New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

Frouby - please blog the frouby house!! I love it!!!!!!

NC4Now · 24/01/2019 22:55

Oh god, so do I Canshop. I have to be at an appointment with DS1 at 8.30 so there’s no room for messing around.

Zofloramummy · 24/01/2019 23:31

Hi everyone, I’ve just been catching up on the thread.
I’m still in hospital, it is now confirmed that it’s my gallbladder, I have gallstones and an infection. So I’m on IV antibiotics and will need it removed at some point soon.
Feeling tired, grumpy and very hungry as I’ve been on a clear fluid only diet for 2 days (unfortunately gin and tonic doesn’t count lol!)

Frouby · 25/01/2019 06:27

God you don't want me blogging about my house. Jesus fuck. It would be a mix of Carry On Cleaning Up After Lazy Bastards, Only Fools And Horses and Auf Weidersen Pet Vs It's A Good life, It Can Only Happen To A Vet and fucking Bing.

Can hear dd and dh plotting for ways to get me to spend money this weekend. We are Cutting Back and Tightening Our Belts for a few months after a spendy Christmas. They are both Bored and Need Things this weekend. DH wants some new trainers to go with the 14 pairs he already leaves lying around and dd needs more make up.

Apparently we are going for a Big Shop at Morrisons on Saturday morning, then for some breakfast at Frankie and fecking Bennies then can go round the retail park for these Essential Things.

What neither realise is ds has a birthday party to go to Saturday morning and I am doing an aldi big shop this afternoon when dh gets home from work.

The dog is barking at dh because she wants her bowl of milk (which I have banned) and I can hear dd making toast, moaning about aldi lurpak and probably scattering toast crumbs on every worktop which will be the fault of the toaster because its red and not cream like the rest of the kitchen stuff.

And this is all before 7am. Fml.

Not dry tonight. 4 days this week if I dont count the last glass of prosecco I had on sunday which I am not counting. Yay me.

Forgot to say get well soon Zoflora. At least you are dry I suppose. Every cloud and all that.

I had renal colic once. Thought I was dying. Never came back though thank fuck. I woke dh (then dp) in the middle of the night, curled up on bedroom floor, crying and nearly passing out from pain. He asked if I was due on. Twat.

And you married him frouby............ Sorry been awol. Internet problems but am back now. I think all of us have been having a hard time. The thing is it builds and builds and we don't necessarily realise how much we are coping with. Feel we should be coping and then drink. I saw the doctor the other day. Went through everything that has happened and you could see the shock on her face. She said it was amazing I was even upright. Think for me it needs to be lots of self care including cutting the wine. X

Dionysa · 25/01/2019 07:53

Never mind a blog, Frouby: you need to write a book. At least my DC aren't the only ones who moan about Aldi Lurpak. In fact they moan about everything that doesn't come in a branded package, even if the Aldi equivalent tastes exactly the same.

Zoflora, that sounds v painful. IV antibiotics are foul.

NC4, Swampy is a bugger. I hope you manage to get your DS2 into school ok.

Mollysmummy, 28 days is amazing. I don't think I will ever get to that stage - but what I wonder is whether it's easier to moderate once you've done such a long stretch AF, or whether old habits just return?

CottonSock · 25/01/2019 08:19

I had a shit night after drinking the almost bottle of wine. I did save a tiny glass, so guess that's progress..why didn't I stop at half a bottle. Didn't sleep well and felt a bit shit all day. Had a few drinks yesterday and probably 1 tonight. Away weekend so this is not a good week

Zofloramummy · 25/01/2019 08:55

Good news this morning I’m being allowed home. Bad news I’ll be back in a few weeks for surgery and meantime I have to eat a low fat/no fat diet. At least I can get some proper sleep at home.

NC4Now · 25/01/2019 10:13

That’s good news, sort of Zoflora. Hospital’s horrible isn’t it?
My day has got off to a reasonable start -DS2 has gone to school after a good parents evening. I’ve taken DS1 for his PIP assessment. I’ll be amazed if he gets an award but the DWP lady told us to apply because he got child DLA.
Then I took him to McDs for breakfast because it’s pretty shit having to sit and tell someone all the things you’re rubbish at.
Off out on a job now but had a half shift drop in for this afternoon which means I can work from home.

Canshopwillshop · 25/01/2019 11:09

Glad you are out of hossie Zoflora. Take it easy and get plenty of rest.

NC4Now - I’m pleased you are having a better day and your DS2 went to school.

Frouby - well done on 4 days (what Prosecco?)

Cotton sock - don’t beat yourself up, just try and leave a little more in the bottle next time. Some days we can, some days we can’t.

Hi Rightway - sorry I’m quite new here so don’t know what you are referring to but it sounds like you’ve had a rough time Flowers

I won’t be dry this weekend but aiming to drink a little less than last weekend.

Hi to everyone else I’ve not name-checked. You are all a lovely lot and I’m very pleased I’ve found you (and no, I’m not drunk 😅).

Dionysa · 25/01/2019 12:33

Glad you have been released, Zoflora, but sorry you are going to have to return Flowers.

Glad your day hasn't been too bad so far, NC4. McDs a v good idea! Fingers crossed that you do get a PIP award. I still get a small bit of funding for DS, and every bit makes quite some difference (esp. as I don't qualify for any other benefits/tax credits etc at all, bar child benefit - but am still completely skint).

waterandlemonjuice · 25/01/2019 13:36

Wow, 28 days is amazing

Glad you've been let out Zoflora

Frouby, here, have a shovel 😂

I really want wine, really do. But I’ve already claimed the teacup on my dry January app so I’m going to get into bed at 5pm instead and watch telly. Today is day 24 and I’m definitely drinking on the 31st so I just need to stick it out another 5 days. Don’t want to though!!

Had various annoying things happen this week, nothing terrible just irritating. Wine won’t make them any less irritating though, I know

NC4Now · 25/01/2019 15:18

I wish I hadn’t had wine last night because I want some tonight (Fri-yay!)
I overdid it on WW points though, so unless I run a marathon (unlikely) I can’t have any.
I didn’t think that one through...

longestlurkerever · 25/01/2019 15:31

Right I am going to have some wine tonight and attempt moderation from here on. Wish me luck!

Zoflora so sorry, I think I missed that you were in hospital - poor you! I am glad you are getting out. Good luck with the low fat diet. My dh has to have very low fat because of his pancreas so by proxy so do I but somehow it has not translated into weight loss. Probably because I get to cheat every time his back is turned.

Glad you had an OK time at the appointment NC4. I've had a day off too. In fact it has been lovely. I went for a swim and it turns out the outdoor pool is open, and is heated! It was brilliant. Then I had lunch with some mum-friends from school. Dd1 is at fencing club and dd2 is being dropped back after forest school so I still have time to put my feet up with a coffee. Life is not so bad, especially now I have ditched dry Jan!

Canshopwillshop · 25/01/2019 16:04

Sounds like a lovely day Longest. Enjoy your wine tonight and good luck with moderating.

Frouby · 25/01/2019 16:40

Well. I have pinot in the fridge. And currently enjoying a friday beer. It tastes very, very good.

I bought some Molecules for ds this morning. Well one for his friends birthday and one for ds as they were reduced from £20 to £5. That mum is going to hate me. I hate me. They are like little sticky polystyrene balls that you build like molecules I suppose. Fucking thousands of the sticky little bally bastards. Sorry Williams mum. Think I am going to warn her.

Dd and dh now plotting to go out for a curry. Not happening. Am having a shower, getting my pjs on and Not Going Out.

And DH has worked out that there is duran fucking duran on alexa. Everytime I leave the room I come back into some 80's pop. Either duran duran or Japan. Fuck sake and fml.

And dds mate stopping tonight. Shes getting dropped off after shes had her nails done. She's 14 or 15. I am doing well if I remember to brush my hair in a morning.

Ds also loves her, so I will spend all night extracting him from dds room with bribery and threats. Probably some begging.

I think I will be opening wine very soon. Lager just isn't strong enough to deal with my life.

OP posts:
Dionysa · 25/01/2019 18:24

I am going to try moderating with gin, as I have spent 3 hours in a traffic jam this afternoon, just so that I can buy something that DD needs, like, now, this minute, or her life will, like, be over. Especially as she also has a friend coming round (who will presumably also be on her way once she has done her nails Grin).

I have yet to buy anything to eat, as that felt like too much on top of the traffic jam.

Laughing at the Molecules, Frouby.

Longest, wow to open air pool!!

NC4Now · 25/01/2019 18:44

Longest that sounds lovely. Is it a hot tub or a pool you can swim in? My gym has an outdoor hot tub which is lovely when it’s cold but the water’s hot.

Dion bloody teenagers! My two are tag teaming at their dads at the moment. I’ve got DS2 home this weekend, so I’m doing nachos and we’ll probably binge S2 of Stranger Things.

I think we’re all having a tipple this evening. I’ve just picked up a couple of lagers. Enjoy everyone!

Anglaise1 · 25/01/2019 18:50

Zoflora good luck with the low fat diet and operation, I hope you aren't in too much pain.
Frouby you deserve the Pinot. Enjoy. Especially with 2 teenage girls in the house. Who has time to have their nails done??
Dion LOL to moderating with gin. The last time I drank gin I was 16 and threw up horribly. I can't drink spirits at all. I hope DD appreciates your effort!
Longest well one on such a long AF stretch, I'm sure you will find moderating easy. Good luck and enjoy your wine tonight.
NC4 If I didn't run 60 miles a week I'd be the size of a house with everything I eat. If I could cut out chocolate I'd probably only have to run half that.
Water Am In Awe of your AF stretch, I don't think I could.
3 nights AF this week so not too bad. wet tonight, DP not here so going to spend a nice evening with the kids watching English TV or a film. In English, so a treat.

longestlurkerever · 25/01/2019 18:50

It's a real pool you swim in -50m long. It's my favourite thing in the summer but they only invested in proper heating last year and this was my first winter dip. It's not hot tub temp bit it wasn't freezing. I stayed in 30 mins and came out feeling good.

Good luck to you with teen sleepovers! Happy Burns' night

longestlurkerever · 25/01/2019 18:57

Frouby i have not seen molecules but if they're anything like aquabeads you might have made an enemy of William"s mum. My friend bought Anna some and didn't include a pen thing or tell me that such a thing existed. Am still bitter.

What's everyone up to this weekend? I have basically no plans. Might take the kids swimming again, and maybe to athletics club if it's not foul. It's a drop in thing at the athletics track and I like it on a sunny wintery day but if it's damp it's grim. Sometimes we do cheapo cinema too so may see what's on. We have a penguin-shaped spy home from nursery for the weekend so have to take photos of ourselves doing wholesome things pretending to be a proper family. Gave already baked banana cupcakes with dd2.

NC4Now · 25/01/2019 19:19

Oh god, the class teddy 🤣

Frouby · 25/01/2019 19:29

longest they are worse than aqua beads. I feel really bad because shes a lovely mum and doesn't deserve that shit on a birthday weekend. But they looked really innocent. I thought they would be like big balls of moon sand and a couple of little bags full, but there is millions of the fuckers.

I am going to apologise and grovel madly. Fuck sake. I am going to be known as TwatMum.

Tomorrow we have a birthday party, then no plans. Have had 3 cans and slowly sipping a glass of wine, have ordered tea for 8pm so won't drink much more. So will have some wine to finish and that's as much as I know.

Maybe some allotmenting on sunday, planning on cleaning the fridge at some point, dunno what else.

Am jealous of your pool. I love swimming, but an indoor council pool is as good as it gets here. I really ought to start going a couple of nights a week. But I have lovely blonde hi and lo lights in atm and don't want green hair.

That's definitely up there with shittest excuse ever for not exercising. Need to catch my ndn about a local boogie bounce class and us going once a week. Wasn't sure though when dd declared we would die doing it though after her PE class did it a few months ago. 😂😂😂

Yes it's all high tech now though. I upload the photos to her learning log. So there's no book of increasingly competitive other parent photos to compare myself to!
