Lockdown sober up...

Day 1 for me. I have been drinking too much wine during lockdown and want to stop - it’s just boring now instead of alleviating the boredom Confused I don’t drink every day but when I do I drink a lot and it’s not healthy. Just a thread for me to be accountable but anyone else feeling the same is obviously welcome Grin

Morning all 🌞
I'm still here, not been doing too bad but the wine has crept in a couple of times so I'm back to checking in here everyday to keep me on track.
Did all the school shopping yesterday, I'm not convinced they'll go back neither but at least they have all they need if they do.
Results day for eldest DD today, I'm nervous, she's not bothered lol!!
Hope you have a lovely day whatever you're doing

KobeWan · 20/08/2020 21:10

I've been very irritable today. Things that wouldn't normally bother me have been winding me right up. Won't bore you with the details! I found myself in the supermarket buying alcohol but have somehow managed to stop myself from having any. It's a small victory!

lockdownlush · 21/08/2020 10:10

Morning! Feel like death.. you can guess why. BBQ in the garden and a bottle of Prosecco 😞 I'm really cross with myself because I know how awful I feel the next day!! I need to find a way to stop myself thinking it will be OK.. today will be a tough day beating myself up and trying to put on a smile and entertain the kids in howling winds.

lockdownlush · 21/08/2020 10:11

@KobeWan well done!! How did you do it?? I'm almost tempted to put a sign on the fridge reminding me what the day after feels like.

KobeWan · 21/08/2020 10:59

Morning @lockdownlush! Hope you're starting to feel a bit better.
What I did was to have a right good moan to anyone who'd listen and then I felt a bit better!
I'm now thinking about my strategy for the weekend...

lockdownlush · 21/08/2020 21:48

Evening all, Friday night and I'm in bed by 9.30 with a cuppa. Still cross with myself for drinking yesterday. I've been having a bit of a think about my association with wine and I think I really need to steer clear. Never been concerned about my drinking ever, but now looking back over the past 2+ years it's crept up on me and it's been used to block other stuff out. I never really was like that in the past, bit of a party girl until the kids were born.. but then I became completely tea total for 5/6 years. One glass of wine and I'd be singing kylie 😆 now it's definitely masking stuff, lockdown has been the straw that broke the camels back if you like.. gosh I'm rambling (it helps I think)! I hope you all have some nice plans for the weekend xx

mummyof4kids · 23/08/2020 20:14

Hey all, 2 long shifts at work this weekend and I'm having a couple of glasses of wine.
I don't feel too bad about it but I'll only have a couple.
I've a busy week planned and I'll need to be up early so avoiding the wine should be easy this week.
Hope everyone's ok xx

KobeWan · 24/08/2020 22:13

I drank alcohol moderately on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I really enjoyed it and feel like I've had a bit of a mini-break. Back on the wagon today, won't drink again until next weekend. Going forward long term (but after the Bank Holiday weekend 😉) my aim is to only drink on one weekend evening. I want to do this up until Christmas when I might relax a bit.

KobeWan · 27/08/2020 09:27

Hi everyone!
I 'ate out to help out' last night. First drink was a soft drink but then when others had a pudding, I had a glass of wine.
When we got home, I was so tempted to continue drinking. I switched to coffee instead but then ended up ploughing through a load of chocolate. I'm swapping one vice for another! 🤦‍♀️
I feel like my drinking is pretty much back under control, but I'm really worried that returning to work next week will throw me off and I'll be back on the wine every night 'because I deserve it'.
How's everyone else getting on?

lockdownlush · 27/08/2020 10:29

Hello! I've managed to 'moderate' twice now by rewarding myself with one glass once I've sat down and dinner is made.. normally by 8pm! Kids are fed much earlier, bathed and then I tend to start round two of cooking 🙄 but worried as I'm off with my sis and the kids for a long weekend .. I really can't afford to go off the rails so I'm going to keep with my one drink rule with dinner.

Having said that @KobeWan I'm also stuffing a whole heap of treats .. and need to remember I'm trying to cut back on wine and calories!!!

Try and stick with the no booze rule mom-thurs next week, worth a go? I have one child going back to school one embarking on full tome HE.. I work from home for myself so I need to be super organised so I'm going to try and do the same.

mummyof4kids · 28/08/2020 05:32

Morning!
AF last night for me and was asleep by 10pm, it felt lovely to wake up clear headed this morning.
How's everyone doing?
I've been busy with work this week so I'm shattered, not really felt like drinking.
Today I'm planning on a bit of DIY we've been putting off for ages
Hope you're all ok x

Imissmoominmama · 28/08/2020 05:41

May I join? I had successfully kicked the booze from November until March, but now it’s back with a vengeance. I’m bloated and tired and I’ve had enough. I haven’t had anything for 2 days now- I want it to stay like that. My tolerance for alcohol is crap, so it doesn’t take much before I’m slurring my words.

Beroltheperil · 28/08/2020 05:59

Hello could I also join? I'm in the process of cutting down but really finding it hard. I have a lot going on physically and emotionally at the moment and I've been drinking half a bottle of wine a night. No nights off so far this week and its already Friday. I know if I have a night off I'll feel good and be pleased with myself and I'll do a few nights in a row. I really need to get to bed earlier because I'm chronically tired. I need support and inspiration!!

mummyof4kids · 28/08/2020 09:23

@Imissmoominmama @Beroltheperil
Welcome to you both.
I could easily drink a bottle of wine a night, and did so and still managed to get up the next day and be fine. During lockdown it was literally every night so I decided to curb it.
Don't get me wrong I do still drink but not in the amounts that I used to.
This thread is great for motivating each other and absolutely no judgement

KobeWan · 28/08/2020 10:49

Welcome @Imissmoominmama and @Beroltheperil!
Nothing to report - I'm having a lazy day so far. The weather's rubbish and I have a list of boring jobs to do.

Imissmoominmama · 28/08/2020 16:04

Thank you! I’ve just walked 9 miles over local fells. Last week’s walk was the morning after a bottle of red and I struggled- this week was a breeze (more of a gale actually 💨). Being hydrated is good for you! Smile

KobeWan · 01/09/2020 23:13

Hi everyone! Happy September! How are you all getting on?
I really enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and ate and drank what I wanted. Back on it today and ready to get into the routine of work and school, etc.
Weekdays will be sober from now until Christmas with moderate drinking on a Friday or Saturday (but not both). That's the plan, anyway!!

mummyof4kids · 01/09/2020 23:45

Hey all
@KobeWan I'm doing ok, had the same bank holiday as you lol. I'm ready for school routine now too, I find it much easier to not drink when I'm up for the school run next day.
No alcohol until Friday for me now.
Hope everyone else is ok

KobeWan · 09/09/2020 22:35

I'm not doing very well. Going back to work has thrown me off track.

mummyof4kids · 06/10/2020 14:34

Hey everyone, I'm back (again!)
Was doing well but old habits crept back in.
I'm currently on day 2. Although I wasn't quite as bad as before I've decided to come back and check in here with you ladies.
I've decided to stick to only drinking on weekends, if that doesn't work I'll have to go tee total I think.
How's everyone else doing?

Fallowdeerhunter · 08/10/2020 10:56

Hi all, I’m in day 5 after drinking around a bottle of wine 6/7 days a week during lockdown. I feel awful still - so exhausted and foggy...like a mild flu. Anyone else?

mummyof4kids · 09/10/2020 10:23

@Fallowdeerhunter I don't feel flu like, I actually feel ok and more energy.
Maybe you're coming down with a bug?

Fallowdeerhunter · 09/10/2020 18:44

No, not a bug just very tired. I feel a little better today, day 6!
