Lockdown sober up...

LockdownSoberup · 17/07/2020 09:20

Day 1 for me. I have been drinking too much wine during lockdown and want to stop - it’s just boring now instead of alleviating the boredom Confused I don’t drink every day but when I do I drink a lot and it’s not healthy. Just a thread for me to be accountable but anyone else feeling the same is obviously welcome Grin

OP posts:
KobeWan · 18/07/2020 23:53

Day 1 completed here! Have been drinking more and more, rarely having a day off. Feel fuzzy and tired. I honestly think I've only been drinking to distinguish between day and evening and for something to do or look forward to. Looking forward to feeling fresher when I wake up tomorrow.

KobeWan · 19/07/2020 23:20

Day 2 done. Went to MIL's garden and said no to a drink. Then went on to a bar where we stayed for at least two hours. I drank coffee and then sparkling water. Offering to drive was a good tactic. Told my OH that I've recognised I need to cut right back.

KobeWan · 20/07/2020 23:57

Day 3 - didn't sleep well at all last night and had to be up early for work. Tonight looks like it's going the same way even though I'm really tired. Have been drinking coffee, tea, hot chocolate, tonic water and vimto today. Might have to think about getting some of my favourite soft drinks in for the weekend.

KobeWan · 21/07/2020 21:54

Day 4 done. Bought a range of different soft drinks to try in the evenings.

Cyllie33 · 22/07/2020 18:04

Good work! If you’re thinking of staying alcohol free there’s a great supportive thread on here that I’ve found really helpful. Day 54 here.....

KobeWan · 22/07/2020 22:06

Thank you.
Day 5 - friends tempted me with a drink but I stayed strong. Explained that I’ve decided I need to hit the reset button and have a bit of a break. Others said they’ve been thinking the same about themselves recently.

KobeWan · 23/07/2020 23:47

Day 6 - it's rained all day and I was so bored. Fancied something crisp and white but had chilled cloudy lemonade in a wine glass instead.
I may end up having a drink tomorrow because we've been gifted overnight childcare. I'm ok with that decision. I've proved to myself that I can break the habit much easier than I first thought.

Difford · 24/07/2020 19:54

Hey @KobeWan you're doing great. I'm a couple of days behind you, on day 5 now.
Up to you of course if you do decide to drink tonight but I think you might be falling into the trap that I always fall into - thinking "well I've proved that I can break the habit so I'm fine to drink now". Then I end up back exactly where I started.
To stop myself from doing exactly that I have signed up to the Annie Grace 30 Day Alcohol Challenge. It's free and you get a daily email and video. I feel like it is already changing my attitude towards drinking and would really recommend it.

Difford · 24/07/2020 19:57

Also I have been lurking on the thread that Cyllie33 mentioned above and it is really helpful.

KobeWan · 24/07/2020 21:15

I’ve had a couple of drinks at home but I’ve come out and ordered a soft drink. Also already booked a taxi home so it can’t get out of hand. I would love to be a weekend drinker only, so I think that’s my aim. Minus the hangovers though - don’t want a hangover!

KobeWan · 26/07/2020 11:05

Didn't post yesterday but I got got back on the waggon. I guess today is Day 2 again, or maybe I'm not thinking of it like that anymore? Don't know. Maybe this is week 2 of only drinking weekend evenings? I'll work it out!
How are you getting on @Difford?

Difford · 26/07/2020 19:49

Well done @KobeWan. I don't have an off switch so just having a couple of drinks is harder for me than having none. I'm feeling good this weekend, it's nice to wake up in the morning without feeling groggy. On day 7 now so that's definitely the longest I've gone without a drink since lockdown Smile

KobeWan · 26/07/2020 23:46

So today was fine. I've eaten a lot of treat/junk foods over the past couple of days though - this could be a substitute for alcohol, a reaction to my drinking on Friday night, or because it's my TOTM. Maybe a combination of all three? Something for me to keep an eye on though. Don't want to swap one unhealthy habit for another equally unhealthy habit!

FannyFernackerpan · 27/07/2020 18:03

Day 3 here.

At the start of lockdown I gave up and lasted 55 days. Then someone gave me a bottle of red for my birthday in May and I thought fuck it, it's my birthday and before I knew it I was back to 3 plus bottles a week.

Last Thursday I drank a bottle and a half. Friday I finished off the half and opened another bottle and drank 2/3rds of that!!! I'm sick of it.

Woke up Saturday and chucked what was left down the sink and haven't touched a drop all weekend.

So today is day 3 and I'm determined to keep going. Just not going to buy any more wine.

KobeWan · 27/07/2020 23:31

Hi @FannyFernackerpan!
Day 3 of my second week, had Friday off!
Got my eating back on track but drank a lot of caffeinated soft drinks so I'm probably going to struggle to get to sleep. 🤦‍♀️
The weather was miserable today and I really fancied a drink during the afternoon to evening transition. Resisted temptation despite OH having a beer. I was a bit grumpy with him!

AuntieMarys · 27/07/2020 23:40

Ooh I'm in! Our alcohol tolerance has risen greatly over lockdown and its becoming too much of a habit.
I weighed myself at the gym on Sunday and have put on 10 lbs in lockdown which tips me into overweight territory.
So last had a drink Saturday and plan to do 4 weeks without.
So far so good...lunch with a friend today and I had water...she had wine.
I am a gin addict.

KobeWan · 28/07/2020 07:19

Welcome @AuntieMarys!
I'm waking up much fresher these days.

Good luck today everyone!

mummyof4kids · 28/07/2020 09:21

I'll join!
Been drinking a lot more since the start of lockdown, a lot more as in every night.
I'm sick of feeling groggy and tired all the time so this is my day 1, I've joined similar threads to these before but never lasted. It feels different this time though, this morning I think I've had a light bulb moment and had enough of drinking.
Looking forward to spurring each other on

lockdownlush · 28/07/2020 09:37

Pulling up a chair... I really need to stop the wine intake!! It starts today 🙌

FannyFernackerpan · 28/07/2020 10:15

So day 4 for me and feeling as determined as ever. However, I went for a walk last night as I'm also trying to improve my fitness by doing 10,000 steps a day. I was going great until my toe caught the edge of an uneven paving slab and I went smack down on the pavement. Palms and left knee caught the impact so today I'm sore and achey with a couple of nasty grazes on my knee and hand.

Lesson learned - no more night walk for me!

There seem to be several threads running but as this is the newest I decided to sign up here.

Am serious about this. Booze does me no favours and I am happier, healthier and fitter without it.

By the way, it had nothing to do with my trip last night. I was and am as sober as a judge and intend to stay that way!

KobeWan · 28/07/2020 10:39

Hello everyone! I'm glad there's a few of us now. I hope our OP is ok @LockdownSoberup?

lockdownlush · 28/07/2020 10:40

Sorry to hear you've had a fall. If you have some bio oil that will help with bruising.

I'm booking gym classes in the evening.. that way I have to drive and stay off the wine! God knows I need to exercise to! Not sure what's happened to me over lockdown but nothing forts and a bottle of wine a night has become far to easy to sink. I'm actually quite worried about my alcohol intake. I need to be accountable daily and checking in here will do me good.

FannyFernackerpan · 28/07/2020 10:49

@lockdownlush
A bottle of wine goes nowhere.

The glasses I've got don't even look that big but they take half a bottle. Two of those and the bottle is gone!

I wasn't drinking every night but on the nights I was, I'd always crack open a 2nd bottle and get halfway through that!

Then it would be a case of drinking gallons of water to try and minimise the hangover next day. It would help to some extent but I'd still feel out of sorts and edgy and anxious all day, not to mention eating loads of shit.

lockdownlush · 28/07/2020 11:41

My sleep is terrible! I spend all morning trying to focus and sort out work emails feeling like sh*t. My H has functioned like this for years but I just can't hack it.. since lockdown I've been really hitting it hard and I've never felt so bad. It's a vicious cycle daily..! I get to 5/6 and think sod it. God knows how much money we've spent drinking like this. 😳

mummyof4kids · 28/07/2020 15:00

@lockdownlush I dread to think how much I've spent too. My DP doesn't drink half as much as I do so I won't have any influence to drink at home.
I've got the tummy of too much wine and rubbish food, I drink lager too which bloats me.
Feeling determined to do this although I know from past experiences that I start to waver after a couple of days, determined to do it though along with you lovely ladies
