Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Day 16 AF and BSD here.

This year I have had 68 AF days according to my app which means I’ve had 66 WITH drinking, which is good! I’m ahead!

Waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2019 09:20

cottonsock you are moderating really well, I bet you’re pleased.

frouby well done at 2lbs off and ha ha at banking a pound for next week 😂

NC4 at mums in general being tricky sometimes, mine can be too.

Leaving my dh has sleep issues too and I think it’s a stress symptom too. He sent me a TED talk which he’s trying, I’ll post a link in a minute

Dionysa that sounds moderate! It’s definitely not a binge! 🙂

longest good tip about the soup. Theres a BSD chorizo and spinach one that I used to make and take for lunch at work last year, I might make that again. I SO often get to 6 and CBA to make anything. Dh and dd often feed themselves. Enjoy Bristol, it’s a nice city!

Waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2019 09:21

CSWS, it was under a bottle, I think that’s moderating!

Waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2019 09:36

leaving here is the TEDX talk dh sent me, I’ve just watched it, interesting. Not sure if it’s working for my dh, will ask him later.

longestlurkerever · 14/05/2019 09:38

Missed train due to tube fuck up but blagged my way on to another one which should get me there if cutting it fine. Should really be working on train but WiFi is a bit temperamental so I can adopt a fairly leisurely pace I think.

leavingAqaba · 14/05/2019 09:46

Thanks water that’s really kind of you. Let’s compare notes Wink

Dionysa · 14/05/2019 10:37

Have fun in Bristol, Longest! Sadly no space for a freezer, but I love soup. Cooking just bores me. It'd be fine if I only had to do it once a month. I force myself to do it, though, so the DC don't starve.

Canshop, my moderation is more or less non-existent ATM (other than a couple of rare days). I sometimes lack the will even to try. Blush

longestlurkerever · 14/05/2019 11:30

God I am a total idiot. Got engrossed in tricky work thing , totally missed my stop and ended up in Wales! Am on way back now and may just about make it but am going to be in a flappy stress again!

NC4Now · 14/05/2019 11:43

Oh no Longest.... Godspeed!!

CottonSock · 14/05/2019 12:17

Wales is lovely, get off and spend a day :) Bristol is also pretty cool.

I'm a big soup maker, trying to adjust to making salad now the weather is better. I think it's less healthy with the dressing. I gained 4lbs by buying a new scales. Old ones (not very old) were obviously shite.

leavingAqaba · 14/05/2019 12:21

Or the new ones are lying bastards Wink

MadameForest · 14/05/2019 12:42

Leaving enjoy Bristol if you finally get there, it's beautiful I had many happy years there at university and a few years after.
Canshop please stay around this thread is for anyone who drinks a little even if they aren't always trying or dry!
Frouby congrats on your continued weight
Alcohol is terrible for sleep. I was AF last night and felt so much better today. Hopefully tonight too.
Dion if I didn't have to cook for others I'd live off twatting quiche or omelette and salad.

longestlurkerever · 14/05/2019 13:35

Made it! Unfortunately I am not really in Bristol proper but at the MoD base in the sticks. Still, is sunny at least and I can't possibly have such a ridiculous journey back, surely?! Leeds tomorrow, and weirdly they have given me a ticket going via York which feels counterintuitive but I will have a colleague with me do can't go so wrong!

Flossie44 · 14/05/2019 14:12

Frouby - your meals sound so nice!! I’d love someone to shop for me, and tell me what to cook each night..and I’d be happy!!
Dion - I cook for the dc about 5pm and then dh and I eat about 8:30. I’m sick of cooking a billion different meals each day/week!! Dd1 is veggie, dd2 eats anything!! I’m veggie and dh a carnivore but won’t eat veg!! It’s a complete pain in the arse meal planning!! I just don’t know what to cook ever! If I was just cooking for myself, I bung a load of veg into a pan with garlic and chilli, then add pasta or rice. Simple!! If only the others would eat that!!

Canshop - I cant moderate or go AF. I just can’t. I have no will power and my ‘fuck it’ button is just too big and easy to press. Stay with us..we are all here on the same journey but at diff stages.

Longest - a journey on a train alone sounds fabulous!!

Cotton socks - I’m with leaving..maybe the new scales are lying!!

Canshopwillshop · 14/05/2019 15:25

Thank you all for your lovely comments and making me feel better - I love this thread.

Cotton - I would definitely be blaming the new scales!

Longest - sorry but your train journey story made me laugh. Glad you made it.

Flossie - I’m with you on the veg and pasta, I’d love to just eat like that but I’ve got a bunch of carnivores for whom it’s not a proper meal if it ain’t got meat!

NC4Now · 14/05/2019 15:47

I feel tired and gloomy today. If this is what an evening of being AF does, I'm not sure I want it!

I'm off to see a solicitor about divorce options shortly. Haven't told DS2 where I'm going, and not sure whether to either. He will be sad.

I have gained another pound. They just keep piling on. Speaking to GP about getting this coil removed tomorrow. It's been really hard to shift any weight since I had the bastard fitted.

Waterandlemonjuice · 14/05/2019 18:00

NC4 good luck with solicitor. Sorry you’re feeling rubbish 💐

Flossie44 · 14/05/2019 18:20

Hope it goes ok for you NC4. I remember the pain when I went through my divorce. And it was me who actioned it. It’s painful however it’s done Flowers

Dionysa · 14/05/2019 18:49

I'll second that, Flossie. Hugs, NC4. And I agree about AF evenings.

Have had one can of G&T (M&S, so stronger than Aldi). Should not have any more, but who knows.

Cotton, stay with us. I am v glad you are back.

Longest, enjoy your scenic tour of the North of England!!

I have so much to do that I'm not sure where to start. FML.

Anglaise they would be my daily dinners, too!

MadameForest · 14/05/2019 20:35

NC4 Flowers Flowers I hope you are OK. AF is boring, and sometimes it takes a few consecutive nights to feel (and see) the benefits. Good luck tomorrow.
Dion did you manage to stop at one G&T? My DS is a little fussy (fish being the biggest problem) but everyone else eats everything which makes things easier.
AF again tonight, DP had a beer so I didn't have the temptation of an open bottle of wine. I can pass on every kind of alcohol except red wine!

Dionysa · 14/05/2019 21:02

Anglaise, I didn't stop at the tin, unfortunately. 17 hr days are taking their toll. But glad you have been AF. It's far better.

Frouby · 14/05/2019 21:11

AF for me tonight. Had a couple of becks blue, they were OK, not quite as nice as a cold beer but better than a can of diet coke.

We had fish tonight, morrisons has an offer on cod loin, £10 per kg which is really cheap. £4.64 a lb in old money lol. Had it with new jersey potatoes, roasted med veg and broccoli and asparagus. Had a tiny bit of parsely sauce. Was absolutely lush.

Been super busy all day. Went to allotment first thing with ds, then dropped him at school, went to ponies, did a big shop and put all that away. Then put washing out, another load on, tidied round. Did an hours work. Picked ds up, hoovered through everywhere, washing back off line and then did dinner for ds, then dinner for me and dh.

Just watching more LOD. On series now. Wanted to limit myself to one a night but on my second one tonight.

OP posts:
Flossie44 · 14/05/2019 21:23

Was af last night due to being ill the night before. Had the choice tonight. Dh has a beer and offered to pour me a glass of wine. I refused!!!!! Wtaf!! I REFUSED wine?!!!!! Soda water with cut lemons and limes in instead!! What’s happened to me?!

NC4Now · 14/05/2019 22:36

Good times Flossie!! Is that two AFs?
Solicitor was ok. Just a ton of info. I can’t decide whether to go for a full financial disclosure or just cut my losses. He bought me out of the house 50/50, we have no shared savings or assets, kids are mine etc etc. My pension is spannered but that isn’t really his problem. But I put aside the fact I was his wife. Wife. Wow.
DS2 is sad, as predicted, and was super angry, but we went for tea at our local and he gradually melted.
Their dad (not XH) and his wife, are looking into flights to join us on holiday for a few days. The boys love that idea. I do too. We all get on great these days. God knows how, it was a nightmare 10 years ago, but we’re sorted and I reckon it will be a laugh if they can sort flights.
So we’ll see.
Not AF tonight. Tomorrow, I promise.

Dionysa · 14/05/2019 22:46

Yay, Flossie!! More than I have managed.

NC4, how gruelling for you. Hugs. Divorce is shit - but what a great thing that your boys' dad (and his wife) are ok. That will make a big difference to your boys.

The problem with solicitors is that it's in their financial interests to pursue stuff. I could have got more out of XH. However, it would have cost me about the same in solicitors' fees - which, of course, means that would have been money not available for the DC. So in the end we sacked the solicitors and settled it between ourselves. It was a horrendous period, though.
