Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

I'm so sorry flossie what a shitty situation for you all. It can't be possible for her to do surely? Of course any possible integration and inclusion is really important but water sports just seems so extreme?

I'm currently having my own mini silent rage about a response for my elder son's school (nothing like your problems so excuse me for mentioning in the same post flossie). Crappy non-response to a plea along the lines of please can anyone have a frank and open conversation with me about my kid and let me know if you have any clue at all. Fuck, so annoying.

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 14:40

Leaving - is no one getting back to you? Have you got concerns?

leavingAqaba · 16/05/2019 15:35

flossie they got back but the response is a bit crap. I have had concerns since he was in reception but they increase every year (global learning difficulties). I just hate this constant up hill with the schools. He is year 4.

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 15:39

So sorry to hear that leaving. It’s hugely frustrating when communication is crap. Are they taking your concerns seriously? Have they looked into your concerns at all or just dismissed them?

Frouby · 16/05/2019 15:45

Awww Flossie, poor you and poor dd. It's so fucking unfair. Speak to the provider and see what they say. A compromise might be possible, could you take part with her? Can they provide a suitable adult to do 1 to 1s? If not is there something else she can donwhile the rest of the kids do that? Does she like horses? So find a local RDA and see if they will take her if you accompany her (providing obviously horses aren't a trigger). Or if you know she's fine on the beach maybe she does some of the activities but with you or an instructor on hand if she gets into difficulties.

Had a stinker of a day. HMRC have said all companies must submit VAT returns digitally now. But they don't provide the software so have to pay for a software provider. Chose Quickbooks as its supposed to be the best. If that's the best then fuck knows how bad the others must be.

And then although it will export the vat data all the other returns I assumed it did, it doesn't. It just adds everything up. But I can do that myself. And then I still have to log into HMRC and input it. Which defeats the fucking object because by the time I have double checked quickbooks figures, ai might as well just donit myself and save fucking logging them.

Fml. Spent all bastarding day doing that.

Won't be dry. Got to take dd shopping for school shoes yet.

Sorry to hear that leaving. I had concerns about Dd1 at the beginning of the year and I feel I was lucky that her school did take things seriously - I had a long heart to heart with the SENCO and although in the end we agreed to take no further action for the time being, I felt reassured rather than fobbed off at the end of the process. Do you think the school is generally a bit crap? Can you seek an opinion via a medical route too?

leavingAqaba · 16/05/2019 15:52

Thanks for listening flossie, it’s a long story which I’ll try and summarise, it might make me feel better! Expecting friends over now though...

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 16:27

Frouby - She’s anaphylactic to horses. 😑. She’s great on the beach. I think when I meet the provider tomorrow, I will expect an outcome of compromise!!
Sounds like you’ve had a massively frustrating day!! I wouldn’t be dry either!!

I certainly won’t be dry either. Dd has a 1:1 TA who’s said that she really doesn’t think dd should be looked after by anyone other than a nurse. Another reason to drum into me how shit this all is. I certainly won’t be dry tonight!! 😫

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 16:49

Omg what happened to my emoji’s?! They’re gigantic!!!!!

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 16:50

Oh they were. Now they’re tiny!! Hahahaha I promise I’m sober!! 😂

longestlurkerever · 16/05/2019 17:35

They do look quite gigantic on my phone Frouby! It does sound shit. I hope a compromise can be found. Would a nurse be an idea? Might actually give you all more freedom?

longestlurkerever · 16/05/2019 17:37

Flossie, I mean. Promise I haven't been drinking either!

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 18:05

It’s a funding issue. As always!! Can’t even get her an EHCP (new term for statementing) due to alledgedly her health not interfering with her education!! They must be on crack to think that!!

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 18:50

On a different note..I’ve convinced myself I have liver disease!! Ffs. Health anxiety always goes through the roof when I have other stresses going on!! Fml!!

NC4Now · 16/05/2019 18:57

My god Flossie that’s ridiculous re the EHCP. And Aqua. It is such a fight for children with SEN to get any support.

Flossie44 · 16/05/2019 19:12

Yes it’s been turned down 4 times!! They’re complete knobs!! She couldn’t go to school for 10 weeks due to no safe provision for her fgs!! But alledgedly this still has no impact!!

longestlurkerever · 16/05/2019 20:18

What total wankery Flossie. You probably don't tick a particular box. Is it worth getting specialist advice about it?

Frouby · 16/05/2019 20:24

Bloody hell Flossi3 that's a shit excuse. Have school supported you on this? Knobbers.

Today didn't get much better. Dd was late home from school (40 minutes) as she called at Tesco on her way home. She k ew we were going shoe shopping. Then I had to try and get an hour of work done while dcs squabbling, dh staring at his phone and dog trying to mug kids tea. Fml.

I might rent an office and fuck off there every day from 9am til 6pm, then I can avoid all the post school madness. And earn more money. If I could work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week I could earn £500 a week easily. But I am lucky if I get 4 hours a day in by the time I have done school runs, animals, shopping, cleaning etc. Seriously considering a cleaner. DH does do stuff, he does ds bedtime every night, will do ironing if I ask him, cooks on a Saturday and does the chickens if I ask. But realistically he's out of the house at 6.30am and not home til 5ish so he does work hard as well.

So I have had 2 gins, but am not too worried about that. And am considering a desert of some kind. Hopefully will be a fat free yoghurt, but that's not guaranteed 😜

Waterandlemonjuice · 16/05/2019 20:28

God Flossie they are wankerbastards of the highest order, I am sorry.

Waterandlemonjuice · 16/05/2019 20:29

Ps my iPad automatically guesses wankerbastard if i just type the first four letters 😂

Frouby · 16/05/2019 20:38

So does my phone. It gives me the choice of Wankerbastard Wankbastards or wankers 😂😂😂.

It also knows cunt and cunts. And knobber knobbers and knobhead.

It never knows if they should have commas or not tho. Strange that.

I miss a day and an evening, and so much happens...

Oh Flossie. flowers for your dd2. And for you, who always has to battle against other people's shrugging their shoulders. I can only imagine how exhausting it must be. Longest says it so well, Flossie. But you managed two nights AF, whatever the reason. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through. Hugs to you, and to both of your DDs.

It is two nights more than I have done. If I say I only had half a bottle of wine tonight, that will tell you how much I had last night (in company, at least). It was about a month's worth of units in one night. I woke up at 4AM with a hideous headache. Tomorrow is another day.

I am glad this thread has taught me 'knobbers' and 'wankerbastards'.

Another 17 hour day for me. Exhausted.

Waterandlemonjuice · 16/05/2019 21:40

💐💐 Dion, we’ve all done it, don’t beat yourself up!

longestlurkerever · 16/05/2019 21:40

Ugh I am exhausted too Dion. Got last training session out of the way and felt utterly drained by the whole thing. Not my comfort zone at all. Still, at least I won't have to repeat them for a while.

AF. Had bath and in PJs. Want to go to bed but have lost a letter I kind of need and can't relax till I have found it. Why am I so sodding disorganised?! Also bought bed on eBay for dd2 which seemed like a good idea at the time but it's a 2 hour round trip to fetch it.

Anyone doing anything nice this weekend? Dd1 is singing at a concert in the church which might be fun. That's pretty much all. Woodcraft folk are supposed to be giving out medals at a fun run so might take kids along to that. Rock n roll. But we are going to the seaside for a week next weekend so looking forward to that.

MadameForest · 17/05/2019 08:25

Flossie Leaving Longest sorry about all your child/school problems. Flossie, it must be a nightmare deciding about your DD. Of course you want her to live a normal life but you know better than anyone the potential life threatening consequences Flowers
Frouby Good luck with your VAT! Everything is even more complicated admin wise in France if that is any comfort to you.
Dion 17 hour day, you deserve a drink after that!
Not AF last night but just two glasses of wine after a 40km bike ride and an hour and a half cutting the grass when I got home from work.
DH emptied the septic tanks for me so deserved a glass of wine.
This weekend am working Saturday, DS has a party with 8 friends over, weather forecast not great which means the house will be filthy. Sunday if it is nice going out in the boat to fish for mackerel. DS will be thrilled, of course Grin
