Anyone doing Dry January 2021?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/12/2020 17:39

I was going to go sober this year...but for various reasons (excuses) it didn't happen. DP and I have agreed to try Dry January as we are both drinking too much. Anyone else fancy coming along for the ride?

CandyLeBonBon well done!!!! I don't think I'm strong enough to not buy booze in a supermarket yet....need a few more days under my belt. Boris's announcement has depressed me...its going to make things extra difficult. Sad

Sometimes123 · 04/01/2021 20:16

dementedma, sorry for your loss. Flowers

showmethegin · 04/01/2021 20:17

I've just had a champagne truffle chocolate does that count as a drink? Grin

showmethegin · 04/01/2021 20:17

So sorry for your loss @dementedma

PeacheyPeach · 04/01/2021 20:20

I started having a midweek drink at the start of the first lockdown after not drinking for 3 months. I'm determined thats not going to start again as i just carried on every night throughout 2020 and ridiculous amounts as well. To be honest having a drink even though I thought was a treat was actually hindering me when I was trying to homeschool, as I was more short tempered and felt anxious so I'm hoping I feel a lot more calmer this time around and stronger xx

CandyLeBonBon · 04/01/2021 20:28

@showmethegin

No. You're fine! Just don't eat the whole box!!! Grin

Hope today went as well as could be expected @dementedma, sorry for your loss. Well done on staying AF - that must have been really tough.

Very sorry for your loss @dementedma - it is a tough time for you so be good to yourself, whatever that means to you.

I am feeling slightly less grumpy and crossing my fingers for a better night's sleep as I have a Pilates class at 7.30am. I will emerge from this lockdown like a butterfly from a chrysalis....

TessApricot · 04/01/2021 21:11

@dementedma I’m so sorry. My dad died at the start of the first lockdown so I know some of what you’re going through.

TessApricot · 04/01/2021 21:13

I started my new job today and in the car on the way home I immediately thought about rewarding myself with wine at home! I had to remind myself that there are other treats and nice things I can do for myself. I had a Diet Coke with loads of ice and lime in a wine glass then did some yoga.

dementedma · 04/01/2021 21:18

Thank you all. Sorry for hijacking. Been a long day.

supercee · 04/01/2021 21:20

Sorry @dementedma 💐

Captain Kombucha is nice if I recall, from H&B. I think I got the raspberry one.

wizzbangfizz · 04/01/2021 21:21

Well on the back of today I'm not sure I'm going to go the distance but I can't let it creep up to the levels it was before. I know that sounds defeatist but home schooling nearly broke all
Of us first time round.

mrsnibblesisahero · 04/01/2021 21:22

Not hijacking at all @dementedma

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/01/2021 21:26

No need to apologise at all @dementedma

What IS kombucha? My poor frazzled brain keeps confusing it with kimchi which is somewhat different Confused

Hi all. I've been lurking on here. I was dry this month up to oh, about 8.10pm. I've had a double spirit and mixer.

I feel bad about that as it was a habitual response to bad news. HOWEVER, I'm proud of myself for stopping at one drink, recording it on my DryJanuary app and I shall move on. I'm not off the wagon.

TimeForMe2020 · 04/01/2021 21:35

Well done everyone. Four days in. Have had decaf tea and peppermint tea - which was surprisingly nice - this evening. I agree with the lady that said her skin looks better on alcohol. But as advised will wait to be surprised on day 10 😀😀. My dry days app is telling me that at the end of day 4, I have saved £25.00 and consumed 3,257 less calories. Also trying to do 16-8 intermittent fasting. I managed 18-6 today. My weight was 11.4 on the 1st am looking to see if giving up the wine makes a difference. Like a lot of people on here, just going day to day but Friday will the toughie. Keep going ladies. X

TSBelliot · 04/01/2021 21:43

Sorry dementedma. That’s hard.

Wingbangfizz - I reckon Tiddlymama has it right. If you slip keep it smaller then get back to it. My last lockdown was full of booze. This one can’t be the same.

supercee · 04/01/2021 21:44

😂 they are both fermented so good for the gut so not very far off @MyGhastIsFlabbered!

It's a fermented, slightly fizzy drink that's apparently good for the gut with other health benefits/antioxidants. Downside is some have varying degrees of sugar but a nice change to a glass of alcohol.

DaisyDeliah · 04/01/2021 22:02

Well i fucked up, i have no willpower, me and hubby shared a box of wine :( im so stressed, i hate myself right now.

Blessex · 04/01/2021 22:34

Lying in bed eating sweets. Never want to eat sweets usually. But at least managed to avoid the wine witch. Day 2. Feels like a month already.

WelshMammy123 · 04/01/2021 22:34

Try not to be too hard on yourself @DaisyDeliah - things are really tough right now and exceptionally stressful. Don't beat yourself up - tomorrow is a new day. If you decide to get back on the wagon great but if you decide to stay off it then that's fine too. There's no rule that says you couldn't do dry feb or March or whenever if that's a better option.

132orbust · 04/01/2021 22:44

Oh it would have been so easy to give in tonight as Boris sends our/our daughter's world in chaos again but I stayed strong and had some tea instead.
Not quite the same but the scales will thank me for it I hope.

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 23:06

I'm going to bed with a decaf coffee.

I so nearly cracked earlier, I feel so anxious and worried and upset. But I know that being slightly hungover will just make things worse. Night everyone.

Haggisfish · 04/01/2021 23:08

I’m still sober too, astonishingly.
