New thread for those of us attempting Dry January.

OP posts:
CrumpetswithMarmite · 15/01/2022 10:01

It's my bday next week so that's my next big test..!

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 15/01/2022 10:12

@CrumpetswithMarmite

14 days complete!

I can't remember who mentioned the skin getting worse but suddenly mine looks awful! It isn't spots... just the general complexion seems really patchy / not fresh / dull and almost more wrinkly..!! I'm really hoping that passes! I've been eating well, exercising and doing self care eg baths, moisturising..!

Other than that, I'm feeling a lot more confident now being AF, and I'm not tempted to break it like I was. It doesn't seem so challenging.

Well done everyone... Let's keep it up.

For any wobbles just jump back on the bandwagon

It was me with skin! Mine is only just starting to clear up a bit and I'm on day 13. My DH did compliment me the other day and say he's surprised my skin and face look so well considering my baby hasn't slept and I don't know if he's just trying to make me feel better it because I'm not drinking my skin has improved x
NorthernChinchilla · 15/01/2022 10:13

You're brave @CrumpetswithMarmite that's why I've not done Sober October!

Giviningup · 15/01/2022 10:42

I am on day 2.

I know that is a very small number but I want to put it in somewhere everyday to hopefully keep me grounded.

Thankfully I am working all weekend so wouldn't have been drinking anyway. Next weekend when I am off will be the real tester.

CrumpetswithMarmite · 15/01/2022 12:05

Welcome @Giviningup this is a lovely little group and the more the merrier, no matter where you are with the journey. It's never a day too late!

@Ijustneedtosleep21 ahh thank you that sounds very positive! I read last night it takes 28 days for the skin to fully renew, so I suspect it will be end of the month the full benefits start to show properly! Today it looks better than yesterday at least.

@NorthernChinchilla ha yes I'm pretty sure it is also the reason I justify not doing / failing at dry jan... I have been in cycles considering giving myself a day off but currently the plan is not to!

pointythings · 15/01/2022 14:51

Every day that you don't drink when you normally would is a win. And you can always start over.

I have stocked up on interesting tonics and other AF grown up drinks and am planning a peaceful weekend after all that driving last week.

NorthernChinchilla · 15/01/2022 16:37

Finished 6 hours of interviewing and got to stretch my legs and.... go and buy some toothpaste. Rock n roll life this DJ Grin May also get some sugar free ginger beer, quite fancy it for the 'pep' factor.

KOKO all!

whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 15/01/2022 16:40

Well I went out for lunch with a friend. She had wine. I had two AF beers and actually felt a wee bit tipsy - I think food coma mimics alcohol! But I did it and feel good being on the train home without reeking of wine and/ or hoping I sober up before I get home.

pointythings · 15/01/2022 19:39

Watching telly with the cats and a Seedlip Spice and tonic. Very nice.

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 15/01/2022 19:50

Day 13 and not a wine glass in sight. Coke Zero, curry cooking and I'm bathed and on the sofa with the dog.

If I had cracked open the wine at 6pm we'd be ordering a takeaway now and I'd still stink of chlorine from swimming with the DC's.

I've managed to exercise today too which is unheard of on a weekend!

Hohofortherobbers · 15/01/2022 19:52

At 6pm I was clucking. Drained 2 x becks blue and have just finished a mulled punch. Am through it now but it was a tough hour

CrumpetswithMarmite · 15/01/2022 20:14

Wow going strong team.

Had another fall out with OH tonight. Was really tested as this is normally the 'fuck it' moment... And then the cycle continues.

I have stuck to a cup of tea, I am chilling with the dog, and now going to have Netflix and chill eve all for me.

If anyone is struggling it's okay to not be okay or if this is really hard. Every year I have struggled and know how hard it can be. Hang in there and sending lots of strength no matter where you are on this journey. Sometimes the journey has lots of bumps, twists and fucking cliffs to navigate

H1Drangea · 15/01/2022 20:21

Still alcohol free , not really tempted …..though I’d love a biscuit !

guineapigs · 15/01/2022 20:43

Going well day 15. Really fancied a beer while cooking so ended up having two AF corona beers.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 15/01/2022 21:10

I am feeling so proud of myself. I ran a full 5k this morning. I've never run that far before. Having a clear head helped so much.

Well done 👏 I ran 3k for my first run in the 18m and it felt good 👍🏻

Hello, I'm just poking my head above the parapet. I read the thread last year and it really helped (I lasted until late February) but never posted. Dry again this January and finding it much easier than last year. I don't have any dry buddies in real life so it's good to have this thread to check in on every night. Well done to everyone!

wurlycurly · 15/01/2022 22:41

Also poking head above parapet not the right phrase but ykwim

NorthernChinchilla · 15/01/2022 22:56

That's amazing Ghast well done!

Had an Erdinger AF tonight and was very impressed. I thought this weekend would be harder, but found it fine, easier than last weekend. Not thinking about having a drink, which is great Smile

After my thrill-seeking toothpaste-purchasing today, going to look at beds, buy pet food and paint tomorrow, as we need to do touching up around the house in advance of getting it on the market soon.

IJustLovePirates · 16/01/2022 06:33

Well done @MyGhastIsFlabbered

I can’t remember the last time I even ran for a bus!

I’m afraid I caved yesterday. Had a long two hour drive with no air con or fan working in car, and was hot and tired and irritable. I also didn’t feel like cooking the elaborate dinner I planned so we went out for dinner and had two drinks. That’s a lot less than I would normally have on a Saturday night and was still up early to exercise and go to Sunday markets. It also meant I still don’t have any alcohol in the house and it’s the start of the working week tomorrow so…….Am back on board again though and looking forward to my ginger cordial tonight.

NorthernChinchilla · 16/01/2022 07:32

Think of it as a trial run for 'moderation restoftheyear' Pirates Smile

MrsJamieFraser22 · 16/01/2022 08:55

Well done @MyGhastIsFlabbered that is amazing

Day 16 we’ve got to halfway DJers - really proud of us all, pretty sure this is my longest dry spell since I was pregnant 8 years ago.

I think my cravings are almost gone - we went out for dinner last night - I drove which makes the non drinking a no brainier - saw people with beers & did think that looks good but no desire to have one.

Beautiful morning here so am just heading out for a long walk.

Have a good day everyone x
