Hope all are well...I've a hair appointment this evening - I would never have scheduled an apt for after 6 unless I had absolutely no option and it was desperate because that's getting on the way of wine time.

So many things every day that we're either consciously or subconsciously dictated by wine. Such a life limiter in so many ways. Here's to fabulous hair and Heineken zero Grin

fluckityfluckfluck · 19/08/2020 17:34

@CherryCocktails it's good to sleep, your body will be processing a lot and you are allowing it time to heal. I would just indulge anything you feel if you can the first week. Anything that gets you through - well done x

ErinBrockovich · 19/08/2020 21:47

@fluckityfluckfluck thanks for the app recommendation. The thing is, I haven’t told my DH that I’m going AF. For many reasons. Partly because he’s been bugging me to do it for a while (he’ll continue to drink) and I don’t want him to add pressure. So I haven’t downloaded the app. But I did just remove my alcohol order from the weekly shop. He hasn’t noticed yet but when he does notice I’m not drinking this weekend I’ll just say I don’t fancy it and brush it aside. This is for me and me alone.

I hope the hair looks good :)

NaToth · 19/08/2020 22:23

Day 3 here as well. Had three days off last week and aiming for at least four days this week. Need to keep my wits about me and not black out again.

What I need is suggestions for AF drinks in the pub.Heineken 0% is all right, if I can get it, but if not I don't really like anything over sweet. Any thoughts?

RandomGirl · 19/08/2020 22:30

@NaToth what about Becks Blue? Most pubs have that. Or tonic water? Or lime and soda?

FrolickingLemon · 19/08/2020 23:57

Becks Blue, Tonic Water or Lime and Soda would be my go- to's.

Hope everyone feeling ok. I'm feeling very awake. But then DD is too. So warm here. Thindedtorms forecast from 2am here.

HotelRoomforOne · 20/08/2020 02:00

Hi @CherryCocktails I also felt totally fatigued on day 3. I wonder what the physiology of this is, why the alcohol leaving your body makes you so tired?
I'm on day 8 now and still feel wrecked.
Dont feel any better, dont look any better, haven't lost any weight, bone tired.

Not sure how.much of this can attributed to alcohol withdrawal or is it being trapped in lockdown with 3 children under 7 HA! I hope your fatigue lifts soon, by many accounts it will take about a fortnight?

Enjoy the hair @fluckityfluckfluck!
Not only did I used to get tipsy before hair appointments I would take the wine they offered every Time, over tea and Good coffee, needed drink even to get a hair cut! Tragic.
I hope you had a nice relaxing appointment. Hairdressers still all closed in Melb and I'm not brave enough to wield the scissors myself.

Day 8 and I can confirm this is no walk in the park. I feel empty and horribly on edge. I'm not going to buy drink but I hate feeling this bad as well.

Bluewavescrashing · 20/08/2020 04:04

Hang on in there @HotelRoomforOne you can do this. One day at a time. FlowersCakeBrew

HotelRoomforOne · 20/08/2020 04:16

Thank you @Bluewavescrashing, I appreciate it.
Hanging on by my fingernails!
I like your username btw a day at the coast would no doubt sort me out, it's my favourite place .
Hope you are doing well Smile

RandomGirl · 20/08/2020 06:31

@HotelRoomforOne @CherryCocktails so I’m on Day 11 and can confirm that I’m also absolutely exhausted. My husband and I were just discussing how tired we feel and then I read your posts and put two and two together. I literally just said that I feel like I need a bit more sleep than I’m getting (7 hours!). We were going to go for a run first thing but I’ve managed to put it off until this evening. I’m most definitely not a runner... Smile

fluckityfluckfluck · 20/08/2020 06:57

Morning all - hope everyone is doing okay. I'm exhausted but more to do with Sid the puppy. Every hour last night 🤯.

The sun is shining here today. It's my last week off work and having the kids. Have a good one all. To those feeling exhausted don't be afraid to rest as much as you can.

Darcysshirt · 20/08/2020 07:39

Morning fluckityfluckfluck

I think we need some more Sid pictures!

AF yesterday, was very tempted but didn't give in! Going to the gym now.

ErinBrockovich · 20/08/2020 07:40

@HotelRoomforOne that sounds really tough. You almost expect benefits to appear instantly when it feels like your making such a big achievement. It’s important that we are kind to ourselves and remember to carve out some time for us, even when we have children, partners, wider family and other commitments all pulling us apart.

I’m day 4 AF. Today will be hard as normally I get ‘through‘ Thursday knowing I can have a drink tomorrow night. However, I have a meeting today about potentially restarting my business venture so I’m up and out early. Hopefully that will keep my mind busy too.

Have a good one all.

RandomGirl · 20/08/2020 07:58

I most definitely echo the instant results conversation - it always reminds me of this Peter Kay sketch...

14 stone, in a daaaaaaaaaay!!

fluckityfluckfluck · 20/08/2020 08:26

Here he is - butter wouldn't melt 😂

Stopping drinking for a while - part 2
FrolickingLemon · 20/08/2020 08:27

Morning all. God I'm bloody shattered too. Day 4 for me here. I think it took 2 to 3 weeks for me last time to feel at all better.

However...
Everyone I know - even those who don't drink - feels a bit disjointed, tired or under the weather at the moment. The heat. The News, the effects of Covid / lockdown on our lives which has been affecting us for what, 6 months nearly now have taken their toll. Delayed fatigue I'm calling it. DD and I are sort of enjoying summer hols, but home schooling was tough. And I think there is also now a form of lethargy creeping in. If that makes sense. Add in any additional personal struggles such and health, family, job, relationships. Then add in to that kicking the booze we have relied on to get us through the last god knows how long. Tough stuff all round.
No wonder we are all feeling so utterly fucked over. I feel all over the place. Tired. Snappy. It's hard to focus, but I'm trying to just 'be' for now. And be kind to myself.

We are all doing great. Let's be kind to ourselves.

Bloody brilliant link @RandomGirl

And I'm also a bugger for expecting instant results. I imagine jumping on the scales after a week and in my mind I'll have lost a stone, don't look like the back of a bus, and will be up for running a marathon!

FrolickingLemon · 20/08/2020 08:28

Sid just melts my heart! ❤

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 20/08/2020 08:33

Morning all! And well done for getting another day under our belts.

I can empathise with the tiredness, as well as experiencing a real lack of patience with things that would normally wash over me. Today is day 7 for me, and I really need to keep going with this.

RandomGirl · 20/08/2020 08:42

@fluckityfluckfluck Sid!! Arrrgh!! 😍😍😍

RandomGirl · 20/08/2020 08:42

We need puppy posts, they’re so lush ❤️

FrolickingLemon · 20/08/2020 08:47

Ooh and good luck with the meeting Erin

NaToth · 20/08/2020 09:11

Day 4. Heart rate is dropping markedly, but sleep is trashed.

NeedAUserNameAllTaken · 20/08/2020 10:10

Sid is adorable! Little monkey.

Sorry to hear everyone is feeling so knackered. I think it takes quite a while to detox so that could be one thing. Also booze cuts sleep cycles from 6 to 2, so it may also be a tiredness now your body finally is getting decent sleep like a "give me more" kind of thing?? I think it takes quite a while for real benefits to kick in so hang on in... day 38 and I now sleep so well (except last night but that's because I've had a fall out with a mate) and am feeling better generally.

Also like @FrolickingLemon said it's been a mad old time lately, there has to be repercussions.

Hope it's a good day all :)

NeedAUserNameAllTaken · 20/08/2020 10:27

Just reading Craig Beck, he mentions lots or vitamin and mineral deficiencies common in drinkers, tiredmess could be these showing up too maybe? Vit d is common and its been pretty rubbish weather lately so may play a role?

fluckityfluckfluck · 20/08/2020 10:40

I used to skip meals too to have more calories for wine so think crap nutrition is definitely linked
