Morning. No snow here 🙁 just rain. I must try the tonic with AF wine cos so far I’m not really liking any of them

DefNotDeadYet · 16/01/2021 09:03

Has anyone else got a problem with the Try Dry app? Mine says today (Saturday) is the 17th, the whole thing is a day out. It's definitely set on 2021. I haven't noticed up till now! Then again as I work shifts I'm never really 100% sure what day of the week it is!

supercee · 16/01/2021 09:08

Day 16 here. Can't remember the last time I had 16 days off, possibly years Blush

My sleep is so much better now and I'm even handling going into work better (I work stupid shifts). I'd still rather win the lottery but its probably the lack of hangovers etc that's making it seem not so bad.

Stuck to my two becks blue and my 'fakeaway' fish and celeriac chips so didn't feel too deprived. Haven't decided yet if I should have a birthday drink at the end of the month and then reset and carry on for February. It's impossible for me to lose weight whilst drinking and I've still for a wee bit to go.

Have a good weekend and don't feel bad if you have a blip. It's the worst January on record to be fair.

Allycat · 16/01/2021 09:09

Oh yes @Def. My Try Dry app says the same. I definitely updated it last night to say I'd stayed dry, but it says I haven't updated Friday. It's like it's changed overnight!!

Mine's fine, says today is the 16th. Maybe delete it and re-download it?

Yes my Dry App is the same, it's saying the 1st Jan was a Thursday but it was a Friday. So it's added on an extra day .

Youngatheart00 · 16/01/2021 09:24

I fell off the wagon last night after a really upsetting day at work. Had a bottle over the course of the night. Feel ashamed but I’m going to get right back on and continue with as many dry days as I can. My app looks blemished 😔

CandyLeBonBon · 16/01/2021 09:44

Get up, dust yourself off and get right back on that horse @Youngatheart00. No shame or mental be ratings allowed. You did it, it's done. Today is a new day. You've got this Thanks

goldpendant · 16/01/2021 09:53

@Youngatheart00 let's dust ourselves off, today is a new day. I genuinely feel rotten, no guilt or shame, just rough - and that's motivation enough to see it through (and beyond). I thought I was missing something, but it's not worth it.

I enjoyed the glass I had but not as much as I thought I would. And not enough to warrant the headache I've got today.

Youngatheart00 · 16/01/2021 09:58

Thanks both, I almost didn’t post due to my shame but you have both made me feel better. Falling off has made me appreciate the satisfaction of NOT drinking once more. I don’t feel rough this morning just determined to see the rest of the month through!!!

Love this little community

CandyLeBonBon · 16/01/2021 10:05

Well done @Youngatheart00 and @goldpendant

If it helps, just reframe it as 'learning what moderation looks like' because effectively that's exactly what you're doing. And each time you make healthier choices it carved out new neural pathways that eventually become your norm. The fact that you can recognise it's a 'blip' is a good sign. It means you're going to be able to moderate in future which is brilliant!

Humphriescushion · 16/01/2021 10:15

Dont be too hard on yourselves @ gold and young, jump back in hold onto how the blip was not worth it and what @ candy said.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/01/2021 12:34

I had an outing to M&S for some food and picked up some AF/low alcohol drinks while I was there. I've posted a photo of my stash! They had a great selection, especially of distilled botanicals. I didn't know what to choose.

Day 16 astonishing, like many of you, haven't gone this long for years.
This morning was the first time I haven't woken up with a headache thankfully.
I am thinking that the benefits are gradual, wish I had weighed myself and took photos at the beginning.
Just grateful for being AF and plan on keeping it up.
To those who have had a 'wobble' don't give up - get back on the bike Smile

Haggisfish · 16/01/2021 14:29

@Youngatheart00 and others who have slipped-this is my fifth or sixth attempt at dry jan! I’ve found it to be a gradual process of acceptance and changing thought patterns. Don’t give up giving up. It took me at least ten attempts to give up smoking but I’ve not had a cigarette for ten years now. You’ll get there.

CandyLeBonBon · 16/01/2021 16:53

How are we all doing?

supercee · 16/01/2021 17:00

Not going to lie I'm starting to struggle.

First proper 'I'm wavering' day since I started. I've made low carb brownies and have had lower carb spaghetti delivered which will still blow my carb/calorie allowance to go with my lovingly slow cooked tomato sauce which is bubbling away and I can't help but want a nice red to go with it 😖 I've also had shitty schoolgirl type behaviour from a so called now former friend and it's making me think fuck it. The last time I drive an to celebrate me getting through the half way mark I didn't get back on the wagon.

I've got my Becks blues in the fridge but they are not as appealing. Help!

Hope everyone's willpower is remaining higher than mine.

supercee · 16/01/2021 17:00

Drive?! *drank

goldpendant · 16/01/2021 17:02

@supercee - aaarrggh! It was a schoolgirl fallout that drove me too cave in yesterday!! If you think it'll help then go for it, but it probably won't..... what'll help is a clear head and staying in control! Good luck!

CoronaIsWatching · 16/01/2021 17:04

@CandyLeBonBon

How are we all doing?
I actually stamped my feet early and snarled to myself about how much i wanted alcohol and despaired that I still have two weekends after this one to get through. Anyway I got a Becks Blue out of the fridge and put on Bridgerton. This will pass.
goldpendant · 16/01/2021 17:07

Much more focused today @CandyLeBonBon - like my blip yesterday was a lesson, a big one, a new neural switch learned.

I was just standing by the sink feeling thirsty. I hate still water, coffee'd out, not wine.... and then I realised that a nice drink doesn't have to be booze.... I don't need to have a nice drink as a treat, or after 6pm.... so I poured a lovely big bitter orange tonic (London Essence) with a squeeze of lime in a gin goblet and it's hit the spot. I don't even feel I'm depriving myself, I am being good to my body.

This is a revelation for me!!

supercee · 16/01/2021 17:11

I know @goldpendant My sensible side is saying it won't be worth it, I'll do my usual and tan the bottle and no doubt run and get some more, I'll feel shit tomorrow and to stop being the queen of self sabotage. My belly has a long way to go before it no longer resembles a water bed.

The devil dude on my shoulder is saying it's just for one night, it's my last weekend off (I only get two out of five off), the taste and feeling of the first glass and it's such a shitty time as it is and my so called close girlfriends have really shown themselves to be their true shitty selves during this (but share mental health memes) that I deserve this wine. I'm in on my own and battling with just myself is a daily struggle.

goldpendant · 16/01/2021 17:22

Oh @supercee there is nothing worse than seeing friends' true colours - we will all be stand ins, if that's okay? And cheering you on from here.

supercee · 16/01/2021 17:38

Thanks @goldpendant very much appreciated!
