OMG @fluckityfluckfluck I am so, so genuinely sorry for your loss. I can't believe it. I actually don't know what to say.

@fluckityfluckfluck oh no. Devastated for you and your DC. Such sad news, I’m so sorry.

How are you doing now? I had a dry weekend and didn’t catch up with the thread until today as I ordered my food shop. Didn’t order wine as have a busy weekend ahead. That will put me on a good 2 week run.

I hope everyone is doing ok. The thread’s been quiet this week.

Just checking in, I have to admit I'm very confused by lots of username changes 🤣
I was cherrybakewelllll.

So we've been drinking pretty much most nights in December. Not excessively in quantity per day but obviously over the course of the week it's bad.

Weirdly though I'm at target weight now so I can't even use that as a motivator.

We have decided to be one of those people and do dry January. It's what we need to many reasons, including financial.

I've also managed to get myself a new job, which is customer facing again rather than shoved in a locked down office, so that's another reason I need to be completely on it during the week.

@fluckityfluckfluck I imagine you are struggling with things life wise at the moment, don't mean that patronisingly, just you've had so much going on which isn't ideal at the best of times let alone in shitty 2020. Are you ok?

@Patbutcherismyhero I miss you! How are things going?

Merry Christmas everyone. Another name change going on here. I used to be a princess or two.
It’s been quiet here. I wonder if it will pick up in new year. Inevitably I had to shut my business again. So frustrating. At home with the DC once more.
I’ve managed to keep to my one bottle on a Friday evening but I will go dry again in the new year.
I hope everyone is ok.

Haven't been on this thread for ages (because I have been drinking).

I am so sorry about Sid @fluckityfluckfluck
What a dreadful shock for you and the kids. I'm so very sorry. How are you doing?

I took a 19 day break from drinking but I'm back on it again, as bad as before and of course using Xmas as a reason to justify it. I got so pissed the other night that I bumped my head on a shelf and have a cut on my forehead. Maybe it will scar, I deserve it, might serve as a good reminder to me to sort myself out. Dry January for me, at the very least.

Hi @fluckityfluckfluck you ok? Drop in and tell us how you are, if you can?

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a good one for us all. Let's not put too much pressure on ourselves, the world is doing that already. I have not been around in a while. I am happy to say I still haven't drunk. 141 days or thereabouts.

Feel much more even, mentally. A little less anxious. A kg of coffee.beans a fortnight prob doesn't help with the anxiety, but it helps with the endless.housework and child care.
I haven't lost any weight.
My relationship is still in shreds.Single parenting.
Still avoiding people as much as I can.

I haven't found quitting to be all life transforming like you read in so much quit lit. And I was a very heavy drinker. I sort of expected more improvements. My toddler still wakes me 4 times a night so sleep is a big missing part of this puzzle, probably.

Sorry to hear about your business @Ilovenewyear. The latest wave of covid was an inevitable train crash. I hope there is hope for spring/summer.

Here for anyone who needs support quitting for new year. I never really thought I would get on top of drinking but I did. It can be done!!

Here we go 2021!! Good luck everyone xx

Just checking in on the thread. I'm confused who used to be who 🤣

I'm doing dry January, admittedly day 1 is today because yesterday we decided to drink all the wine 'declutter' the sideboard.

@HotelRoomforOne schools are shut here and my DC are back at home so it might not be such a bad thing that the business is closed again.
It 6th Jan and I’m on day 6. In fairness I was only drinking maybe one bottle of wine on a Friday night and that was it in the run up to Christmas but I know another month off will do me good.
I’m also on day 6 of no caffeine!
Trying to eat well and sleep more and keep up the exercise with a view to maintaining some sort of sanity. It’s a plan anyway.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the silence. Losing Sid was horrendous. More than that, he made me feel unsafe in my home - which has been my refuge since leaving xh. That rocked me to my core.

Anyway - long story short we have rehomed an older dog and he has settled in great and is healing us all, one lick at a time.

I haven't been drinking - day 210 which three blips but only the first was more than a couple. Work is insane and I think I've gone even further inside myself... anyway - I hope you are all okay xx

Hello everyone - could I join you? Decided to attempt 6months AF. DH did a year in 2019 and I usually do a month or so in a year (never dry January, I kind of have to wait until I just want to not drink for a bit IYSWIM) but lockdown saw me drinking so much, we tried not buying any and then we’d just order in but now I just feel the compunction not to drink and I’d like to really give myself a break. A year is overwhelming and I can’t bare the thought of the summer without G&T and 6months will be challenging enough. If I don’t manage then I don’t but so far feeling ok about it. Started on 6th Jan so it’s been 10 days which is the longest I’ve gone without alcohol in at least a year

What is the quit drinking app called @fluckityfluckfluck ?

Have been mostly dry since 1 Jan here. Really love it!

Lovely to hear from you @fluckityfluckfluck, you've done so well to stay AF after all that you've been through. And welcome to the new pup. Thinking of you and hope you're okay.

Welcome newbies. This thread has gone quieter, probably a combination of things including Christmas, covid, homeschooling, alcohol confessions etc. A lot of stuff going on for a lot of people.

I've managed to do Dry January so far which is now day 20 for me, longest I've been since pregnancy. Had a few wobbles at the weekend (possibly PMT, was in foul mood) but has been okay so far. Have replaced the wine with the ice cream so the sugar addiction is ramping up, but hey, one day at a time right.

Waving to so many of you. @Patbutcherismyhero, how are ya?

Hi guys, not been here for a while but I'm on day 44AF!! I have nearly achieved my goal which was AF till 40! My birthday is tomorrow and I haven't yet decided whether to carry on being AF or to have an occasional drink, my worry being that occasionally will lead to 3/4 bottles of wine a week 😬

I'm back and yes I did go back to 3/4 bottles a week!☹️ trying The alcohol Experiment to try and break the cycle !

Hi all, sorry it's been so long... was trying to have a social media detox, didn't work 😂

I'm so sorry to hear about Sid @fluckityfluckfluck, that must have been so hard on you all, really glad to hear that you are healing day by day with your rescued little one. And congrats on sticking with sobriety throughout, that's impressive.
I didn't manage to read back that far but I hope everyone is okay and coping with lockdown 3 billion!
How's moderation treating those of you that are on that path?

Hope all are ok! How's you dad @Patbutcherismyhero?

Hello to anyone I've yet to greet!

I'm doing okay, day 205 here but starting to fancy a glass of wine, think it's the monotony of lockdowns plus a stressful few months- illness, then miscarried over xmas, various household things breaking, mental workloads etc... hanging on in but my resolve is not what it was.

Lovely to be back and happy 2021 to you all xx

We've cut down a lot which is probably still too much but we are making progress. I've changed my job and now have to dish out medical advice including healthy lifestyle checks for patients so I feel like I need to practice what I preach Hmm

I’m back. Started a while back but dropped off as was drinking again. All stress relieving drinks as soon as I got in from work but was getting a bit sneaky about it and recognised i needed to address it. I did some online reading and got serious as very much falling into dependant drinking patterns. And when I reviewed my weekly units I was a bit Shock. I haven’t been able to drink at all for a week due to work demands and it has taken every ounce of strength tonight to buy soda instead of wine on the way home. But I’m here on day 7 AF sipping root beer and feeling like I want to get buzzed but also knowing how utterly shit I’ll feel if I do. So I’m not going to! Hope others are doing ok. Flowers
It’s a marathon not a sprint I guess!
