Anyone doing Dry January 2021?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/12/2020 17:39

I was going to go sober this year...but for various reasons (excuses) it didn't happen. DP and I have agreed to try Dry January as we are both drinking too much. Anyone else fancy coming along for the ride?

Morning all, day 3 and feeling better already despite neighbour's toddler blasting the recorder at 8am (is 8am too early to play a recorder?!).

Feeling better already and started Fast 800 and IF. Not going to weigh myself for a bit I think as I'll know by my clothes when the Christmas chub comes off then take it from there. My birthday at the end of the month but seriously thinking of not drinking, or having Nosecco. Has anyone tried this?

Like many others I really have no off switch, at all. 1 glass turns into a bottle and a half and one night turns into a weekend which turns into not being able to get back on the wagon for weeks. I don't want to risk it as I've given myself a goal by end of March weight wise.

Thoughts to everyone back at work today.

supercee · 04/01/2021 10:03

@SwiftyFifty being alone is my excuse too! Though I have no children, I don't have anyone to answer to or be responsible for anyone which doesn't help on the drinking front.

As I haven't 'settled down' I still see myself as a young 38, and the alternative to sitting in alone drinking wine which is do is sitting with (pre Covid) friends drinking wine or going to the pub and drink too much wine.

I've decided that really needs to change, even if the pubs and stuff reopen Confused

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 10:27

Well, the weight is fairly depressing but according to MFL a pound down on jan 4th 2020 so could be worse. It will be interesting to me if I lose weight through dry Jan.

Blessex · 04/01/2021 11:18

Day 2 today which sounds pathetic but that really is my first night without alcohol for as long as I can remember. Slept well! Woke with a start to my alarm at 7am. Usually would wake at 4am and toss and turn and fall back to sleep. I have same ‘alone’ issue. My DH lives away most of the time and so I have nobody to moderate me. My kids (12 and 14) are really noticing my drinking now tho and whilst i minimise it to them it isn’t normal. I really like what one poster put upthread - about setting tasks in the evening to do instead of slumping with a bottle of wine and a packet of crisps. Mine is to tidy the junk area upstairs. Let’s see how I get on as I work full time (from home at the moment) and usually get to the evening exhausted and ready for a glass (bottle) of wine.

OhioOhioOhio · 04/01/2021 11:28

Yeah. The evening is a struggle but I grt exhausted doing the jobs in the evening. I think I need something calmer.

CandyLeBonBon · 04/01/2021 11:36

8am recorder playing is a capital offence ime - but then I am 4 days without alcohol so maybe I'm just an old bag!

CandyLeBonBon · 04/01/2021 11:38

Just to say - I'm so pleased we're all here. It's so nice to do this knowing you're not alone with your disordered drinking (and sometimes thinking!).

I like that it's helping to keep me accountable. Thanks to you all (it's a bit early for Wineeven for me!!!)

AgnesNaismith · 04/01/2021 12:14

Does anyone else feel more ‘present’ today? I don’t know if it’s beginning of January wake up or a genuine change already? I feel like I can see more clearly and think in a more orderly way.

I know I’ll use the inevitable school shutdown announcement as an excuse to have wine but hoping writing it down here will stop me. Bojo is my wine trigger.

I had an appalling day 15 hour day at work yesterday, and some bad news too. I had pretty much convinced myself that this was a bad time for me to do DJ, but by the time I got home I just had a cuppa (which tasted amazing after not having one all day), a sandwich and went to bed. I feel very virtuous today and ready to continue!!!

wizzbangfizz · 04/01/2021 12:42

@AgnesNaismith every time Boris is on tv I want to reach for the bottle! I'm worrying schools closing will trigger me as the last time was horrendous. Let's try and stay storing!

MiniDoofa · 04/01/2021 12:47

Back at my (crappy) Work this morning then took kids out this arvo (not uk)
Exhausted by5pm and really fancied G and T but had tonic with fresh lime instead. Pretty good! Now having tea and will go to bed soon so I’m pleased I’ve made it thru another AF day.
Not feeling much different yet in myself but hoping to see a difference in my skin (adult acne 😱) in a couple weeks.

Haggisfish · 04/01/2021 13:31

@supercee I’ve tried nosecco and it’s actually pretty good-very like the real thing. On another thread about going to bed by 10pm someone asked ‘but what do you do when you stay up late?’ And it stopped me in my tracks a bit because the reality is I drink wine and put off going to bed which is a bit crap really!!

NearWildHeaven · 04/01/2021 13:39

Well done! Sounds like a tough one so well done for sticking to the tea. Hope this week is better for you Thanks
mamaoffourdc · 04/01/2021 14:12

Headache and still hungry!!!!! But day 4! Yay

Haybo26 · 04/01/2021 14:32

Ravenous all the time but trying not to eat crap! Got tons of red wine, prosecco, rum, Baileys still from Christmas but not feeling enticed...yet..by it! Hubby is doing no choc January so we are in healthy competition with each other!

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 14:42

Remember to drink plenty of water today - go on, go and have a glass of water!

HoxtonBonnet · 04/01/2021 14:57

I was a late starter and had my first dry night last night. I didn't find it too hard because I was feeling hung over and filled with self-loathing so no inclination to drink. I got into bed very early with my iPad and slept well. I think the reason I slept so well was because I had a hot shower and smothered myself with magnesium spray - due to feeling a bit sore and achey (bad back and stiff neck) - it helped relax me sooo much. I think I will do this every night.

DH, who is also doing DJ did not sleep well - he has been tired and out of sorts today.

I am sure the twitch will kick in soon. I have been averaging a bottle of prosecco plus a glass or two of Baileys a night over the Christmas period. Blush

SummerScoop · 04/01/2021 15:00

I'm in. Day 4 here, slept better last night after 2 bad nights. This is also the longest I've been without a drink. Tend to drink a bottle of wine at least 5 days a week. Hoping to do the whole of January.

theDudesmummy · 04/01/2021 15:17

I am feeling so thirsty all the time!

PeacheyPeach · 04/01/2021 15:41

@NorthernLights77

Morning, just checking in today will be Day 4 for me, have felt quite irritable for the last few days but haven’t really felt the urge for a drink at all which I guess is a good thing! Anyone else here hoping to stay AF free beyond January?
Northern lights I'm feeling the same today am feeling really irritated and finding myself getting annoyed very easily at everyone. Hope that this passes as I'm sure i must be awful to be around!!! I to am hoping to carry AF on into the spring as well x
BinkerTell · 04/01/2021 15:43

@theDudesmummy

I am feeling so thirsty all the time!
Me too - I've already had about 2l of water today! I am doing a 28 day healthy eating and exercise challenge which also requires me to be alcohol free, so I'm really hoping I see some benefits at the end of January.
Youngatheart00 · 04/01/2021 15:48

Boris addressing the nation at 8 tonight, really feel like I need a drink for that 😫

Must.Stay.Strong

bigbeautwoman · 04/01/2021 15:58

I’ve had a bad relationship with alcohol for many years. More determined this year than ever to be able to enjoy a drink on a Saturday evening rather then need a drink everyday. Good luck all we can do thisStar

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 16:45

I'll be fine now until Friday night. That will be the next challenge

AgnesNaismith · 04/01/2021 17:09

Me too @Youngatheart00 I’m close to declaring today an anomaly
