Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Are you French Longest? I'm sure your daughter would love summer poney camp. The boat looks fun. DP bought a little motor boat yesterday for the sea (we are surrounded by it here in Brittany) so we can go out fishing in the good weather. Assuming we have some.
The medicine I've been talking for my thyroid has led to a little weight gain so I need to stop the wine and chocolate intake now. Even running 100km a week I've put on 3kg 😳 Running is a lot easier thanks to the drugs now but having DP here all the time means I have less time for swimming and cycling. I agree that swimming outdoors is more fun, like all sport for me. I don't get the endorphin rush from a gym.
Frouby good luck with fat club! Maybe you could try the one month plank challenge for your core strength ? It isn't always easy to find the time to swim and pool opening hours are sometimes
inconvenient.
Flossie my brother is a yoga addict. He has found it very useful...he gave up alcohol 15 years ago although I don't really think he had a real problem other than living with a woman he didn't love and worrying that drinking would lead him to cheat on her.

longestlurkerever · 28/04/2019 10:22

No i am not french Mme F. Just spent lots of holidays there, failing to perfect my French. DM has a flat in Provence though it is rented out at the mo, and I did some of my legal training in the Paris office years ago. One of my friends from back then is coming over with her two girls this week. They are more French than English.

MadameForest · 28/04/2019 11:12

Longest Doing legal training in Paris must have been fun! The term mademoiselle has disappeared from all administrative documents now, so all women are madame even if they aren't married.
It's funny about your friend's daughters. Mine was 18 months old when we moved to France and I would say she is more British than French. My son on the other hand who was born here is definitely more French. My daughter is horrified by the thought of anal sex so definitely more British Grin

NC4Now · 28/04/2019 11:19

I’m still baffled by the French love of anal sex. I must be a true Brit 😂

Flossie44 · 28/04/2019 11:32

Yup..I’m totally British!! 😂

Frouby · 28/04/2019 12:19

Yeah 100% British here.

It's not for me. Tried it once. It's on the same list as Tripe. Had a go to see what the fuss is about. Then filed under Don't Even Fucking Think About It.

One more window to do. DH obviously taken his bollocking yesterday on board. He's been to the allotment for 2 hours with DS, then just come home and collected the dog and headed off to the park.

Pmsl at don’t even think about it

And ahhhhh at all the people who like being married, me too. I’m very happy being married, dh is fab.

Wine fear last night, feel shit. My own fault. Looking forward to day 1AF tomorrow and to being kinder to myself.

Flossie44 · 28/04/2019 16:24

Already bought my bottle for tonight!! Have moderated for the last few days. 2 glasses only so not horrendous. Just be good if I could do better than that really!!

Frouby - love it when they take it on board. They look like puppies walking around, scared they’ll get told off!!

Dionysa · 28/04/2019 18:25

Catching up, as I was out last night.

I think I am really French Grin.

I also had wine fear last night, water. Still, school starts for DD on Tuesday, so things should be a bit less stressy then. Determined to start the new regime tomorrow, in advance of early starts, so we will see where that gets me.

I still call myself Mrs because I liked being married, albeit not to XH.

Glad your DH is behaving himself, Frouby. Am going to catch up with all the other news later, but love the photo, Longest!

Flossie44 · 28/04/2019 19:26

You think you’re French, Dion 😱😱

Frouby · 28/04/2019 20:28

Oooooh Dion 😜😜😜😜😜. Saucy bugger.

I had 2 glasses of wine earlier while I cooked dinner. Be the last for a while I hope. Not done too bad this weekend. 3 beers friday, and then a bottle of wine over today and yesterday.

Dd just been and flounced. Wants to change her bedding because it's sunday night and she always changes her bedding Sunday night. However, she only changed it Tuesday. So although her quilt and pillowcase is clean and dry, her sheet is in the washing pile still, waiting for a full load of whites. Apparently it's my fault for not having extra single white sheets for her. However she forgets that she threw 2 away as she didn't have room to store them as she wanted her room clutter free. She forgets she has a decent sized room all to herself and is expected to keep her own bedding sets and so on in there. I would like all my house clutter free but 4 people live here.

So now she has flounced because sunday and no clean sheets are available for her. She has done fuck all to help with housework or chores all holidays because revision. Which seems to involve laying on the bed an awful lot talking to her mates via skype (again revision apparently) and watching boxsets on netflix.

I think we need a tryers weekend away. Lets leave all our families and husbands and dps and dcs to fend for themselves for a few days. We could go help Madame forest move house!

Flossie44 · 28/04/2019 20:36

Omg frouby.....imagine the lot of us away together!! 😂😂. Pissing myself just thinking of us!! We’d have a fine selection of gins and wines!! Hey Madame forest....have you still got your gites?? We could keep you going for the summer 😂😂 Frouby could supply us with curry and twatting quiche and we could promise to wash the pots in return.

MadameForest · 28/04/2019 21:08

Yes my gîtes are still here and thanks to Brexit there are a few weekends in my house for 12 available....you are all welcome of course, wine and twatting quiche essential (it's my favourite meal) anal sex not

MadameForest · 28/04/2019 21:12

Frouby new house far from ready to move into, buying takes a ridiculous amount of time in France.

Dionysa · 28/04/2019 21:14

Sorry, DD is twittering at me - but bloody Brexit, MadameF.

MadameForest · 28/04/2019 21:29

Dion yes indeed bloody Brexit to put it mildly.
And thank you for my new name I'm sure it was you who used it first 😉👍

longestlurkerever · 28/04/2019 21:41

Ooh, gite holiday I am up for. Anal sex not so much. I think I have quite a high sex drive really but very vanilla tastes!

Had nice afternoon with boozy friends. They are journalists NC4 so it's a professional oblige really.

We talked about mutual friend of £3 million quid house fame of a few posts back. He had a serious health issue a few years back and drs told him he couldn't have it all - drinking, stressful job, lots of exercise, something had to give. He chose drinking and has been AF for 7 years or so and has sold a successful business and run an ultra marathon since. I really don't think I would have made the same choice, even if I'd known it was worth £3 million quid and the ability to retire before 40. It makes you think. But then again what is life for, if not boozy Sunday afternoons with friends? Not ultra marathons, surely? It's a quandary really.

NC4Now · 28/04/2019 23:23

Well I know which I’d choose. Clue: it’s not the marathon. Journalists are a right lush bunch Longest. Our reputation is not unfounded.
I am congratulating myself of charging up my FitBit ready for the week ahead. That’s about as close as I’m getting to an ultra marathon.
Hoping for a calm one all round, for all of us. Failing that, I’ve got a couple of years on my passport. Viva la France 🇫🇷 🍾🍑

MadameForest · 29/04/2019 05:36

Longest NC4 I'd choose a marathon or ultra on a Sunday Blush the high you get after finishing endurance races like that is amazing and continues for several days after. I can't wait to get back to racing again. Although boozy Sunday afternoons are fun too but in a different way.
Going to try to be AF in the week and definitely cut out chocolate. 3kgs to go to be more comfortable in my jeans.

NC4Now · 29/04/2019 08:39

I used to get a buzz out of spinning. Not like a marathon but it was good by my standards. I’ve never been athletic, would skive PE at school etc, so just surviving a spin class was quite a feat, and I loved it.
I’m determined to get my fitness back up. At the moment I’m scared to even attempt a class, but I’m joining you on the AF week nights Madame. I’ve gained a stone since November, so it needs to happen.
Starting with walking to work today. 40 minutes with a steep hill halfway.
It’s not a marathon, but it’s a start...

Frouby · 29/04/2019 09:34

NC you will be surprised what those walking calories add up to. I try and walk to school and back twice a day and if I do its nearly 10k steps and about 300 calories I think.

Been on scales this morning. A big fat 13st and 10lbs. At 5ft 5in that's obese and the heaviest I have ever been when not pg or pp. Am owning it and getting it off. Fatclub enrollment tonight, as AF as possible and lots of fruit and veg. The annoying thing for me is it's not what I eat, will probably be packing away more calories on sw it's all lager. And wine.

So even though my diet won't change that much doing sw, I will drop the lbs as lager is a big, fat 8syns per can, and I think a bottlw of wine is 20 odd. I just need the accountability of sw to keep me going.

Aiming for 10lbs off in 3 weeks, then down to 12st 7lbs by the start of the summer holidays.

Dcs back to school this morning. Thank fook. Am going to tidy the house, have my new blinds fitted, try and do a big shop this afternoon and then take ds swimming. Then feed everyone and get to fatclub for 7pm.

Then back to working tomorrow, get the ponies fit, get rest of seeds sown on allotment, get my year end done for the business and generally get shit done.

Won't have time to fecking eat, let alone get pissed 😂😂😂

longestlurkerever · 29/04/2019 10:06

I have no ambition to run a marathon ever. I would like to be able to run 5k regularly without feeling I am going to die, and am open minded about building up to 10k, but I think I need to go back to basics and build my core or whatever it is because I keep injuring myself when I try to run. Swimming is fab, but a bit more time consuming. I am contemplating joining the leisure centre that has the lido attached. 2x kids swimming lessons there would be £52 a month, and for £91 I can get family membership for me plus girls which would include their lessons,. unlimited lido, soft play, indoor pool, gym and gym classes ( which I doubt I would use much) and they would do 2x birthday parties at swimming or soft play which is worth quite a bit but dd1 has her heart set on the trampoline place. Hmm. Am also attempting to save money so DH can go part time and park run plus occasional swimming is cheaper,
more hmm.

I need to lose weight and get fit too though. I don't know why I have suddenly become so undisciplined about drinking. I was doing well with half a bottle max ever since I joined this thread but now I am breaching it nearly every time, and feeling it the next day. If I promise here not to do it any more will you promise to tell me off,? You're all so lovely I can't imagine you being cross with me so I end up being lame.

Going back to old job next week which will be a lot busier than this one has been recently.

Flossie44 · 29/04/2019 11:29

Frouby - I have every faith in you that you can do this!! I really do!! Come on girl!! Know I’ve said it before, but I will walk by your side and do it too!! I’m sick of being overweight. It’s difficult to put my shoes on, bend in half. In fact I feel so bloated that even my bra feels tight ffs. I generally feel soooo uncomfortable these days!! I’ve decided to try and cut out bread again. That makes noticeable difference to my tummy fat. I need to cut the wine down too. As you say, that’s mega calories and syns. I wish I could come to fat club with you. It’s hard for me to get to one. I also need someone I can go with who will kick me up the arse a bit!!
After my treadmill session yest, and before I did some yoga..I walked into the kitchen to get some water....saw the chocolate biscuits and stuffed 2 in my face...then went off and did yoga!! Ffs. Why the hell did I do that?!?! It’s like I’m bloody possessed!!

Frouby · 29/04/2019 11:50

See I am ok with food. Don't particularly have a sweet tooth, not bothered about snacking, prefer homemade to processed stuff etc. It's purely alcohol that does me. It's a good job it has so many calories really, because if it didn't and I was skinny I would just keep drinking. Because I love it.

Have you looked at online membership? I did that when ds was little. It was ok, not as effective as a weekly weigh in but better than nothing.

House is sparkly clean, just downstairs loo to wipe round. Hoping he comes on time to do these blinds so I can rally to tescos. Need a card and present for my auntie, plus something for tea tonight. Won't have time to go to aldi for a big shop today though and want to check sw book for syns in cereal and stuff. Think quite a bit changed since I did it last.
