Thread 4 for support, tips, tricks and friendship as we reduce our alcohol intake even more. For anyone who wants to reduce, stop, moderate or even just track their drinking.

Absolutely no judgement, just support. Everyone welcome.

Previous threads somewhere but am rubbish at clicky links.

Old tryers and new dryers, welcome to our thread. The one that starts in February and will see us all hit our goals as we move forwards.

Welcome back Nikita - I’m going to google the military diet as I would love to lose half a stone before Easter. Seems like whatever weight I’ve been in my life I’ve always wanted to be half a stone lighter 🤔 it’s creeping up a bit now and I really need to do something. Good luck with it.

Flossie - happy birthday to your DH and DD - have a lovely day.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 09:42

Well..... nothing says FML life like a school refusing teenager. It’s going to be one of those days .... 🤦‍♀️

Canshopwillshop · 05/03/2019 13:07

Oh no NC4 - I’m not sure I’d know how to handle that one! Take away phone etc ..?

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 13:47

I’ve got him there at lunchtime. It’s hard, it’s an ASD thing, but he needed space to climb down from the anxiety.
I feel for him. He needs some early nights.

waterandlemonjuice · 05/03/2019 14:00

💐 NC4 and well done for getting him there

Happy birthday to those in your house Flossie

Wb Nikita. 💐

Today is day 2 - taking dd to counselling tonight, she is not good but it is helping I think so we will keep going. Will come home and take straight to my bed. I slept well although dreamt I was best mates with Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo, that’ll be catching up with Greys Anatomy last night.

waterandlemonjuice · 05/03/2019 14:06

Just worked out that so far this year I’ve been dry on 38 days, including today and have had drinks on 26 days. That’s way too much, given that I’m a terrible binger. On some of those 26 days I’ve been moderate but on far too many I havent. Sigh.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 14:36

Happy birthday Flossie fam. And welcome back Nikita.
Water I don’t even know how I’d work out my wet:dry ratio, and I’m not sure I want to.
Day three here. We’re having Sunday’s roast tonight because I ballsed up the Tesco delivery. I’m looking forward to it already!

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 15:51

Oh bless him, he just bought me a Dairy Milk (my favourite) on his way home from school to say sorry.

Happy Pancake Day Tryers 🥞.

Had 2 lagers and 2 glasses of wine last night post woodchip hell. Am ok with that and will be dry tonight to make up for it.

Had dh off all day today. He was supposed to finish moving woodchip, pick some paint up and make a serious start on redecorating the bathroom.

What he actually did was move woodchip, pick up paint and some timber and then piss off to allotment for 3 hours making some beds up and generally fannyarsing around up there. Obviously his priorities are making the allotment looking pretty rather than the house look smart. Tosser. But at least he was out from under my feet most of the day.

Kids want pancakes for tea, dh had a massive sarnie earlier so instead of making something proper am going to make chip butties with proper chips, then various pancakes for pudding.

Very calorie ladden and carby but will chuck some fruit on the pancakes and hope for the best. Least it's an easy tea 😂

Hello! Hugs to NC4 for a crap morning. Glad you have dairy milk, what a sweetie. Water that doesn't sound so bad? Do you have a target %age.

Happy pancake day Frouby. I made the kids pancakes for breakfast. Had bargain veggie curry buffet with my mum for lunch (£6.95 all you can eat, half price for kids and is properly good) and the best thing is it doesn't serve alcohol so efforts to be dry were not foiled. Taking DC to woodcraft folk pancake campfire thing later so can also probably get away with sarnie tea or similar.

DH still moping around ill. Not sure what to do about him really. He had been better on his treatment and the scans and bloods came back clear. Sigh.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 17:46

I’m not a fan of pancakes. I’m waiting to see if either of them remembers, and if they do remind them I expect them to come home with their ashes tomorrow if they want them.

Loving reading about where people are especially given that, after growing up in SW England and university in Edinburgh, I’ve been overseas for over 20 years. My kids think Europe is a place that you go on holiday to visit grandparents. They don’t seem aware it’s an actual place year roundGrin
I too read that 20 unit stuff and got pissed off about it. frouby I can get to 25 units on a good week but that’s a good week, a bottle of wine one weekend night, 3 nights half a bottle, 3 AF. But like I say that’s good, this week far over with both weekend nights over a bottle each. water I’m a binger too. Then I spend the weekend days pretending I don’t have a hangover. FML

leavingAqaba · 05/03/2019 18:07

NC a Scottish friend of mine got his first lecturer job in your town. I never visited him there, he did seem a bit shell shocked about the place. ‘Twas in the 90’s.

longestlurkerever · 05/03/2019 19:09

Actually I remembered I have relatives there too, though a bit more distant. My dad's cousins.

How can you not like pancakes though??

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 19:16

Ah well, in the 90s I can see how he was shell shocked. It was a bit rough round the edges, with a massive self esteem problem.

Pancakes are just a bit shit. I’m not keen on anything battered really. The occasional Yorkshire pud is as far as I’ll go.

Why doesn’t Aunt Bessie make pancakes? That’s what I want to know. She’s got the mixture ready. It’d save a whole load of washing up and faff.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 19:25

My boys are being bloody gorgeous together tonight 💙
I’m trying to get us back into eating at the table. We always did but exH put a stop to it. We’ve just had a lovely roast and now I can hear them giggling upstairs.
They’re great kids.

longestlurkerever · 05/03/2019 19:29

You can buy ready made pancakes. They're not really the same though. For some reason we are attempting to cook them over a camp fire. There is much lighted stick waving going on. My blood pressure is sky high.

leavingAqaba · 05/03/2019 19:30

Eating at the table is a great thing. Remind me of their ages if you don’t mind?

leavingAqaba · 05/03/2019 19:32

longest kids and fire Shock yep I have some stories.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 19:46

They are nearly 17 and 13.

Oh god yes, kids and fire. That said, I love a good fire. It would massively improve my pancake experience. I love all your outdoorsy adventures Longest.

longestlurkerever · 05/03/2019 20:16

I think perhaps we London parents overcompensate a tad! Dashing off to build fires on a school night, i have also not got the hang of avoiding the smoke! Was fun though. My kids weren't actually too feral for once - it was other people's kids I was shrieking at to put the flaming stick down. Dd1 did keep scaling an enormous log pile that I wasn't sure was secure though. Still, risk taking is meant to be good for them o think?!

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 20:33

Risk taking is really good for them. My two were talking about a rope swing they had a few summers ago, earlier.
They had a BMX track they dug in the woods that summer too.
Makes me mad when people go on about ‘kids these days, sitting on their Xbox’s’ and being antisocial.
DS1 does his own version of Forest School (feral school?) 😳

Roses are red, we like Becks Blue, Tryers to be Dryers push on through. 2019 will be our Valentine.
longestlurkerever · 05/03/2019 21:15

Cool! Obviously we are a bit more limited here but my house backs on to a train line and the neighbours and I habe "borrowed" a bit of the embankment to make a kind of femced off wild area for den building and so forth. In the summer I don't see dd1 for dust.

Anglaise1 · 05/03/2019 21:16

NC4 think yourself lucky you don't live in Brittany if you don't like pancakes. The regional dish here is either galettes (savoury) or crêpes (sweet) and there are crêperies everywhere to eat them. For every social event there is galette saucisse (a sort of Breton hotdog I suppose, a sausage in a savoury pancake with either mustard or ketchup). I love them now.

NC4Now · 05/03/2019 21:41

My god, Anglaise!! I am never moving to Brittany 😂
