Where is your tumble dryer (if you have one)? Exciting thread of the day warning!

Just that really. We currently have a vented one in the garage but the garage is at the bottom of the garden and it's a pain in the arse (usually use the dryer because the weather is bad so don't want to be trekking backwards and forwards). Vented dryer was a second hand one off FB marketplace several years ago and it is no longer working as it should - needs a few goes to get things dry - so I'm considering a new one. I'd like a condenser in the house but we are a bit tight on space. There is a corner in the kitchen that might just do it but I'm not sure if it will look a bit weird.

small one in a kitchen cupboard. i dont fully tumble things to dry though. i tend do do fifteen minutes and then onto an airer or radiator if they are on. so i only need the smaller size machine.

Cookingandfoldingthings · 24/10/2026 08:22

Utility room.
Not plumbed in as that was too complex / expensive; it has a tank which needs emptying into the nearby sink every few loads.
I agree with the high level of excitement of this thread; thank you OP!

Utility, not plumbed in, though if we get a new one it’ll be easy to plumb it it in. Had it 17 year.

SnowflakesandSlippers · 24/10/2026 08:24

Our boot room (back hall with a sink really) has a tiny utility room/cupboard so it is in there with the washing machine and the boiler.

pulpJarvis · 24/10/2026 08:25

It’ll be fine in the kitchen, new ones are much quieter these days.

24Dogcuddler · 24/10/2026 08:25

In the shed! Had a utility room before we downsized. Tried a washer drier in the kitchen here when we did the kitchen but it’s rubbish at drying.
We also have a dehumidifier in the spare room and that works well for drying things on maidens so we mainly use the drier for bedding and towels ( when we can’t dry outdoors)

PaintMeLikeYourFrenchGulls · 24/10/2026 08:29

In the utility, on top of the washing machine. It’s not plumbed in. It is a heap pump one, with a container that catches the water, so it needs emptying every load.

Hamsara · 24/10/2026 08:31

Places I've seen them - under the stairs, in a decommissioned airing cupboard, in the guest room moonlighting as a bedside table.

I think heat pumps are a better bet than condensers these days. They are so much cheaper to run. Ours dries a load cheaper than our heated airer does.

vjvhj · 24/10/2026 08:32

In the utility which is essentially a tiny lean-to next to the kitchen. It only fits in the washing machine and tumble dryer

CBAwithallthethings · 24/10/2026 08:32

Same garage so have to run in and out which is a pain but we have no alternative

PrincessOfPreschool · 24/10/2026 08:32

Garage

justsayingthat · 24/10/2026 08:33

I have a tumble dryer but recently bought a dehumidifier… game changer! It dries a full clothes airer in a couple of hours.

ravenclaworslytherin · 24/10/2026 08:34

In our small utility room on top of the washing machine. It is a condenser one which collects the water in a container in the door. Only needs emptying after about four/five loads

Nincompoo · 24/10/2026 08:34

Futility room.

MaeshoweDragon · 24/10/2026 08:36

Vented one in the garage.
Keeps the noise and moisture away from the house. Also made us put in a decent path... which goes past the washing line, so I hang stuff up if conditions are right.
Because it is vented, stuff gets dry quickly.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 24/10/2026 08:37

In the garage of doom, a condenser one.

fedupandtired1 · 24/10/2026 08:37

Mines in the kitchen it’s very quiet I try not to use it often I’ll line dry or use clothes airer then finish off if still damp

mommybear1 · 24/10/2026 08:37

Utility room we have a condenser love it

Futility room.

Oh I call it the futility room, too!! 😂
It’s futile to hope the washing will ever end, or that the room will ever be tidy and organised!

If I didn’t have a futility room I’d squeeze a tumble drier somewhere: garage, shed, or stacked on top of washer.

DoobyScooo · 24/10/2026 08:40

Probably not practical for most but I have upstairs utility cupboard with washer/dryer and another smaller dryer on top.

FirmSnake · 24/10/2026 08:41

In the conservatory. Not ideal because it struggles in the cold but we haven't got anywhere else to put it. It is a condenser, but old noisy and steamy.
I use a swanky new one at work that is so quick and quiet I'd have it in my bedroom.

Does anyone have one in their kitchen which they’ve done something fancy with to make it look nice?

We have a kitchen with all integrated appliances and I just think a tumble dryer plonked next to it would look odd. It would also be quite close to our kitchen table. I’m wondering if anyone has found a way to make them look even slightly less incongruous. I don’t want to spend money on extending the kitchen worktop and cupboards etc - just hoping for a cheapish fix!

Silverbirchleaf · 24/10/2026 08:51

Garage. Also have a dehumidifier.

This is my issue too.

Utility room. It’s a heat pump condenser one which is plumbed in.
