempted by feb too... one step at a time right now for me!

SantaMonicaPier · 12/01/2022 19:18

Hello all! And thanks so much to you Ghast for bringing us together again for mutual support

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/01/2022 19:41

Evening DJs! I'm definitely hoping to achieve 100 dry days...I was soooo proud of those of you who managed it last year. BUT it's half term in February and we're off to Butlins with 3 kids so we shall see. I definitely think DH is going to be cracking something open on 1st February. I think I managed to last until Valentine's Day last year.

Happy to just keep these threads going beyond DJ - for those wishing to continue or just reduce consumption going forward. We're a grand bunch!

@mybestyear that sleep analysis is fascinating and the 5hour wake up is spot on for me and really motivating to stay AF. I was a little unsettled last night but still refreshed this morning. I am TURBO CHARGED this evening, came in from work, family tea, kids off to respective clubs and I cleaned my kitchen extractor fan, descaled the kettle, load of washing and deep cleaned underneath my kitchen cupboards where the down lights (and grease) is. Feel amazingly proud of this achievement which would never have happened after a glass of red. Sitting with my sainsbury bedtime tea now, (lavender, rose and chamomile)

NorthernChinchilla · 12/01/2022 20:26

I find I'm doing more of a weekday evening, even though I don't drink during the week normally! Think it's part of the general improvement vibe, and not having to catch up on lost energy from the weekend. Nowhere near as energetic as you hoho Grin
Got to work this Sat, so will be glad of DJ Friday night, then slightly fed up Saturday early eve...

Arseanall · 12/01/2022 20:52

Day 11 here and I feel fabulous- so clear headed and sharp. It’s made me realise how low level rubbish I often felt before. I’m going to keep going at least the first week of February but may drink the first weekend in Feb. I’ll see how I feel then I think.

Arseanall · 12/01/2022 20:53

@guineapigs

I don't think I will do DF. My goal is to stop drinking during the week and drink less during the weekend. I am getting along fine not drinking atm but my goal never was to stop drinking totally.
This is my goal too. I’m using this as a reset
Ijustneedtosleep21 · 12/01/2022 21:25

Day 10 ✔️ have Sunday lunch at a nice restaurant booked at the end of the month so I think that will be my next test. I'm feeling good about DJ. My skin is AWFUL still, I am hoping it clears up soon. My children don't allow sleep but what little sleep I am getting is better.

I've taken the plunge to get medication for my anxiety, starting on a low dose but need that to settle in my system before drinking and I think it could take 4-6 weeks. Aiming for Dry Feb too & hopefully some baby weight loss along the way...

PeacheyPeach · 12/01/2022 22:10

Day 12 here woohoo!
It's a great feeling isn't it getting lots done and the house not being cut short because you need to pour a drink!
Dry Feb might be a good idea, think I might try and do 100 days again,(but that's not set in stone yet !!)

PeacheyPeach · 12/01/2022 22:10

*evening not house !

StarryNightSparkles · 12/01/2022 22:12

Apologies @MyGhastIsFlabbered I thought this thread was for January only so started a February thread 🤦‍♀️😳 no trouble to ask admin to delete my Feb thread.

I've just seen af Corona in Tesco if anyone likes Corna. I bought myself some lovely fancy juices and nosecco.

ChangeMustCome · 12/01/2022 22:19

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well! What a great place to check in! I have an app too, Try Dry it's called, every time I log another dry day there is a virtual party popper which is a part of my day I look forward to. I usually wait til about 8pm because if I get to that time, I won't drink.
My AF drinks arrived today and have helped me stay on the wagon!
Sleep well comrades!

VinoEsmeralda · 12/01/2022 22:21

Went out for dinner and instead of walking and going to eat in the town we live
I drove to the next one. Had a mocktail which was lovely whilst DH had a martini , wine, beer and boozy coffee. Guess who will sleep better!

Day 12 here too, seriously need to reset my drinking habit, feel so much better.

spellingtest · 13/01/2022 00:42

I'm on the other thread on here but figured it would do no harm being on both. Day 12 for me.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 13/01/2022 06:47

@StarryNightSparkles it's not a problem starting your February thread! I just wanted to keep the wagon crew together (for those that wanted to stay on or even just hop on and off when they please!) We'll probably fill this one before Feb anyway!

Well hello day 13 !
I had a reasonable nights sleep , but woke up at 5 ish and couldn’t go back to sleep as my feet wouldn’t warm up ( should have put my slippers on when I went to the loo )

I still have a really dry mouth when I woke up , which I used to put down to wine dehydration, but maybe it’s just due to my breathing through my mouth as I sleep ( and maybe I snore as my DH says … )

DH has gone to work , so I’m dressing gowned up , hot water bottle and coffee with the radio on , tucked up in bed

Did some undrunk online shopping last night ( no , not a pony 🐎 , ) just some prints to frame and put on the bathroom wall when the refit is eventually finished

Meeting a friend for lunch and a catch up in town later , will not involve alcohol as we both have to drive to get there ( joys of rural life )

Have a good day , the reset is going well ✅

NorthernChinchilla · 13/01/2022 07:10

@Ijustneedtosleep21 good for you for taking the plunge. Do you mind me asking what they've put you on?
I went on some on anti-depressants after my breakdown, full dose, citalopram. Went to half dose in the summer (as time went on, plus they buggered my sleep) and hoping to come off them this year.
It will take a few weeks for them to get into your system, but everything crossed for you they make a difference. Very good timing with DJ!

It's not February yet? I think I'd understand if we were nearing the end of January but personally I think you've jumped the gun somewhat. I intend staying dry, but for now being part of DJ is perfectly fine and very supportive.
Pikaso · 13/01/2022 07:28

Day 11 - feel fantastic!

Firsttimemummy33 · 13/01/2022 07:58

I’m really struggling to wake up on a morning, thinking it’s because I’m in a proper deep sleep? My eye bags are so much better!

KatieBenz · 13/01/2022 08:51

Hooray! Finally found the follow up thread.

Day 12 for me. Longest I’ve been af since dry January 2019. Sleep is starting to get better and I’ve lost 9lbs, although this is probably due to covid and stress - dgs is having heart surgery this afternoon (hand holding will be appreciated x).

This thread is helping my resolve and I keep on re-reading it when the 5:30 wine is calling, so thank you @MyGhastIsFlabbered for starting it

Dulsesunset · 13/01/2022 09:04

Day 10 here - double figures! Still not got the deep restful sleep I've experienced before when I've done dry Jan or sober October. Good luck to your dp @KatieBenz
