Hello all,

This is a thread for people who have decided that life is much better without alcohol!🤩 These threads were started by @Drybird, and they have changed the lives of many people.

Some posters on these threads have been sober for a long time, and some are only just starting. We are a very friendly and inclusive bunch and we are always excited when someone new joins the thread. The only thing we ask is that our posters have given up alcohol completely. Talk of moderation can be triggering for some people, so this thread is not the right place for that (there are other moderation threads🙂).

I hope to see many familiar names on this thread, and some new ones too! We always welcome anyone to share their feelings, ask questions or simply “check in”🙂

I’d also like to thank @Breathmiller for hosting the last thread (and to ask for your forgiveness for shamelessly stealing your thread title😳) - Thank you @Breathmiller 💐

Thanks all!

Bunnies

Terrible day. New job not going ahead. Board not approved. Want to cry. We are moving next month and i am worried now as may not be able to move. I would be buying wine now normally.

LuisaMadrigal1 · 17/01/2022 16:40

Oh no @SavBbunny! I'm so sorry Flowers

SavBbunny · 17/01/2022 18:29

@LuisaMadrigal1
I will need something to eat, chocolate I think or start a new book.
I finished readng Glorious Rock Bottom and tbh i just thought you poor soul.
Double addict plus profound poor mental health. I have had a blast but I look ridiculous pissed. Thank you for thinking of me.

LuisaMadrigal1 · 17/01/2022 19:33

Some chocolate and a new book sound like a good plan. Maybe a bath if you're a bath person?

ChampooPapi · 17/01/2022 22:29

Great meeting tonight, more people and more relatable stories and outlooks. Late one for me, it finishes at 9pm and as you guys know I'm usually in bed by half 8! Worth it for the physical support and works with my pl

ChampooPapi · 17/01/2022 22:30

*works with my placement starting next week.

First day of the week ticked off. Feeling positive. Night all 💜

Touty · 17/01/2022 23:35

Checking in 👍 but struggling today.

SavBbunny · 18/01/2022 04:13

Very early morning all. Still angry about job stitch up. How the hell I didn't hit the wine winking in the corner of the kitchen
Double addict is not me I ment Bryony Gordon, I have never even had a spliff! Plenty of wine though 😀
Do people find AA helpful?
I went 4 years ago and was shocked by the tales of violence. Not worried about higher power thing as God botherer but I can't do the apologies. My wider family have treated me appalling and I let rip at Christmas after having one too many. I do feel quite vulnerable. Detox does this I expect.

LuisaMadrigal1 · 18/01/2022 05:56

Early start here as well.

Well done for not hitting the wine @SavBbunny.

I haven't tried AA, but am considering it. I know someone who loved it, but I've read mixed reviews online. Maybe depends on the group. But I'd say worth a try!

@Touty, sorry you're struggling. Hope it's an easier day today.

AlloftheTime · 18/01/2022 07:07

@Adm1010 glad the weekend was good, you sound positive 👍
@Touty sorry you are struggling and hope today is better.

@ChampooPapi it’s good to hear that the Monday meeting was useful and you found it relatable as I think that’s important to being invested enough to keep going. I expect the placement will be an interesting if tiring experience but all part of your goal as a health professional. Greatly admire your stamina and aspirations. I’m good thanks for asking - I feel I am a cruising mode if that makes sense? Hardly ever have a craving and I can ‘think away’ from them now. I keep alert though as I want to keep the good results going! Sitting in bed first thing with my tea and a clear head is one thing I never tire of. I can’t believe how many mornings I spend time and effort just to actually fully wake up and shrug off the sluggishness of alcohol - what a waste of time apart from anything else. Still dealing with family issues and I have a divorce to sort by out but anything seems possible even if it’s not very palatable.

Checking in -
I know some of you are struggling with all manner of problems and concerns and I hope this week is better for you. I wish we had a group magic wand and could take turns in using it to solve the myriad of messes in our lives, however until I find one I’m sticking with AF as at least my decision making is more reliable sober 😊

BunniesBunniesBunnies · 18/01/2022 08:12

Glad you had a great meeting @ChampooPapi and hope today is easier for you @Touty

Cheers @BunniesBunniesBunnies. How is life treating you at the moment? Can't believe we are nearly onto a new thread !

Checking in people 🙌

Touty · 18/01/2022 21:42

Checking in. Feeling low today.
Also went to doctors today and he weighed me and I haven't lost any weight despite not drinking for a month. I don't understand this, I haven't replaced the alcohol with anything, I don't bother with AF drinks and I'm not eating any more, so there should have been a bug valore deficit 😒

Touty · 18/01/2022 21:43

Calorie deficit

Touty · 18/01/2022 21:47

I seem to be struggling with low self esteem at the moment, I guess a lot of that comes from my sadness and disappointment at my life circumstances and this extends into my work. I used to look forward to a drink every day to numb these feelings out for 2or 3 hours

Touty · 18/01/2022 21:51

@ChampooPapi do you attend meetings in person or in line?

Kindtomyself · 18/01/2022 21:58

Hi. Just checking in. Sorry you're feeling low @Touty - did the doctor help?

Touty · 18/01/2022 22:11

@Kindtomyself I didn't speak to him about it, I'm not seeing him for anything to do with weight loss actually so it didn't seem relevant. He also seemed to be in a rush so I didn't want to spill my guts about boozing etc.

SavBbunny · 19/01/2022 09:10

Checking in.
Day 11.
House purchase fell through. Managed not to drink. Proud of myself.

Adm1010 · 19/01/2022 10:15

@Touty sorry you are low . Without alcohol everything is very real isn’t it! It’s hard to explain to someone who doesn’t understand but it’s like their is no “ off “ no release from FEELING ! The temptation to “ just switch it off” is always their …. As the alternative is this constant state of bloody FEELING !

Anyway onwards Grin in work today but it’s quiet , just plodding through .

I’m praying for lighter nights to start sitting outside with my fire and a blanket . It’s coming

BunniesBunniesBunnies · 19/01/2022 12:20

Waves 👋 at @ChampooPapi, I’m not too bad! Bit knackered (youngest not sleeping well😴) and busy with work but powering through January. How have you been?

@Touty sorry to hear about the low self esteem. You have done amazingly not drinking, this is a real achievement and you should be so proud. When I feel shitty I remind myself that at least I am still sober, and that is a great achievement in itself. Don’t be upset about the lack of weightloss. Quitting booze is a great thing to do for your health whether you loose weight or not. Honestly regardless of your size your organs will be grateful.

@SavBbunny well done on not drinking at a tricky time. I hope the house stuff works out soon!

Evening lads. Just popping in the brag about 600 days. 600 whole mornings not waking up rough as badger's arse.

AlloftheTime · 19/01/2022 20:39

@HangingOver - brag away!
Well done you - happy sober mornings

Adm1010 · 19/01/2022 22:32

Amazing @HangingOver!! Brag away

Drybird2020 · 19/01/2022 22:46

@HangingOver, 600 days!!!! Doesn't seem long ago that we were holding your hands on the flight back from Oz. You've done just brilliantly.
