Alcohol support

Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Has everyone else got glorious sunshine? It’s beautiful here. I’ve been working this morning. Moderation isn’t going well this week, but at least the horrible dark clouds are lifting a bit for me.
I need to clean up but I’m tired, so I might have a nap first. Likewise the gym.
Good luck for the National Frouby. Dion are you doing it too?

Frouby I remember that. For the practice session we took the regulation school canvas tent between 2. It was ridiculous. For the real thing we chipped in for a lightweight tent and all four of us squeezed in. The whole area flooded and the roads on our map turned into full on rivers. It was hell. We survived though.

No, is cloudy here. In Cambridge visiting dsis. On way to pub

Cloudy here in France too.
I've been looking at the photos of the Grand National. British women are really tough. How they can stand being dressed in flimsy summer dresses with no jacket or coat in sight is beyond me. I'm at least 400 miles south of Aintree and am in a jumper, coat, jeans and boots today, it isn't warm!

I am a happy little matched bettor after the Grand National. Was about £170 in profit this morning and then after the race £680 up. Mainly due to extra places coming in which is just pure luck.

Obviously had a drink watching it and dh sacked tea off and we had a takeaway instead. Which I will regret tomorrow but sill still be massively up.

Dd not home and had no phone calls so assume she has done the hike and is in a tent somewhere in the pennines. Hope she is warm enough, told her to put her thermals on as soon as they got there even if she was still warm as she was freezing as soon as they stopped on the practice hike. And once you get cold it's hard to get warm.

Have told her if she decides to do the silver to team up with the biggest 2 girls that are doing it so they can split the load.

Am off to bed shortly, it's been an emotional day. Profitable but emotional. Especially because I am watching BGT and the school kids that have just been on had me in absolute floods of tears. 😭😭😭😭

I admire your DD taking on DofE. Hope she gets on ok. Have just waved my DD off on a weeks ski trip with school so am feeling v emotional too!

Too much wine again but had fun with dsis. Laughed properly for first time in ages. I do love dsis. I got lucky there as we share a mum who is Hard Work. Dsis takes after my late DF though who expected nothing from anyone and was just a pleasure.

Kids were horrors all day mind, and are sharing a bed which is normally recipe for disaster, but they settled eventually. Better get off to sleep though as they are likely to wake at dawn and we are sleeping in the living room so no chance of sticking them in front of the telly and going back to bed.

Bet the kids skiing and camping are having a ball. Dd is in the choir now after me lobbying for a term and a half! They’re doing an evening concert in May.

Evening all.

Dry here thank fook. Have had far too much this weekend and feel shocking for it. Ha e had a headache all day, self inflicted so no sympathy for myself.

Dh got manflu. Fml. Full cacophony of poorly noises, the death shuffle in his slippers and dressing gown and dramatic sneezes and groans.

If that fucker doesn't go to work in the morning I won't be held responsible.

Dd back from her d of e. Filthy, exhausted, aching like mad but enjoyed it I think. She devoured her sunday roast and I think she has fallen asleep already, she needs a bath though so am going to have a shower then wake her up.

Frouby - omg well done to your dd. That’s totally hardcore. Admirable to say the least!! And to you. You must’ve been bricking it!! Did dh go to work?? His ‘death shuffle’ made me laugh out loud!! Grin

Canshop - dd will have an amazing time on her ski trip. My ds did when he went a few years back. It was hideous as a mum though. Flowers

I’ve has a virus for about 5 days now. Head to toe aches and pains. Sore throat, heavy painful chest etc. Basically felt utterly shit. Did I have sympathy from dh ?! Pah..not a chance!! He was more pissed off than anything!! Every time I tried to sit down, or even think of sneezing..he had other thoughts. Yesterday he went off with dd to do some jobs, and told me that he was working hard while I evidently ‘chilled’. I went mad. Smoke came out my ears. So I forced myself to clean the house, make a banana loaf with dd and go to the recycling centre!!!!
In 21yrs of being together, I have NEVER asked him to take over the kids or help me out while I crawled under the duvet!! I’ve never asked him for help!! Yesterday I felt so shit..and I still made him a sodding sausage sarnie for breakfast before he went out!!

Hence....I haven’t been dry....in fact I haven’t moderated!!

Morning all. Any chance I could join?
Sick to death of drinking daily out of habit more than anything. I always feel so much better when I don't drink, more energy and motivation, better moods etc, but then come evening I think why not? And crack open a bottle. Then go to bed feeling pissed off that I didn't abstain. And then feel like shit come the morning. It's a cycle I'm wanting to break.

Darkheart welcome. We are all in similar places. I drink nearly every night too, I really need to cut down. Most of us do and we are all trying.

Dh not been to work. I think he wishes he did now though 😂😂😂. He's done some more fence painting, done the glossing in the bathroom and has a drawer to mend on his chest of drawers later.

He's now collapsed on the sofa whining about being hungry. Fml, they are worse than kids.

Washing machine repairman coming this afternoon. I really really really need it mending. Have washing everywhere.

Haven't worked today, trying to get my house clean. I am planning a mass declutter session over the easter holidays. Clothes, toys, paperwork, junk. Off to ikea on Thursday for a kallax for ds room and giving it a major overhaul.

Oh and I finally bought blinds. Last quote was £410 so went with that as its not a great deal more expensive than buying and fitting ourselves. Dh was very relieved.

Thanks Flossie. Sorry you are feeling rubbish and your DH is not pulling his weight - dickhead blokes! Hope you feel better soon. How is the burning throat feeling now?

Frouby - I hope the washing machine is sorted.

Welcome Darkheart.

I am missing DD like mad. I’ve had one text which simply said ‘we’ve arrived’ and had a photo of the mountain view from her room but that’s it. Obviously I’m glad that she’s not missing me too much (I think).

Not dry here. Was DH’s birthday at the weekend so had lots. I also find it hard when the kids are off school as I go into holiday mode so have a bottle of white chilling for later. Will share it with DH though so only a couple of glasses each.

Hello everyone, I haven’t been posting as I've been shit at moderating or being AF...

Just looked at my dry January app for March and I had 10 AF days in March and 2 so far in April, including today. And I feel rubbish for it, so really need to sort it out. Had a nightmare on Saturday involving my imminent death, obviously connected.

Anglaise, congratulations! Just skimmed the old thread and saw your news 🙂

Will read to see how everyone else is now.

Have finally read everything. What a lot to catch up on!

Welcome from me too, Lellow and Darkheart. Darkheart, are you sure I didn't write your first post for you?!

Bloody Hell, Frouby. I am in awe of your winnings. I'd have been taking gin in a tin to DofE, too. I'm jealous of your DD doing it. Mine prefers to spend her time usefully, watching eyebrow tutorials on YouTube.

Chooco, I also must have Easter on my mind, as I turned you into Choco, too. Sorry! 3 AF nights is excellent. I suffer from anxiety, too, so I know how you feel.

Anglaise, it sounds as if you are back on track.

Longest, I'm glad the infection is clearing up. And thanks for telling me where my post went!!

Flossie, big hugs to you for your virus, and a kick up the bum to your DH.

NC4, v glad to hear about blood results, but not so glad to hear that you are feeling down. Flowers

Canshop, I hope you're getting over the car smash. They are just horrible.

Here, I barely have a minute to do anything ATM, with both DC here. They have both resorted to toddler behaviour (they are about 14 years too old for this, for newcomers' info). Every time I give attention to one, the other needs me NOW, THIS MINUTE. If I say they need to wait a minute, I get the whole "you prefer him/her" thing. FML a thousand times over. DD's friends are all away, so she is hanging around the house like a hanging around thing. DS's friends aren't local. So arguing with one another is the only thing worth doing.

Anyway.

I managed Day One on Sunday, following an entire bottle of red on Saturday. Yesterday, I was full of good intentions, and had half a bottle of white.

However... I ordered my miracle wonder-herb on Saturday, and it arrived on Sunday (I paid 99p extra for an Amazon Prime week's trial). I have taken four of the buggers today - and I have not drunk the other half bottle. Ha! I am now completely reformed, and will never drink again. 😂😂😂 I'm bloody determined that this herb is going to work, as it cost me the best part of £30 (though given the amount I have spent on gin in the past couple of years, it's peanuts really).

It helps that DP is away with work, so he can't put temptation in my way. But this is two nights out of three, which is (for me) a big achievement.

Dark - welcome.. We are all on the same journey and will walk alongside you.

Water - good to hear from you. My throat is good thanks. Think was start of ‘the virus’!!

Had half a bottle tonight. Pretty proud. Now eating dd’s chocolate while she in bed (she will go mad but I’m prepared!) and drinking tea!!

Welcome dark heart!

Fab news on DD liking DofE Frouby. Can shop hugs - I kept looking forlornly at dd1's empty bed when she was away, much as she's a pita when she's here!

School holidays now. Mil is here to mind the DC tomorrow. She's very helpful but also stressful. She's mad at me for not maintaining the order she imposed on dd's wardrobe. I told her it wasn't sustainable. That didn't go down well. Ah well. I shall enjoy the clean kitchen I come home tomorrow and ignore the judgment.

Dion you made me lol re DD and eyebrow tutorials. Good luck with the herbs. I am slipping over your squabbling post with my fingers in my ears because it sounds just like my dds and I cannot imagine yeaesore of this! Sympathy and herbal pills.

Have been up since silly o'clock doing brexit shift so off to bed now, though may watch fleabag in bed. Night night!

Longest, I think mine will be like this when they are old (though they both say they won't be speaking to one another ever again, as soon as they move out). Good luck with MIL.

Herbal Day One is over. Just noticed the bottle says "Alcohol Support" on it in big letters, and it has been standing on the worktop all day. FML.
