New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

Hats off to you Zoflora!

waterandlemonjuice · 21/01/2019 23:57

Anglaise, who doesn’t want to hop over the fence for some cock?! 😂 glad dp has come to his senses

Flossie, liking the island fund idea and NC4, I’ll join you in India too

Zoflora, omg at sink crystals, how annoying

Well done frouby and Dionysa. 🙂

waterandlemonjuice · 22/01/2019 00:00

longestlurker I like hearing what you’ve learned, that’s where I want to be, moderating.

Today is day 20 in a row AF - really wanted wine tonight but didn’t

waterandlemonjuice · 22/01/2019 00:03

Actually as it’s past midnight my app tells me today, Tuesday is day 21 AF, hurrah! Plan drinking wine on the 31st.

Dionysa · 22/01/2019 08:42

Thanks for the support and encouragement, ladies. One night is hardly on a par with what some of you are managing, but (as we all know) one night is better than no nights.

Longest, very brave of you to go back to school Grin. Rather you than me! I was interested to read your thoughts about AF. You describe exactly what I want - namely to be AF all the time, but to be able to enjoy a drink with friends and have the nice fuzzy feeling. But not every night, and not just out of bad habit.

Good luck with your four nights, Anglaise. It's much harder not to drink if you're with someone with whom you enjoy sharing a bottle.

Zoflora, I hope your sink is now sorted!!

NC4Now · 22/01/2019 08:55

Yes that’s what I’m aiming for too. I achieved it last week staying AF through the week then having a few drinks Friday and home by midnight.
Messed up on Sunday but probably thanks to this group feel I can pick myself up and start again.
If I’ve done it once, I can do it again.

Posterbook · 22/01/2019 10:00

Just catching up in here. Love how upbeat everyone is, despite dealing with some real sh*te.
I ballsed up dry Jan but keeping it in perspective. Iv got my fourth bug since sodding NYE, this one is a real stonker. Had to cancel my (dry) weekend plans away to visit friends and ended up working at home through sheer boredom. DH offered us a glass of my favourite on Sunday and I went with it as I was fed up.
The daft thing is, it wasn't worth it at all - it temporarily took my mind off feeling like shit, but given I was ill I didn't feel great from it either. Had 3 small drinks so between 5-6units, after a dry streak was enough to make me feel tipsy but it was a 'meh' tipsy. I've got no sense of smell so it didn't even taste naice. I suppose it's good motivation to carry on with the dry days, but I do feel like I wasted a wet one!

Canshopwillshop · 22/01/2019 10:48

Well done waterandlemonjuice, longest and everyone else who has managed to stick to Dry January.

For those of us who are trying to cut down, let’s keep strong. Every AF day is an achievement. Just by posting on here means we are more mindful of our drinking habits and that’s a great start.

Hi Flossie - hope your DD is ok. I’m also in for the desert island as long as I don’t have to wear a bikini as that would be enough to drive you all to drink!

I’m on day 2 of my 3 day AF target.

Frouby · 22/01/2019 11:03

I'll come to the desert island. Will be bring gin and beer and wine and my kindle.

Having a day off work to clean this shit tip of a house. I shouldn't have to but it really fucks me off when it's a mess. Just done the floors and having a coffee waiting for them to dry, then doing upstairs. Leaving the bathroom for dd though, she was supposed to do it last night but forgot so tough shit, sugar tits it's still waiting for you!

Got dds docs appt later to discuss her Reynards symptoms. I don't think it's anything serious but need to get it checked out as it is circulatory after all.

Then hopefully nipping to my cousins for a coffee before afternoon school run, go to docs then Tescos. Fml.

Frouby · 22/01/2019 11:04

Forgot to say well done Dion and other dryers. Am AF tonight I think. Going to pick some more becks blue up from tescos. They do take the edge off a bit.

OP posts:
Canshopwillshop · 22/01/2019 11:10

Frouby - Becks Blue and AF wine are definitely helping me on my dry days. Hope your DD gets on ok at Dr’s.

Flossie44 · 22/01/2019 11:34

Frouby - hope doc goes ok x

longestlurkerever · 22/01/2019 12:24

Thanks! I have somc found out the school was on educating the east end so may have to check that out and see if I was talking to any celebs!

Dd1's school is closed due to a burst water main so I suddenly have 2 7 year old whirlwinds gatecrashing my easy day with dd2. In some ways quite nice to have some bonus time with dd1 but the noise and squabbles make me want to hide. Am also hoping it's just today as I really need to work tomorrow. Half her class have gone on educational visit to the museum to make up for lost education whereas I'd already promised the trampoline park and ice cream parlour. Clearly am soft touch.

Just ate haggis on toast that was meant for woodcraft folk (sober) ceilidh, oops. Was nice though!

Well done on the house cleaning Frouby. Mine is a constant state of chaos. It's a big standard London Victorian terrace which looks dinky on the outside but actually has four floors so it's like living in a lighthouse. Cleaning it exhausts me!

Good luck to all with medical appointments, and particular hugs to Flossie. .x

longestlurkerever · 22/01/2019 12:25

Bog standard that was supposed to say

NC4Now · 22/01/2019 14:11

I've got DS2 at home today. He was up in the night with a sore throat and temperature. I had to go out on a job this morning, came back at lunch to him looking ropey on the sofa.
Gave him Calpol... Ta daaa!!! Bright as a button.
Magic stuff, isn't it?

I also need to clean my shit tip of a house. I'm considering paying someone to iron my duvet cover. It's high thread count cotton and really creases up.
I don't normally bother - life's too short to iron bedding, and it seems awfully frivolous, but it's cheaper than the bottle of wine I'm not having tonight.

Zofloramummy · 22/01/2019 15:14

There must be something in the air, I’m just back from A&E after DD walked into a telephone exchange box on a school trip. She’s bumped her head, split her lip and feels sick. A&E are happy she isn’t concussed and advice a quiet afternoon and Calpol!

Zofloramummy · 22/01/2019 15:14

I also weirdly am about to iron my duvet cover! Absolutely hate doing them!

Dionysa · 22/01/2019 17:13

God, it's duvet day (and not in a good way). I ironed mine this afternoon. Now waiting for one of the DC to be off school. Ugh.

Canshop, let's hand-hold for Day 2...

Canshopwillshop · 22/01/2019 17:36

Hand-holding here Dionysa. We’ve got this.

Frouby · 22/01/2019 18:00

I absolutely don't iron bedding. Fuck.That.Shit.

Would rather sleep in crumpled bedding and do 😂😂😂.

Dds docs appt went fine, probably Reynards, will do blood tests if we want but won't change anything. Am not to worry about funny colours because her heart, pulse and bp fine.

Then went to Tescos for a few bits with both dcs. Obviously turned into a £60 shop. Ffs. And got a pizza mealdeal thing because dd wanted it. £10 for a huge pizza, 2 garlic breads, 3 garlic mayos and 4 coors light. Only coors light not actually that light at 4% abv. But after going round tescos with 2 dcs I fucking need them.

Bought some AF Budweiser for tomorrow though so will report back.

OP posts:
NC4Now · 22/01/2019 19:08

I am also a crumpled bedding sleeper. Not this time though. For £3 I can have it ironed beautifully!

Considering I’m getting into bed sober these days, it’s a little treat. Just need to rearrange my floordrobe and my bedroom will be an oasis of zen and tranquility.

Hope DD feels better soon Zoflora. Enjoy the Coors Frouby.

Dion, how’s tonight shaping up?

Flossie44 · 22/01/2019 19:36

Ironing duvets?! Jeeeeeeeez no!!!!!

Hey well done Dion and canshop..you really can do this!!

Frouby - if there’s anything that drives me to drink, it’s walking round a supermarket with dc in tow!! Not only does the food shop double in price..I get home and have no meals as such..instead I have countless packets of crap!!

Zoflora - how’s dd?

Waiting for dh to get home from parents eve with dd1. Well actually chowing gcse options evening. Hate those. Always sent dh to them with ds too!! I’ve been racing around so told him to meet me at dd’s school and she went in with him. Now I’m home, showered, prepared dinner for dh and I for when he finally returns. Poured myself an inch of wine so that I have the feel of the chilled glass in my hand. Think that’s half the thing for me. It’s a comfort to hold the glass!!
Trying so hard not to have anymore til he gets home tho!! Moderating!! Can’t think of af yet still. Unfortunately still in fuck it mode here!!

Zofloramummy · 22/01/2019 20:13

Dd is ok, she keeps asking questions like can you die from hitting your head? What does dizzy feel like? She’s a drama llama 😆.

Still I’m letting her sleep with me tonight, mainly because of the nausea and wobbly legs this afternoon. She seems fine now. We have spent the afternoon dressing lol dolls (wtf is it with kids and lol? And why are they so expensive??) and watching a movie. Which is all I’ve felt like doing because I’ve just started my period for the second time in 2 weeks Confused. AF tonight though.

longestlurkerever · 22/01/2019 20:15

I don't really iron anything unless i am going to a wedding. Feel scummy now! Survived chaotic ceilidh in charge of 20 6-9 year olds. Bloody need a stuff scotch never mind anything else. Will try and be AF buy know DH has had a shit day too and if he suggests breaking dry Jan I will totally cave!
Found out a bit more about horrible Brexit related crisis job. Is actually more interesting and less grim than I thought it was going to be bit sounds ridiculously hard and potentially involving lots of foreign travel. Not sure how I am going to manage tbh but contractually I can't really say no.

longestlurkerever · 22/01/2019 20:17

Glad DDs are ok Zoflora and Frouby. Dd1 got concussion once falling down one of our many sets of stairs to the kitchen. Was horrible.

Both my DDs like lol but I am too mean. Santa brought them one each. There's not much to them!
