Alcohol support
Less wets, more dry, sometimes damp. We are tryers to be dryers. Thread 3!
Frouby · 20/09/2018 06:48
New thread for those wanting to reduce alcohol. Always supportive and friendly. No judgements, just support to get to where we feel comfortable with our relationship with alcohol. All welcome.
Am a bit rubbish with clicky links but there are previous threads.
Frouby · 20/09/2018 10:49
Right am here.
Dry not going too well but am shit hot at moderating.
Mon 1/2 bottle of wine, tues dry, wed 2 x 440ml can of lager. Sunday was dry too. So not a horrendous week.
Hopefully dry tonight then wet tomorrow.
Auntie has her pre op today and her first op on Tuesday. They are removing the most active of the cancers. It's a big operation and she has vascular issues as well so ots a worry. Saturday night we are having the boxing on so having a bit of a do. Our lovely friends are coming over, my cousin and her wife, auntie and my mam. So will be nice to have a bit of a get together. Making curries to feed anyone, well me and my friend are. Dd and cousins wife are both veggies so making a mild veggie curry, friend is making a lamb madras, cousin bringing dessert and I am doing the sides.
Will be chaos but a good chaos I hope.
Oh and on tuesday my sister is having an operation to remove a fatty lump from her breast. Day surgery but a general anaesthetic so more stress and drama. Sigh. It's a wonder I am not swimming around in a vat of wine.
CottonSock · 20/09/2018 13:14
Marking place.
Dry Mon to weds. Hopefully tonight.. very knackered so hear wine calling..try not to think about it, have none in house and so just need to walk past shops home..won't want to go back out as weather awful
Dionysa · 20/09/2018 17:56
On my way to deposit DD at gymnastics, but will be back. Dry ATM, obviously, but it will not stay this way. FML several times over.
WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 20/09/2018 18:19
Hi all,
Mind if I join you all
Trying really hard st the mo to get my nightly drinking under control
Managed 3 dry nights since Sunday. Dh back (world away) last night so had a few and ds is off school today with a vomiting bug (although bouncing off the walls since midday) donive crumbled and am nearing drink number 2.
Really need this to stop so I can feel a bit healthier
frouby sounds like you have more than a lot on your plate at the moment. Hope things go ok
Frouby · 20/09/2018 19:00
Welcome winner, I would be reaching for the wine too! We are all in a similar place on here, trying to reduce the wet nights and moderate on drinking nights.
Af here tonight! I am starting to feel a bit slimmer, reducing alcohol and the school run on foot is finally paying off. Haven't lost many lbs but feel slimmer. Legs are a bit less flabby, and tummy gone down. Have had skinny jeans on today and didn't feel the urge to rip them off and stick fat lass leggings on by 11am so all good.
Going to wash the pots, stick ds in bed, have a nice bath and go up early to read for a couple of hours.
WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 20/09/2018 19:17
Well my flabby belly and legs are very very good motivation to get this under control
Enjoy your evening
IHeartMarmiteToast · 20/09/2018 19:26
Also new here. I've been lurking while taking it in that I'm not alone in wanting to reduce not cut out! Monday, Tuesday dry, Wednesday had a bottle of wine. Tonight will be dry but Friday Saturday won't be. Also trying to slim and I think the booze is really holding me back ...
Anglaise1 · 20/09/2018 19:34
Welcome Iheart and winner
Flossie any news on your DD and school?
Frouby hope all went well with your Aunt's pre op today.
Dion hope you are OK and DP is behaving himself
Day 4 AF today, back to normal this week. Will proably have a damp weekend, definitely a beer on Saturday afternoon after my 25km trail race. Possibly to celebrate a podium as there aren't usually many other women who do it. Hopefully the weather will be OK even if temperatures will be well down on today.
waterandlemonjuice · 20/09/2018 20:55
Helllloooooo!!! Thanks for new thread

waterandlemonjuice · 20/09/2018 20:57

Flossie44 · 21/09/2018 20:01
Last night got trashed. Had an awful day. Dd1 home with chest inf and she deffo kills things!! Dd2 home with her own issues going on!! Dh was away so had couple neighbours over ‘for a bottle’ 3.5bottles later they left!! And if I’m honest I wasn’t the biggest drinker there so kinda happy about that!! However woke feeling bloody awful!! Think for me it was more the rich snacks and baked Camembert and salamis that I dished out!! I don’t think I drunk anymore than a bottle and that’s easy for me normally!!
Anyway tonight was determined not to drink. Dh is moaning as he likes to have a drink with me on a Friday eve, end of week etc. So I’m here cooking steak and a nice pepper sauce..and still haven’t touched a drop of vino!! Not sure how long I can stay off it tho. But least I didn’t open it at 6pm!!
Happy weekend everyone x
Flossie44 · 21/09/2018 20:02
Anglais - good luck in your race!! You will deffo b stood on the podium!! Go girl!!
Frouby · 22/09/2018 07:47
Morning all
Flossie food like that makes me feel rough too. And even 2 glasses of wine makes me feel rough.
dion
More bad news yesterday. My uncle died on thursday. He has been poorly for a long time so wasn't unexpected. I don't know him particularly well, there was a big family fall out years ago so never got to know him as a child as he moved away. But he was still in touch with my mam and aunties and they have been close over the last few years so they are understandably very upset. And it's hard because he died of lung cancer which is what my auntie has and is being operated on for on Tuesday.
My mum has found it really hard bless her.
Tonight will be wet. We are having the boxing on and some friends and my cousin round. Have a curry and all the sides to make today, plus clean the house. So super busy. Curry is a right faff, 4 stages to the base involving blending and skimming and all sorts. Should have just said we would order in. Sigh.
Dionysa · 22/09/2018 20:46
Anglaise, how did it go this afternoon?
Frouby, I'm so sorry to hear your news - and all the more so, given the context of your auntie. You should probably have a medal for curry-making, too. You're not wrong about it being a faff.
Flossie, did you stay strong last night? And how are your DDs?
I have just poured a second very large glass of wine. This week has been a write-off. A catalogue of horrible things, culminating last night with job loss and DD saying that she hates herself and wants to die.
I told DP that if he wants to deliver bad news to me, this is the moment to do it.
FML several times over.
Anglaise1 · 22/09/2018 21:06
Dion so sorry about your week 🙁 I understand why you are on your second glass. Your poor DD too, you are only as happy as your most miserable child so it isn't easy
I was third in my race, I'm happy with that as I was 9mins faster over the 25km than last year so a great improvement since I started moderating!
I had a beer after the race and 2 glasses of wine, FM is out with his ex tonight at a party for her brother. He promised he would go with her before finishing things. I'm not happy about it of course.
Frouby so sorry about the loss of your uncle and I hope the curry was good
Anglaise1 · 22/09/2018 21:08
Flossie did you manage to stay AF last night? Are you still managing to find time to run a little?
Dionysa · 22/09/2018 21:37
Anglaise, thank you for the flowers and kind (and very wise) words. I love your photos. And 9 mins faster than last year over the same distance is fantastic.
I would be struggling with FM being out with his ex tonight. I can see why he doesn't want to renege on his promise to go with her, though that doesn't make it any better for you.
Frouby · 23/09/2018 08:27
Ohhh Dion what a bloody shitty time you are having atm. I would be absolutely diving head first into the gin. for you my love.
Anglaise well done on the race, you look amazing! My new passport came the other day. I thought I looked ok on the photo but I don't. I look old and wrinkly and flabby. Sigh.
Had a fantastic night last night tho. My curry was gorgeous and worth the faff. Just like a proper takeaway curry. My friends and cousin were good company and I had a lovely time. Moderated too. 4 bottles of Budweiser and 2 g and ts all night. Quite impressed with myself.
DH didn't moderate and is still slightly pissed I think
Dionysa · 23/09/2018 19:15
Well, guess what. Some sod has tried to break into my car. I normally leave it on the drive, but was being lazy and left it on the road last night, for the first time in about 10 years. All the windows have been smashed. I feel like putting a poster outside the house, saying: "Bring it on". Fortunately a nice neighbour has just invited me over for consolation. She is teetotal, but that might be a good thing.
Thank you, Frouby, for the . Sorry to say I have resorted to
. FML a gazillion times over now. Well done on your moderating - and I want you to invite me for curry!!!!!
Flossie44 · 23/09/2018 22:19
Oh bloody hell dion!!!!!!!! I just don’t know what to say!! I can’t believe what a crap time you’re having currently. I’m so so sorry your for more shit to deal with. Sending you mahoosive hugs and love..and a gallon of gin!! You poor love. Xx
Flossie44 · 23/09/2018 22:22
Anglais..you looks so gorgeous..how do you do it!!
Frouby - so glad last night went well. Curry sounds lush!! You deserved a nice eve.
So I stayed strong Friday and AF!! Dh even practically begged me to join him in a drink to which I refused!! Last night I drink a bottle of wine. Tonight we took dd’s out to dinner and I offered to drive so that I wouldn’t drink. I came home and poured a large glass. No more. So I’m pretty chuffed with my moderation.
Anglaise1 · 24/09/2018 06:38
Dion so sorry about your car, you really don't need that as well at the moment. Even more .
Frouby Well done that is a seriously moderated weekend! At nearly 53 I've never been fitter in my life but cutting down on drink definitely helped - I dropped 6kgs almost immediately even though I wasn't overweight and that helps with running faster.
I had a serious wobble last night, had no news at all from FM following his night out with his ex (French parties go on till morning and there is often a 'retour' at midday on the Sunday), I was convinced he had decided to go back with her. I had 2/3 of a bottle of wine left and at 7pm I started drinking it and nearly finished it but just couldn't but I went over my normal limit. At 8.30pm he phoned to say that he had finished with her completely, he told her he has someone else and moved her things out of his apartment. She had hoped there would be a reconciliation before and hadn't believed him (she is very beautiful and usually does the finishing in relationships.)
